Don't know what the situation is for you but I have a very high perscription as well, my pediatric optometrist wrote a recommendation for me several years ago stating that contact lesnses we're actually a medical benefit for me rather than a cosmetic one considering that they are the most feasible way to get the lenses as close to my eye as possible. I've been getting full coverage on my contacts ever since and it's a good thing because they're custom and very expensive!
Thanks for this video! I’m -10.25/-10.50 and have always loved other people’s glasses except my own because I felt my Rx was embarrassing and that I was a blind bat. I’ve been wearing contacts since I was 10, I’m 30 now and have been trying to get more comfortable wearing my glasses in public (both out of laziness and because I work nights) to give my eyes more breathing time. I was definitely looking into WP for glasses because my 2yr old pair was well over $400 (ouch!) Glad to have found other “freaks” like myself :)
Thank you! I have a -7 contact rx and don’t know my glasses number yet but it’s safe to say we are almost the same. Thanks so much for the thorough review 😬 I have to learn to embrace my thick rx. Lol
I don't have bad eyesight by my son is -14 and -15 and plays competitive basketball. He refuses to wear contacts and he has issues when buying glasses, they fog up if the glasses are large. We live in the midwest and if anyone has any suggestions so I can help it, it would be appreciated. Thank you.
What an awesome and thorough review, thanks for making this! Funny enough, we have almost exactly the same prescription (mine is just a tad stronger) and I was really on the fence trusting a startup company with my vision. But after getting quoted over 400 bucks at my eye doctor for new frames and lenses, I decided to give it a shot. Frames arrive next week hopefully I have as positive an experience as you! By the way if you’re in New York ever, check out their flagship store in Soho, it’s a great experience.
Glenn Rothwell very nice and that's funny that you have a worse prescription. I've had the glasses for a few months now and while I only wear them in the mornings and at nights, I've been pretty happy with the quality, durability and of course the price.
thanks for this. i was wondering how thick the lenses would be if i did a larger frame, cause my prescription is so high. and i was considering warby parker as well. super helpful!
Interesting. May have to try them for my next pair. Hopefully my even stronger prescription gets the same great treatment. 1.74 woah. Want. Hopefully the can do transitions with that index. I'm -16.50 and -12.00.
I couldn't get transition lenses over -14. To get them, I had to back my prescription some. Now, my distance vision is not the best, but still legal to drive. I got the dark version that changes in a car. Love that feature!!
Aw too late ..my left eye is -6 and the lenses that i ordered were so thick even i use the high index 1.74 .. i have astigmatism too..my bad is i chose the rectangular lenses :( .. hope i can figure this out or find a cheaper option for contact lenses next year
I have around -5 eyesight and I’m only 15 years old, this is very hard for me to deal with as no one else is more than -3 and it’s very frightening for me
Hi Harry! I have high myopia and astigmatism. I used to wear the Acuvue Daily Moist but learned that they stopped carrying high prescriptions because the demand for lasik surgery is greater. My prescription for contacts was -7.25 and -5.5. I started wearing glasses when I was 5 years old too, contacts at 13, and I’m 24 now! Do you recommend any particular contacts for my strong prescription? I’ve tried hard lenses before but they were too painful and I couldn’t get used to them.
Harry Campbell I’ve used the Acuvue Oasys contacts up until two years ago, but had to stop it because my eyes were producing a lot of protein and making the contacts cloudy, which is why I had to switch to Moist. I’m going to try out some Warby Parker at-home try on glasses. Thank you!
I love this video by u. It is very helpful. I am like u in that I don't want to pay a lot for glasses and don't care about name brand glasses. I have been thinking about ordering some glasses from Warby Parker for some yrs now.
