Noob, amateur and pro form on a bike.. jeez pro form is so strange to look at but amazing too.. only thing moving is the leg meanwhile amateurs whole body moves.. crazy mind blown..
Geez didn't expect a pro racer to be so different. Look at his form. Hardly looks tucked in and calm as doing 600w dropping poor conor after minutes into the ride. Looked like a leisurely sunday ride for him.
I read your comment before watching the video and... Wow! You weren't kidding. He looked like the T-1000 while the Hank and Conor looked like they had a massive headwind, while they were actually drafting behind him. What a beast!
It’s always amazing to see professionals in any sport compared with what are also good amateurs. The dedication it takes to be that good is fascinating.
Also genetics filter out people. Just because people can ride a bike for 7 hours a day doesnt mean that they can develop anywhere near the FTP or VO2 of the best professionals
Both Connor and Hank are ex pros, very good amateurs I'd say. But yes, even more amazing that they're comparing guys that used to be able to race like that and have had a bit of time out of pro peloton.
+100 for this kind of video content. As Conor said, it really puts their super ability into perspective. Total respect to Lawrence and you guys for giving it a go.
I got into cycling in the US in the 1980s. At the time Paris-Roubaix and the Tour de France were pretty much the only TV coverage of European races available to us. I still dream of riding at least one of the Roubaix sportives. I will always enjoy content like this. Thanks for helping me live vicariously until I can get to do the real thing!
we are always so impressed by how fast pros ride all this race. and how hard it is ... far more impressed I am guessing how the riders in the early 20th century did this, how they SURVIVE this... I love cobble races to watch but I HATE ride them even for just 500 meters... do that race on a bike from 1909 😂
What struck me even more in We Ride Flanders is how the average Belgie descents on cobbles. They are different. On the flats and uphill, yes it‘s hard, 380W just to keep moving at times but on the descents nobody seems to care that wet cobbles are slippery and hard.
that was fun but also excellent content - getting an inside look at what it takes to be competitive in a modern peloton on the pavé was very instructive. The power output was ridiculous - Lawrence apparently has a ham stuffed down each leg of his cycling tights. Fair play to Hank and Conor, as ever. Also, it was quite hilarious when Conor was advising to shut up and ride when he was the only one talking. Inner monologue out loud, presumably.
Connor gets almost no drafting benefit from sitting behind these guys. What a monster. He’d be everyone’s favorite in a group ride. The human armchair. Respect to them for doing this.
If you found a sector with cobbles and also a continuous smooth dirt section next to it, I'd have liked to see if he could drop you if he was on the cobbles and you guys in the "smooth" dirt. Cool video to see the best making it look easy.
At 1:38 I think you'll get your arses handed to to you on a plate. Lawrence didn't the tired after getting back to the end of the last cobble section. After going to a café to get as espresso and back to the meeting plase before Hank and Conor got there.
wait so if suspension is good on cobbles and no suspension is good on road then wouldn't front suspension with lockout feature be good for race like this?
"Wow, what a captivating video! Watching you tackle those cobbles is truly mesmerizing. I could never handle them like that, so living vicariously through your adventures is the next best thing. Your skill is absolutely stunning, and it's been a while since I've seen anything quite like it. "Hold that wheel, Hank! You both absolutely nailed it and should be proud of yourselves." "Hank, I have to admit, I was expecting even more from you." "Wait, so if suspension works well on cobbles and no suspension is ideal for the road, wouldn't a front suspension with a lockout feature be perfect for a race like this?" "The level of analysis in this discussion is unparalleled. It feels like being part of a masterclass in critical thinking."
the Top riders always seem to win in the end so not sure how much "luck" there is - amongst the Top 10 it can come down to opportunities won or lost - untimely crash - flat - missing an attack - in general though you always see the hard riders come to the fore and win - "the harder I ride the luckier I get" motto seems more apropos to describe Paris-Roubaix - Connor needs to train more - he is getting too old far too fast - Hammering Hank - absorbing MORE punishment - GCN masochist rises to the top
Did the cobbles start to smooth out as you got faster, a bit like skipping across the tops of them, or was it always just beating on everything harder?
Would you recommend to ride that course with a road or gravel bike? I would imagine all those vibrations are not doing any good to the carbon frames and components
And then imagine this on race day with many more riders and the chances of clipping each other , at least the GCN boys were in a line behind him and NOT much chance of an accident to happen !
😂😂 fair enough! I had my fun though and did the hard miles, just enjoying riding my bike for kicks these days for the heck of it... At a much slower pace 😅👌 thanks for watching!
For those of you calling Football, 'the Most Beautiful Game'; step aside. Chapeau mates! P.S. Just kidding about Football; its beautiful too. Thank-you to everyone @GCN; love you and carry on please!
Not fair to Conner at all. Hank is by far the smallest rider of the three. Conner, the tallest, presenting a much bigger CDA, especially with the floppy jacket. Order should have been: Naesen/Conner/Hank. Edit: Vest with floppy long sleeve jersey. :)
I stopped the video when Conner said let us know how we will do. With all due respect I think you are going to get your ass handed to on a platter. LOL
Why don’t GCN presenters ever wear mitts? Especially on those final cobbles. Padded mitts would make a big difference. The pro was wearing gloves for a reason.
BRAVO ! Someone got it ! Considering # 1 injury cycling is HANDS . Also everyone was dressed head to toe ! EXEPT HANDS ! ? Warmth & Protection hmmm ! 😮😅😊😂
What videos would you like us to make? Let us know 👇
The new LOOK bikes , both the 795 and the 785 !!!

