- THIS IS A FURTHER SELECTION OF PICTURES OF BRISTOL TRAMS THAT I HAVE COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS. THE PICTURES BEGIN WITH THE OPENING OF THE ELECTRIC TRAMWAY IN 1895 AND END WITH THE BREAKING UP OF THE TRAM FLEET AT KINGSWOOD DEPOT IN 1940.
3:58 that picture of looking down the stairs at the driver is amazing. I've not seen that one before.
It is amazing what pictures turn up. Dave.
Great pic of tramways terminus in Wesbury. I currently volunteer in a charity shop just round the corner from Mogfords, it's so funny to see that the shop is still there and still showing their wares outside, completely in a time warp. Don't suppose you have a date Dave?
I found the photo it says 1910. The shop is still there which is amazing. Regards Dave.
Thanks for sharing, Dave. I am wondering if the image at 0:30 is Church Road, St George - at the turn off to the depot in Beaconsfield Road? It looks too sharp a turn to be just a passing loop.
Cheers,
Clive
That does look like a trolley pole switch, which to me doesn't look that extreme. Perhaps the photo was taken at St George's Fountain, top end of Church Road, or Three Lamps in Totterdown?
Hello Clive. I think you are right. I didn't notice this before. Regards Dave.
4:20 No kidding on that notice, "dangerous to touch the overheard electric wires". Because 600 volts DC would likely kill you instantly, more so on wet days when it was raining. I assume Bristol Tramways was running on 600 volts DC, as most trams did, and still do.
You had to do your own health and safety in those days. Regards Dave.
After watching this, I fancy a pint of GEORGES' BEERS and lighting my ciggies with RUBY MATCHES.
That would make a nostalgic evening. Thanks for watching. Regards Dave.