I'm - 8 too and i wear glasses but now i want to try contacts (that's why i'm watching this lol). The glasses are so damn thick even if you pay more for thinning the lenses 😩 And they kinda annoy me after 10 years now (i'm only 21 😢)
How come are the glasses less thick ? I mean you've got -10 and even with 1.74 people have lenses sticking out their frames and there is distortion in the lens ,although little
Oh heck. Your -10 doesn't hold a candle to 19th century contact lens pioneer August Mueller, who had a -14 prescription. You can see why he was so interested in contact lenses.
It doesn’t take much nearsightedness to see as blurry as a person who is legally blind. 20/200 or a -2.50. At -10.00, you’re four times as bad, BUT the definition of legal blindness is “best corrected with glasses or contacts”. If you’re correctable to better than 20/200 with glasses or contact lenses, you’re not legally blind regardless of your prescription, whether -3.00 or -30.00.
Do you know what type of glasses your called. The type from Warby Parker. Do you think I can still send a photo of my prescription even when it expired 5 months ago? Cause I see perfectly with my prescription right now.
My frames were over 300, and I came home with glasses that distort my face....and I am pissed off. -9 and -7. I wish the optometrists assistants were better educated on what they advise bc it's so expensive. I'm so bummed, but there's a lot of good info here. Especially for VSP which I have. Hope they will let me return these atrocities so I can order somewhere more reasonable. I will also say your optometrist is legally required to give you your physical prescription. I had to go back and ask for mine, but they gave it to me. Ask in person, the first time around. It's the law.
Congratulations on your "perfect" score :-) I'm also a -10 and wear -9.0 contacts for sharper vision. I had have soft contacts (silicon hydrogel, AirOptix Night and Day) but have blurry reading vision in my right eye that the soft lens don't correct. It's sort of like an astigmatism or some or sort of high-order-aberration, even though the left eye technically has a bit higher "astigmatism". My soft contacts are easy to take care of, I basically leave them in a month at a time, which at the time I was fitted in them was miraculous. Now I'm wearing hard contacts. They are Rigid Gas Permeable (Boston ES) lens and took a couple of months to get fully use to them, because you can fell something on the eye (nothing painful). The first few days of wear I couldn't think about anything except the lens floating around. Also, the first couple of days my eyes watered, I had sensitivity to light, I couldn't focus well close up, and I couldn't drive that well because I felt like I couldn't move my eyes around with the lens on them. But they provide exceptional vision and correct the issue I had with my right eye. Every night I take them out and clean them, then pop them in first thing in the morning, and get about 16 hours of wear a day. They are even more comfortable than the soft contacts now, because the material stays perfectly crystal clean all day long, cleaner than the soft lens. And I cant feel their presence at all. At night, there is a little bit of optical flair and aberrations from lights at an angle, but it doesn't bother me. I highly recommend you be fitted in Rigid Gas Permeable Lens IF you aren't being fully corrected by your soft contacts. Anyhow, after the adaption period, and figuring how to keep the RGP lens properly cleaned every day, I can definitely say they are superior not just in vision to my soft contacts, but also in comfort to, because they always feel like Brand New lens on my eyes, and they don't get irritated with solutions. I watched this video because I need a pair of night time glasses and I actually don't have a pair because I was scarred of inch thick coke bottle glasses. So I would go to bed nearly blind without my contacts, and I'd oversleep because I couldnt see the clock to get up at the proper time. :-) Thanks for the great video! I'm going to order a pair of tiny round glasses with 1.74 high index lens, and will definitely be wearing my hard RGP contacts every hour I can.
Haha never thought about it like that but you're right! I actually used to have gas permeable contacts in middle school but switched to soft lenses about 15 years ago and luckily I see very well with them (20/30 ish) and they are comfortable. The only thing I'd recommend is spending at least 1 hour at the beginning and end of the day with your contacts off to give your eyes some time to breathe - this was recommended by my new optometrist and makes a lot of sense!