No more Paris Roubaix please
@@drummerman122 😂😂😂
a ride with Tomeke on the flanders cobbles!
Geez didn't expect a pro racer to be so different. Look at his form. Hardly looks tucked in and calm as doing 600w dropping poor conor after minutes into the ride. Looked like a leisurely sunday ride for him.
Hard as nails the cobbles riders. The boys and the girls. Respect to them.
I read your comment before watching the video and... Wow! You weren't kidding. He looked like the T-1000 while the Hank and Conor looked like they had a massive headwind, while they were actually drafting behind him. What a beast!
@@Frostbiker T-1000 is the perfection description of him haha
Mind blowing right!
The power these guys can maintain let alone produce is unbelievable! Great effort.
This Pro Lawrence is like a machine. well done to the Hank & Conor for giving it a go
Agreed. It still, hats off to the GCN duo! Respect!
Very impressive right! 💨 Speeds we can only dream of 🤯

It really does take a big effort 🙌
Both Connor and Hank are ex pros, very good amateurs I'd say. But yes, even more amazing that they're comparing guys that used to be able to race like that and have had a bit of time out of pro peloton.
holy cow! He did not even look like he was really working hard at over 600 Watts!
Great video.
Imagine facing that in a race, that poker face 👌
+100 for this kind of video content. As Conor said, it really puts their super ability into perspective. Total respect to Lawrence and you guys for giving it a go.
Great to hear you enjoyed it! We love making content like this 🙌 Anything else we should film?

Love this type of content. Have really enjoyed all the content you have posted from this Roubaix trip.
Thanks! We love Roubaix, it's always a highlight of the cycling calendar. Did you watch the racing? 🏁
Love it, when he said, " where did they go!!!" Great video.
"Gotta be honest Hank, I was expecting more from you" 🤣🤣🤣

“Where did they go” 😂😂 impressive
"My body's deserted me!" I know that feeling. My body deserted me years ago and still hasn't come back.
That dude looks like an absolute unit. It's like when you see the water polo players in the Olympics and are like, holy hell.
Amazing how effortless it looked for him as opposed to Hank and Connor looking all in.
Hahaha making us feel weak 🤣

Absolutely!! They ride cobbled downhills as if they are suicidal...
Amazing footage of what the current Pro's can acheive. And given that Connor and Hank are no slouches either.
Pretty impressive right! 🤯 Do you think you could ever get this quick?
Enjoyed the video
Never be able to ride cobbles like that so watching you guys is the next best thing
We're sure you could do it 🙌
Doing that in the wet and cold in the middle of a big bunch must be terrifying
I loved IT!! It's crazy how fit the pro's are...
Gentlemen, you are real troopers. Great job on the tarmac and especially the pave!
Top notch on pro rider, beauty of the sport how humble athletes can be
Watching you all and seeing cillian do the same. Cobbles must be a very rough, ride. Good show fun to watch.
Love this one...That is why we watch the pro's...unbelievable.
Hold that wheel Hank! You both did yourselves proud!
He's a trooper right! Hank never gives up... we've really tried to break him 👉ruclips.net/video/BFdjonYfnCo/видео.html
4:03 I can't get over the size of the head tube on connors bike. 😂
Great Video series Hank and Connor on Roubaix!!!

Cool video, it would have been nice to see the speed next to the power.
Nice video, Love Paris Roubaix, this was the perfect primer.
Connor gets almost no drafting benefit from sitting behind these guys. What a monster. He’d be everyone’s favorite in a group ride. The human armchair.
Respect to them for doing this.
You'd be surprised, I'm 6'6" and can get a decent amount behind someone a lot shorter. Not as much obviously but still a decent amount.
That Scott bike is lovely would love that myself

600w seated and it looked comfortable 😂 thats ridiculous 😅
Unreal. For me that‘s maybe a 1 minute on the indoor trainer with steam coming out of my ears.
I live in a cobble stone area and driving a road bike is a literal pain in the bottom.
Its also brutal for your bike and computer.
Enjoyed the smiles
You’re awesome - super inspiring, you should be proud!!! More videos by Cilian please 🙏 🎉😊
Good effort guys.
Great content, always like to see what the pros can do
Laurence looks awesome.. 🚴
had to google hard to find those wheels on yer man's Scott - Lightweight Fernweg EVOs if the inscrutable legend is anything to go by.
wait so if suspension is good on cobbles and no suspension is good on road then wouldn't front suspension with lockout feature be good for race like this?
Go and watch Peak Torque's show about this.........
Would be cool to see some footage from y’all’s old racing days
"Wow, what a captivating video! Watching you tackle those cobbles is truly mesmerizing. I could never handle them like that, so living vicariously through your adventures is the next best thing. Your skill is absolutely stunning, and it's been a while since I've seen anything quite like it.

