Provo Way Employee of the Week - Ashley Damavandi, Centennial Middle School Math Teacher

"Ashley is a great teacher at Centennial Middle School," said Carla Johnson, the district's Secondary Curriculum Math Specialist. "She constantly looks for ways to stretch students mathematically."
Carla is talking about Ashley Damavandi, a stellar Centennial Middle School Math Teacher who received the Provo Way Award through Carla's nomination.
Through monthly Provo Way awards, the Provo City School District and Board of Education aim to highlight and celebrate the positive impact that students, teachers, administrators, parents, and staff have on our community.
Math is a subject that, like the teaching profession, is often overlooked and underappreciated. A good math teacher pushes students to grow and learn-likely against the student's will. We would argue that great math teachers strive to grow and learn, too. It is for these many reasons and more that Carla Johnson nominated Damavandi. To quote:
"Ashley is always willing to model effective research-based strategies for colleagues. She's willing to share her resources and practice with others. She keeps her practice current by participating in professional learning with her peers to serve her students better."
We are so lucky to have such a fantastic math teacher in our district. Thank you, Ashley, for all you do, seen and unseen, for the youth of Provo.