Thanks for tip. I started with Gas Permeable when they first came out, then switched to Soft for a couple of decades, and now back in Gas Permeable. These are much better than the ones I had twenty years ago. Then again the soft contacts made a huge leap forward in the years I wore them (silicone hydrogel material). It was actually much more difficult getting use to gas permeable the second time, because in the back of my mind I was telling myself this isn't the way a contact should feel. But then I got re-acclimated, and then I found them much better. I'm going to follow your advice (once I get my glasses). I'm in my 40s. Thanks again!
@@hgc04 i also have so much prescription, around 10 / 11 ish and my contactologys recommended the semi-rigid contact lenses. Have worked wonders, apparently they are different from gas permeable contacts... Maybe you can check them out or something :)
Many people are now getting great results from RGP Scleral contact lenses. Great vision, comfort like a soft lens ( They do not touch the cornea ) and last 1-2 years..
@@markwiygul6356 You may want to try the RGP Scleral lenses.. They are more comfortable because they do not touch the cornea and have the feel of a soft lens.
Frames are only mfr'd by about 3 companies in the US. So if you are at Pearl, JCPenney, Eyelab, Vision Works, and so on. What will really grind your gears is that the frames they charge anywhere from $100-$600 in reality only cost $30 to $100 to manufacture, and the lenses they charge $150-$300 only cost $30-$80 to grind. So I got my Warby Parker frames $95 and lenses $140 (I got high index lenses). So in total it was under $250 at Wal Mart would have cost me $450
@@captainvoluntaryistthestat3207 -17 still not insane there were people out there who have -25.0 and -30.0 there was a video with -108 diopter i don't know if that is true
What's the prescription? I don't think it's too bad though, you may be able to get lasik and if not I'm sure they'll invent a new technology to fix your eyes in 10 years or so :)
what is your prescription?? if they used low index lenses even you have low diopter it is still thick you need first to control your astigmatism if you have myopia or hyperopia the astigmatism makes your myopia or hyperopia worst , straining your eyes making you astigmatism worst therefore making your myopia and hyperopia worst it is like a cycle
Alexis Parker Hey girl, I am in the same boat. I’m curious, are you really wearing big framed glasses with the high prescription? They always say I can’t and have to choose small ones when I really wanna wear fashionable cateye glasses 😭.
Ok, I get it. Not at the same time. I tried contacts again in 2017: multifocal ones. For 10 minutes I had 20/15 vision! Afterwards, nothing but fuzzballs. Now my eyes are too bad for contacts. Ugh!
Please ask your parents to send you to a Dr. who specializes pediatric progressive myopia. I was in the same situation and started wearing hard lenses at your age to halt the progression of myopia. And it is true, stop holding games, cell phones, computers, snd books too close to your eyes- that will hasten the progression … Please get some "outdoor time" and focus on far away objects.. We are becoming an increasingly nearsighted society.. very fast.
Hey, I do recommend don’t watching videos for long period of time. Video games . Do spend time with friends outdoor. As your age, you can reduce the development.
Even in 1962, it was recommended that I wear hard contact lenses and avoid too much close work and look at distant objects. I was -4.50 at age 9, and later they were starting to do orthokeratology ( The fantastic Dr. Robert Morrison )..
I had two different powers on each of my eyes. One is -4 and the other was -6. By using the -4 I was able to take my weaker eye down to -5.25 after 1 year. I am now trying -3.75 and going all in with -4.25 on the weaker eye on my next order. I hope I can get them down gradually over the next year. I'm going to try and reduce my astigmatism too by going down by .25 cyl on both eyes! Wish me luck!
"Legally Blind" is a term used for persons who cannot see well, even when corrected with glasses or contact lenses. The parameters vary depending on the textbook. Some state that you are "legally Blind" if your vision is 20/ 70 or worse with glasses or contact lenses. It has nothing to do with vision that can be corrected to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses.
