Good vid Steve. Had problems with carrier, day/night with owners complaining of loud noise waking them up in the middle of the night. All units were 3.5 ton, different customers. We went out and 0 problems. This went on and on, but it was very sporadic to say the least when they'd call. Finally, one of my guys messing with the float switch, interrupted power for a moment and there it was. Compressor running backwards. Put TD's in and no more problems. Only happening with carrier products for me. Never saw this before. All 3 last year installs.
The float switch engaging/disengaging too fast while the system is running will cause the compressor to run backwards like that. Done it a couple times
Had same problem work for Bryant dealer. Earlier scroll Bryant units had field added 24 by liquid line valve added to prevent scroll from periodically running in reverse. Also still a ? About condensate in secondary. Many possibilities. I use 3/4 fernco couplings after watching your videos. Keep up the good work. Be safe.
Looks like the scroll was running backwards. Zip tie on dual cap. Was the cap within spec? Power interruptions can make it run backwards. Weird problems.
Hey Steven, I have a new American Standard toilet where the float is actually a hinged hard plastic cup that never seems to reset after a flush. Hints, ideas about repairing it?
It won't matter if it's some place not visible . The problem can happen , because water laying in the pipe causes an air cushion that prevents the water from leaving the trap in the first place. I had twenty feet of pitch going to a trap in the crawl . Yes twenty feet of water column will push through ,but the problem is the water could not leave the first trap . Then again , who knows
+Keith on the GAP blue mighty pump is the business. beats any shop vac. if its real bad ill hit the pipe with some coil cleaner, le it sit and flush it w a hose then pump it again. works wonders everytime. especially if its underground and you cant/ dont want to run a new drain line or add a condensate pump.
Good video Steve. This is not exactly relevant to this video but I was wondering where do you get your service tags from? Online or someplace local? I'm just trying to get some ideas for possible options. Thank you, keep the videos coming!
oh the fittings and wire were rusted by the way and not changed so i think im not using them anymore. I also cannot choose a ac guy to trust. the closest i can is the guy who did a job for my father that installs payne and he does this as a side job and works for a mojor company here in louisiana. his work looked clean from what i could see.
They don't sell nitrogen in your town? The homeowner needs a blow out valve or a t-fitting on that drain line. They also need a SS2 safety switch on That coil.
These traps with clean-outs cost a bit more, but man do they pay off down the road. Rectorseal 83113 EZ 113 Trap, 3/4-Inch www.amazon.com/dp/B00BMV6QU4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_izxDzbSQN56K7
I agree with this. The Capacitor is suspect. The motor was restarted and it ran fine so to me the capacitor is going out... sometimes it works, sometimes not.
@@HousesandCars yes, the capacitor needed replacing. it was shot, or soon to be and just go ahead and grab one outta ya truck and get-r-done and get the hell outta there.
what 4 ton unit sshould i buy please put a end to my missary ! I had a goodman it was a 93 and was still doing amazing until my fan went out and my wife ran the unit anyways most likley killing the compressor . Well not to mention our ac guy sent a young kid to check it out prior ro that the week before and was blowing wires on the compressor . The guy changed one fitting and not both sides so there fore that may had somthing to do with it but i will never know the truth . Anyways i have 6 ac guys all wanting to sell a diffrent brand here in louisiana . I wanted rheem which is big here but people want to sell payne or confort maker and or rudd , none have reccomended goodman which i beleieve is a good system .
Nice job and video like always ( Steven )
been using

So these air handlers have float switches in the pans?
Zachary Hookway yes. All ahu's have float switches installed in aux drain port of ahu's. Code here in s fl.
Canal Zone Kidd hey what do you mean by TDs to fix the problem?
Some sort of Diode?

Good job Steve, what size clear tube ID do you use that slips over 3/4 PVC?
firesprk I believe he has said before it's 1 ID

Hey Steve do u have any videos on 410a systems diagnosing a bad txv? I'm a new young tech interested in learning how to properly diagnose a bad valve.
Hey Steven, I have a new American Standard toilet where the float is actually a hinged hard plastic cup that never seems to reset after a flush. Hints, ideas about repairing it?
It could be the drain needs a vent after trap . Sometime the drain will not have enough pitch down stream and makes a double trap condition .
Brian Not saying you're not right, but that drain clearly has tons of pitch

So the problem was scroll running in reverse??? That can actually happen with power fluctuations?
Steve's a real working man today, next level
Why only 1 hose clamp Steve?
11:28 just put it out of its misery!! Awesome vid!!!
You gotta love scrolls. They can run in reverse and even take liquid slugs and still run fine. Try that with a recip!
Why in God's green earth would anyone thumbs down this vid? Steve walked up to a Dud and got it going.
Some times here in south Arkansas the air handler will sweat bad enough to fill the secondary pan, the humidity can be rough down here
Richard Speck is envious of Steve's forearms
Hey steve looks like that hand pump is home made out of some pvc. You think you could do a video on it one day showing how you made it?
Joshua Poche it's an off the shelf item. Here you go!.....

Fireship1 thanks man
Joshua Poche no problem!
looks like a bilge pump for a boat.

Good work Steve. I like to see odd ball problems.
How long does something like this take to troubleshoot?
I've had them where if the power goes off and then comes back on while the compressor is coming to a stop it will keep running backwards.

Good Job Steve! still love all your videos!!
Got clean that dash board Stevey,
Really good video Steve!!
Good Job Steve. I always look forward to your videos

The homeowner needs a blow out valve
or a t-fitting on that drain line.
They also need a SS2 safety switch on
That coil.
118-128 Suction PSI
275-325 High side PSI is what one
should aim for on 410a.
She needs a surge protector, a hard start kit,
& a time delay relay.
These traps with clean-outs cost a bit more, but man do they pay off down the road.

That capacitor looks too rusty & suspect. I'd replace capacitor for sure , its not long for this world.