So - do the rules forbid any form of suspension? Surely they would go faster? (Or at least be less bruised afterwards)
Video idea! How many people does it take a beginner cyclist to draft behind a pro?
They put out power numbers I can only dream of. 60kmh? I don’t get that going downhill.
my top speed (back in the 80s) was 77Kph, steep downhill in a group drafting each other. I don't think I could hold 30Kph for very long.
the Top riders always seem to win in the end so not sure how much "luck" there is - amongst the Top 10 it can come down to opportunities won or lost - untimely crash - flat - missing an attack - in general though you always see the hard riders come to the fore and win - "the harder I ride the luckier I get" motto seems more apropos to describe Paris-Roubaix - Connor needs to train more - he is getting too old far too fast - Hammering Hank - absorbing MORE punishment - GCN masochist rises to the top
I love how we are made to believe Hank and Connor are two total noobs and not ex pros themselves. Shows the difference for us mere mortals
And that’s why Conti, Pirelli, and Schwalbe make 35mm racing slicks
Did the cobbles start to smooth out as you got faster, a bit like skipping across the tops of them, or was it always just beating on everything harder?
Would you recommend to ride that course with a road or gravel bike? I would imagine all those vibrations are not doing any good to the carbon frames and components
it's amazing how strong the elite pro's actually are, imagine 100 other pro's racing at the same time on this course.?.
Where did the suspension seatpost and stem go?
They weren't paid to put them in this video. They obviously don't work all that well.
Having ridden the cobbles in the Flandrien Challenge you just have to switch off the part of the brain that says what if.
Smashed to bits! 😂
“Where did they go?” lol
The secret to riding cobbles is to float on top of them. It’s easy to maintain high speeds similar to pros when you understand this.
And now imagine how MVDP would drop this pro....
And then imagine this on race day with many more riders and the chances of clipping each other , at least the GCN boys were in a line behind him and NOT much chance of an accident to happen !
Conor's gotten puny in his retirement from World Tour!!
😂😂 fair enough! I had my fun though and did the hard miles, just enjoying riding my bike for kicks these days for the heck of it... At a much slower pace 😅👌 thanks for watching!
And to think that MvDP does this to the rest of the pro field!!!
To be fair, the pro was being motor-paced the whole way!
Still would have got dropped, but I can’t help thinking Connor wasn’t benefitting from all the draft sitting being Hank 😂
Yep thanks for backing me up!! What I said after filming 😂😂
@@conordunne1 Haha - seemed obvious! 😅
For those of you calling Football, 'the Most Beautiful Game'; step aside. Chapeau mates! P.S. Just kidding about Football; its beautiful too. Thank-you to everyone @GCN; love you and carry on please!
That bike Scott is hot, what model is that?
It's a Scott Foil
I hope Lawrence's mechanical watch survived the cobblestone rattle.
How does he make 650W look so easyyyyyyy 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
That's World Tour level talent and training for ya!
Top talent + 20+ hours on the bike per week.
beautiful
my teeth hurt watching these bikes on the cobbles
next time in gcn: xc super bike vs pro on the cobbles
“I was almost winning” 😂
Where did they go? 😂🎉❤
Let’s be honest, Conner wasn’t getting much of a draft behind Hank 🤣
Gotta be easier than riding the pot holed roads of Sheffield 😮
Hahahaha it's a close call
Guy looked like he was out for a light zone 2 ride
Does anyone have a wrist check on the guy?
bruh i can't even hold 600w for 30s on smooth tarmac
Scooter needed a gopro too, way too shaky on those cobbles.
yea the pro used his line choice, no watts to drop em, lol
I'm prepared to put money down that I *could not* do better. :D
Pro wasn’t even breathing…..😂 great watch
Cries in 200w
Pro rider with mustache... you know you are going to get dropped in the first minutes.
Not fair to Conner at all. Hank is by far the smallest rider of the three. Conner, the tallest, presenting a much bigger CDA, especially with the floppy jacket. Order should have been: Naesen/Conner/Hank. Edit: Vest with floppy long sleeve jersey. :)
Exactly the excuse I came back to base with!!
Why does his bike seem far too small for him
🤔🤔👏👏👍👍
I stopped the video when Conner said let us know how we will do. With all due respect I think you are going to get your ass handed to on a platter. LOL
This is the GCN we like! Not the GCN that is turning cycling into a dentist sport.
😂lols - this is great
No gloves?
That phrase looks pro is right there and its not Hank or Conor.
600w on cobblestone and not even breaking a sweat? How is he even human lol
What were you guys thinking? Of course he's going to drop you.
Not much of a surprise there. You should start renaming these videos "We were unable to hold a pro's wheel.....again"
Lawrence was doing 600+ watts and breathing with his mouth closed
gcn shouldve used bigger tires and suspension, they wouldve dropped the pro
Looks miserable, in the best way possible. 😂
4 pedal strokes and I'd be dropped