I would have liked to see more about how the company you are boasting of actually did bevel and polish and not all about insurance. I paid "insurance" for many years before going to use it and when I did the "insurance", Humana, REFUSED my -9.75 glasses to be done in anything BUT unfinished, unpolished, unbeveled, standard cheap plastic which costs abdolutly NOTHING. I'm not a fan of insurance but am a fan of HOW to get decent glasses and who to get them from. Walmart, believe it or not, USED to provide GREAT glasses that didn't look grotesque but they told me recently they just "punch" the lenses and polish so they look like disgusting coke bottle bottoms. Seems we HAVE to get things done in China to get things right. Isn't that weird?
C Lee I'm not sure what you mean, isn't this standard on all glasses to polish and bevel them? If you have bad eyes, you have to pay more, not much you can do about it.
since High Myopia isn't particularly common, Retailers don't cater to the consumer goods and services that they might want, and instead figure they will purchase whatever they Must purchase. I'm a -10 in glasses, like the fellow who posted this video. Retailers mostly figure they will make profits off of the most common customers and not worry about providing solutions that are rarely sought out. That works with everything from consumer goods, to movies, music, books, everything a consumer would want. So, be a vocal consumer, and a knowledgeable consumer about what You need and what You want. and then Don't shop at places that don't provide it. if China does provide what you the consumer want, then shop with them. Many other retailers have written us off, so it's important for them to understand we will not buy their products unless they provide the consumer goods we want. I'm ordering a pair of glasses from China :-)
Harry Campbell Hi, Harry! Yes...I pay a LOT more and have three pair of glasses at a cost of $1,800 that I'd not be seen dead in as lenses are so poorly done. My only option is to reorder from China and, from what I've learned from some Indian persons I work with, they also can make beautiful glasses well at a scant fraction of what greedy, lazy U.S. sources offer.
Mark Wiygul I agree, Mark. I did get one great pair from China except the frame is a bit uncomfortable but the glasses are certainly superior to U.S. offerings I work with a lot of Indian persons who I couldn't help but notice, have beautiful glasses with very well done/finished lenses...one person let me try hers on and the prescription must be darn close to mine as visual acuity was quite close. The lenses were thin and glasses absolutely beautiful. She said they were $30 USD in her country. Thank you so much for your response! I don't feel so much of a lost lamb now 🐑 C
@@markwiygul6356 Surprise !!! high myopia is becoming much more common. Computer games, cell phones, people not going outside and gaining distance vision. A -10.00 is not that uncommon. We are now seeing people with prescriptions of -30.00 and higher.

With someone with high prescription see 20/20 vision when they wear the thick glasses for a blind person
-3.5 can read text size 12 on 8.5x11 from 3ft accurately.
That's rather mild actually
@@DNBursky Very true.. That is "Textbook Mild Myopia"… Actually rather average..
So in total it was under $250 at Wal Mart would have cost me $450
I’m -17 and thinking about the glass 1.90
That's insane. -17 glasses means I die if I take them off.
I know it’s crazy!
Same
@@captainvoluntaryistthestat3207
-17 still not insane
there were people out there who have -25.0 and -30.0
there was a video with -108 diopter i don't know if that is true
@@anthonybondoc9391
What? No way. I wanna see the glasses they wear. They should wear like a goggle.
Dude what kind of frames should a person with thick glasses choose to make the thickness less noticeable
Musa Siddique dude did you watch the video? Round ones..
My left eye 👁 is 14.0 and right 👁 is 19.0 😔 Warby Parker couldn’t fill my prescription cause they only go up to 18.0 😔
Wtf how did u fuck up your eyes so bad
Love this video!
Where do you order your contacts?
I’m 17 with -10 in both eyes
I have -8,5 right and -10,5 left
I have -13.5 left and -11 right and I’m 15 years old 😭
Great video. Thanks!
