Just Turned Out Perfect Andrea, Not Tried This But It’s On The List Now, It’s Getting Longer, As I Craft Slow, And Have Lots Of Interests, So More Than One Thing On The Go At One Time TYFS Lynn 🦋🦉🍄x
Beautiful, beautiful covers Andrea. I LOVE crinkling up tissue papers and bringing out the bumpy-ness of them. Also loved that inside cover paper you used on the first book. Just a lovely job. TFS
this is fabulous. I've done the manilla envelope today for the cover of a medieval prayer journal. Can't wait to finish! Worked with what I had...had no mp so used YES paste to seal the cover. :) Thanks for the great and straightforward tutorial.
Did one as I watched on a manilla folder. I had some brown thin craft paper that turned out great. Had to use black ink but I found some old Victorian velvet too. Awesome results. Thank you so much. I am so pleased.
Outstanding...it really looks like leather. I can’t believe it was the first one you did. Thank you for the encouragement to “just do it”. You are right, we have to practice. Really enjoying the “Back to the Basics” series. Thank you so much!
I am an artist. I know great art when I see it. You are so amazingly gifted, Your work is the best. I am looking forward to owning one of your beautiful journals.
I have done it. Made my first faux leather junk journal cover. Thank you so very much for your kindness in sharing your knowledge. I did make one boo boo. I put the tyveck on the back of my envelope not in between instead de the mail envelope. So I will just cover it with my inside cover panel as one large piece I guess.
Watching this again. I made 4 covers like this. They came out awesome! Thanks so much for this tutorial! It’s easier than I thought, just time consuming but well worth it!
I love this series. You have great talent. I've finished three journals. The first one was a disaster. I can't wait to watch the next video. You have such wonderful ideas. Thanks!
I really enjoyed your video and learned so much! Thanks for your excellent step-by-step tutorial--I'm looking forward to trying my hand at making a faux leather journal cover!
Great tutorial Andrea ( as always) for the Aussie ladies you can get 10x A4 sheets of Tyvek sent from the UK on Ebay for around $17-$20 Au. Thanks again lovey xox
I love the effects off it all andera another stunning process just wonderful andera cant wait for more of your amazing creations to come thankyou for taking the time to show us all. X
My favorite is the tissue paper one, absolutely love the color of that one..great job Andrea...thank you for your time and for an awesome tutorial. Learned so much from you and I appreciate all that you do! Have a wonderful day! ♥ ☺
These videos are helping me a lot! Even though I've made many journals, many times I'm guessing as to how to do things. Thanks Andrea! Keep um coming🍪🍬🎯
So much fun! I do something very similar too, i tend to add gold and brass colors to the top layer. I cant seem to help myself. Have you ever wet the envelopes down first and added glycerin drops on your hands and rubbed into the paper, then crinkled them up? while wet? you have to be a little careful not to get a hole but i feel even if you get a hole it just adds to the finished look. The glycerin will keep the papers soft, er, flexible its great for faux leather techniques. I also add a sheet of card stock to the inside of the envelopes after the faux leather is done just to make them feel more weighted in my hand? i dont know.
Iti thank you, yes I have but I mix the glycerin with the water in a spray bottle plus I run them through my embossing machine for different effects. X
Beautiful. Have you ever tried gluing down string in a pattern and in ridges across before putting on napkin so that it looks like I think it's called tooled leather?
Absolutely loved watching this video Andrea. I cant wait to try this. I love the effect on them all but my favourite is the original TN one you done with the card. Xxxx
Thank you Andrea. I can't get enough of your videos, I like yours the best! So, forgive me if you've already addressed the question I have. I want to know if a watered down acrylic paint wash (walnut ) can be substituted for the Distress Stain? I don't have the stain, but I have acrylic paints. Thanks again!
Inspiring ;) I was wondering if instead of Mod Podge, could the home made Clear Gesso be used just in case you wanted to draw as you said about the tree bark lines then it would be easy to paint them or draw them in on the cover. Sadly way too hot for crafting for the next few days for me, so I am 'escaping the heat' by binge watching your 'back to basics' series :)
