You sir, are a legend! Would never have thought of using pipe grips to get the plugs out. Was really struggling until I found this video. Genius idea!!

Brah, lekker job, man. I have a similar situation with my old Mitsubishi here in Portugal, a plug behind the exhaust manifold is leaking. I see how you did that, and I will have a go at it myself. Mooi, man....so good to hear a Saffa accent, especially a brassavanniekaap......happy new year, brah.

Excellent video, thank you! Been struggling to get these out for ages. The half a pipe wrench idea worked first time.

brilliant video I did my core plugs this afternoon on a mk1 golf clipper. just had to remove the exhaust and anti roll bar. after that it gave loads of room.

I had to replace a welch plug by myself on my 1991 1.8L Fox and I tried the method of knocking it from the top, but, it would not budge. I then punched a hole in it and tried using a cheap long nose plier to do what you did with the pipe wrench and instead the tip of the long nose plier broke off inside that hole. I could not get that plug out and eventually just to get the car running again I made a sealing plug using a 10mm bolt and 2 x metal washers the size of that hole diameter, placed the bolt head inside the hole with 1 washer filled in high heat silicone and sandwiched it between the 2 washers with a 10mm nut and it worked to seal it for a while. I eventually had to give it to my mechanic to do a proper job. Some piece of advise, NEVER try to clean the holes with anything other than a rag. Using anything rough will remove material and make the hole slightly larger and the original plugs that you buy will not seat properly as you have discovered.

Joh that sounds like a lot of work. I recently had to do my Land Rover Defender TD5 welsh plugs, and holy shit that was so difficult, had to take the whole one side of. Hope the video help though. sorry for the bad quality.

What did you remove to access the plugs. That Caddy and my Fox is the same but I see the driveshaft and gear selector in the way.

Hurshill Lutchman you can do it like that if you want, like said, i just did it this way cos of the tools i had, and i didn't want to raise the motor. If you have space and a spare car as well as time then raise the motor, unless ones lazy then leave it in. The tools and methods i used are just a guideline as to how i did it. You should derive your own solution or method from there. Hope ii inspired you to tackle this problem head on. :)