My lenses are about 1,5cm and I'm 14 I have astigmatism is this bad? 😂
What's the prescription? I don't think it's too bad though, you may be able to get lasik and if not I'm sure they'll invent a new technology to fix your eyes in 10 years or so :)
what is your prescription?? if they used low index lenses even you have low diopter it is still thick
you need first to control your astigmatism
if you have myopia or hyperopia the astigmatism makes your myopia or hyperopia worst , straining your eyes making you astigmatism worst therefore making your myopia and hyperopia worst it is like a cycle
-12.75 and -14.50 Which would be fine if my astigmatism wasn’t so damn bad making life worse! 😩
Alexis Parker Hey girl, I am in the same boat. I’m curious, are you really wearing big framed glasses with the high prescription? They always say I can’t and have to choose small ones when I really wanna wear fashionable cateye glasses 😭.
-14 here with astigmatism and progressives. So, you wear contacts along with glasses??
Ok, I get it. Not at the same time. I tried contacts again in 2017: multifocal ones. For 10 minutes I had 20/15 vision! Afterwards, nothing but fuzzballs. Now my eyes are too bad for contacts. Ugh!
good work. keep it up
I really like those frames. What’s the name of those frames?

I am 9 and I have -5 prescription glasses
Advice, don't play no video games
Deb Nandi I had -6
Please ask your parents to send you to a Dr. who specializes pediatric progressive myopia. I was in the same situation and started wearing hard lenses at your age to halt the progression of myopia. And it is true, stop holding games, cell phones, computers, snd books too close to your eyes- that will hasten the progression … Please get some "outdoor time" and focus on far away objects.. We are becoming an increasingly nearsighted society.. very fast.
Hey, I do recommend don’t watching videos for long period of time. Video games . Do spend time with friends outdoor. As your age, you can reduce the development.
I recommend wear glasses 1 diopters less than you prescription it will help reduce thickness. visian ICL is another option.
It will help ruin your eyes
I have -12 glasses, do have any eye condition.
Native722 no idea but with contacts should be fine.
did you try the bates method? Thanks
I’m close -7.75 and -8
I have the same !!!
How old where you when you stated wearing glasses? And how old are you now?
Started in first or second grade and I'm now 31.
Hi Harry -
It is tragic, but I think you could have avoided entry, if you would have gotten prevention support at age 7.
Even in 1962, it was recommended that I wear hard contact lenses and avoid too much close work and look at distant objects. I was -4.50 at age 9, and later they were starting to do orthokeratology ( The fantastic Dr. Robert Morrison )..
-7on left -16.70 on left
Those glasses are very well made...
What is the thinnest high index lenses bro
mohaiz cade 1.74
Harry Campbell have you ever feel embarrased about you glasses do people bully you saying stsff
mohaiz cade I wear contacts when I leave the house. Only wear glasses at home :)
there is 1.9
1.7 and 1.9 are thinner than 1.74 ....
What's your prescription?
For contacts, I'm -8.50 and -9.00. And -10 for glasses :)
wow,, can't see without it's glasses and contact, did you ever lost them harry?
Never lost my glasses but once in a while I'll lose a contact and it's a pain but I usually keep a spare pair around.

1.67
@@avlogtoyoutubeaboutindia2820 You can go even higher to a 1.9...
this vid is sponsored isn't it? because general advice is not to buy glasses from online-stores if you have a high Rx
You could also buy these glasses in stores the quality of these glasses are genuinely great. I’d recommend them

No you are not legally blind I am -13 in glasses and minus 11.50 and I would not accept legally blind especially working with neuro surgical patients
I did get one great pair from China except the frame is a bit uncomfortable but the glasses are certainly superior to U.S. offerings
I work with a lot of Indian persons who I couldn't help but notice, have beautiful glasses with very well done/finished lenses...one person let me try hers on and the prescription must be darn close to mine as visual acuity was quite close. The lenses were thin and glasses absolutely beautiful. She said they were $30 USD in her country.
Thank you so much for your response! I don't feel so much of a lost lamb now 🐑

@@markwiygul6356 Surprise !!! high myopia is becoming much more common. Computer games, cell phones, people not going outside and gaining distance vision. A -10.00 is not that uncommon. We are now seeing people with prescriptions of -30.00 and higher.