Love your videos, honestly... you're one of they few youtubers that I never get tired watching. The sound of the seagulls, your cheerful giggles, the details you show as you go, everything keeps me fascinsted. Thank you for another fab tutorial. One question... Does your mod podge stay sticky after it dries? Or do you add a sealant on top? I've made a few envelope covers with napkins and the glue after 2 months now still seems sticky. I asked at hobby craft and they suggested a water based spray sealant to avoid the problem and also gave me decoupage glue (is in a green bottle) saying that it doesn't stay sticky and guess what... is even worse!! I really love the finish that matte mod podge gives and am afraid of losing it after using the sealant. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks Andrea xx
dreamyMM I’ve heard that if you live in a humid climate, that the Mod Podge can get sticky. I’m in Texas and that’s what it’s done with my things too. I haven’t tried a sealer over the top of it, maybe I’ll try that.
@@tfntexas indeed is the humid climate that causes it. In Greece I never had a problem but now that I live in UK is totally different! I hope the sealant works for you hun xoxo
dreamyMM no mine is fine, never had a problem but have heard some do. Just a thought have you tried talk on it as I use this on sticky residue of tape etc x
I had my envelope ready, then became to sick to really work on much. Feeling a lot better now, and would like to do this. Andrea I seen someone post that made theirs with purple inks..... if you want to do different colours do you just find ones you like and mix them up ? Lol maybe not good id a for beginners. 😆
This may sound like a dumb question, what are the strips you put in middle for spine ? I’m taking notes, as I’ve been in excruciating pain for a week with sinus infection, and allergies....so frustrating I tell you .....wanting so bad to craft and not being able to do much of anything 😢 I did however make my first snippet, and finished my envelope except the postal cancellation stamp ( waiting to get one of those ) I’ll post a photo the way it is for now 🙂 I’m so thankful for you doing this beginners process series .... 💕💕💕
pink robin thank you, if you want to contact me via Etsy I’m sure I could put something together for you if you want to let me know what sort of bundle you would prefer. Just been a bit busy but if I have a direction it seems to help. Xx
Wonderful Tutorial on making the journal covers! You are very helpful to us who are just learning to do them! Love the look of all 3 covers! I think my favorite one is the one you used the orange envelope to make it. Where are you located? Where I work in Texas USA- we trash a lot of these envelopes, if the shipping is not to high , I would be willing to send them to you if you want them. Less a few for me now! ☺ TFS - Hugs, Christal 🧡
Andrea, I’m finally going to brave stitching around my cover, since I’m almost ready to sew in my signatures. I was wondering about the stitching on either side of spine ... what distance from the middle, and where the holes for the signatures are did you stitch down both sides ?
Lynn M yay! I drew a pencil line 5 1/2 inches from the edge both sides and used that as my guide to sew over the top of it. so leaves an inch spine as envelope is 12”. X
The gulls are so nice to hear in the background.
Beautiful cover…..really like how it looks like soft leather🤗🤗🤗
Love your video so much and for so many reasons, but I particularly love hearing the seagulls from time to time!

Great covers Andrea. I love that you show different materials and different ways to make a cover.
Did one as I watched on a manilla folder. I had some brown thin craft paper that turned out great. Had to use black ink but I found some old Victorian velvet too. Awesome results. Thank you so much. I am so pleased.
Leather look is just lovely, and your method so clearly taught. Thanks bunches, Andrea. Carol

I have another question 😊 once you stain it and it’s dry can you wrinkle it up again? Mine is not so wrinkled lol. Ty love your videos as always 🤗
Kathy Jones yes you can but not after the final coat of modge podge x
Loved it.. thanks for sharing..
P.s. any update on the paper bundles?.. xx

Andrea, if you were to sell the envelopes done, and bearing in mind how much time it takes to do each one, what would you price them at?
