  • Hi there, I'm Dr. Sarah Mitchell, in this video, I will explain the following topics so make sure to watch the complete video to understand toddler sleep regressins.
    What is Toddler Sleep Regression
Signs of a Toddler Sleep Regressions
    Toddler Sleep Regression Ages
    3-3.5 years
    What Causes Toddler Sleep Regressions?
Erik Erickson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development Theory
    How to Manage It?
Anytime you hear “sleep regression,” I want you to think PROGRESS. Your toddler is growing neurologically and that’s distracting them from relaxing into sleep. Sleep regressions are all about DISTRACTIONS. Things that take your child’s brain somewhere else and don’t allow her to relax into sleep.

Hi there, I have similar situations like the comments below. However he has been sleep trained since 8months. He was the best sleeper ever. Naps no problem sleeping all night no problem. Ever since he turned 3 back in June 26 he has boycott naps and then wants to nap at 5pm and I don’t allow it so he can in bed by 7pm. He wakes up every night and screams, yells, cries for my attention. He will not put himself to sleep until I go over and he wants to come to bed with me. It has been happening for almost two weeks now. I’m not sure what else to do. Let him cry himself to sleep or just stay in room. Please help

he's ready to sleep at 5 pm, don't hold him off until 7 pm, put him down at 12 pm. Night wakings are usually related to being overtired - so get more sleep in. And then you're dealing with beahvioral issues and sleep skills. We teach how to get out of this scenario in Helping Toddlers Sleep. It's more than a quick comment on a video. www.helpingbabiessleepschool.com

Im going through the exact same situation with my 21 month old right now, he was sleep trained at 6mos & has been a great sleeper since, but has recently started refusing naps and needing lots of help to fall asleep. He’s been skipping many naps the past couple weeks and waking during the night to have bottles again. I just started letting him cry it out while checking on him 3,5,10,15 min intervals and it took him an hour & 45min to fall asleep tonight by himself. But he did it by himself!

Hi there, so my 3 years old has been having this regression for the past 2 weeks. Used to be an amazing self soother, doesn’t need any rocking or us accompany her to fall asleep. But now she refuse to do that on her own, She wants us to stay until she falls asleep that some time cluld take 1-2 hrs. I tried being consistent with the usual night routine by letting her try to self soothe, but she wwent into a rage and just banging on the door every single night.. What should we do? Really need your help

Novita, this is exactly me right now. Identical situation. My baby will be 3 in a few weeks. Shes been sleep trained since she was 8 months old and yes, as normal, she has gone through many sleep regressions and stuff but now, since a week or 2 ago, she has started to really just go into a rage and bang on the door and stuff. Tonight I decided that I would just not go back to her room cos even when I did previously, i would go in to find that there is absolutely nothing wrong and she's just testing the waters. It was difficult to stand my ground tonight but I think things will get better.

I’m in the same boat. My son he’s been waking up early I’m taking about 5 , 5:30 , 6am. Only sleeping 8 hours a day plus nap. And wakes up at night because of nightmares. This has been happening for a few months now.

Hi there, my toddler is 25 months old. And he has been going thro sleep regression for 5 weeks now and still counting. . He refuses to nap and sleep. He could scream for up to 5 hrs from 7pm to 12am. He does not give up to lie down and sleep.
Since he started claiming out of his cot we moved him to toddle big bed. He’s really excited. But of course he keeps going out, open the door. He wakes up several times at night. He used to sleep so well 7pm-7am.
We tried cry it out method but it was so painful for like 4 weeks. Eventually, we got our helper to lie down with him. He wants our presence then he will fall asleep. We are so lost right now. Help!!!!

Do you have any help videos for “split sleep”? Our 3 year old does not nap anymore and hasn’t since he was 1 1/2, he refuses to nap.
He goes to be at 6pm and wakes up 4 nights a week at 2am and will not fall back asleep til 2-3 hours later. He wakes up by 5:30am regardless of how many hours hes awake.
This has been going on one and a half years, were losing our minds.
We’ve tried keeping him up later and by then hes Delirious from being awake so many hours and will still wake up for the day by 5:30 am everyday.

Hi there, what you describe is something that I see frequently in my practice. Usually it's because parents continue to "engage" at that hour thinking they can 'make him sleep.' If you're looking for more guidance we can definitely help you inside Helping Toddlers Sleep class and group coaching program. www.helpingbabiessleepschool.com.
