Oh man!, My wife looked over at me and asked why I was laughing... "That was not pee" "I'm pretty sure that this is a male..." Great video sir. I finally had some luck today, I am very interested in trying the float rig. I will be picking some floats up my next Mule Fishing order!
Im going to be 100% honest. I use to only target bass. There were many times I ended up disappointed. I was a power fishing angler. I changed my whole approach and started multi species angling. I have caught more bass with the new approach. That also lead me too being a good finesse angler when targeting bass
This is the best comment ever. This is what many anglers do not understand about the light line approach. You can actually learn even more about other species by doing this!
@@FishAnything this is 100% what I am experiencing now. No joke just caught a 7lbs Large Mouth on a trout magnet! Since becoming obsessed with ultralight fishing i have yet to get skunked! Also just purchased my first Mule Fishing order! can't wait for it to arrive!
3 things 1) I seriously can’t wait to get these minnows on the water seeing what people are doing with them. 2) float rig is the plan for the 1.2 on my daughters rod this year. Get her, her first fish in artificial. 3) I make an awesome bacon wrapped turkey for thanksgiving.
1) YES SIR 2) I love the fact that you are excited for fishing with your daughter. Keep inspiring a love for the outdoors my friend! 3) Where is my invite? :)
Thank you Dan! They really are good options for the folks like us who prefer using really light gear. If anglers want to toss heavier weights, there are lots of other great float options out there too.
I can remember back in the late 90's I was doing the same thing with a crappie tube and just tearing the bass up. I did it enough that I figured it wasn't a coincidence. Not to long after that I ran into a friend that said he had been doing the same thing for years with good results during the late winter/early spring months.
Gonna have to try a slip float setup this year at the pressured pond at a local park. Glad to see your still slaying them! I haven't been able to fish in what feels like forever 😵
I love float rigs it’s how I got started in UL fishing for trout. Been using the slip float rig more often. I love to use the Pitzen knot for my rigs because it also helps present the lure more naturally. And you’re right. You don’t dry out chicken.
I use slip floats all the time. Just got my Mule Fishing order and I'm really looking forward to testing it out on stocked trout in the Arizona mountain lakes this Spring, Summer, and Winter. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awesome video, slip float on the ultralight with the mule plastics it doesn't get any better than that Crappie delites with great action 👍thanks 4 sharing that footage James H.
You ever try something you’ve never used before totally botch the way you supposed to do it but don’t realize it until years later while watching someone else’s video.... I just realized when I tried bobber stops with the line as a stopper that you’re supposed to remove the little black tube it comes on in order to tighten it around your line for use.... Thinking back now I remember that I kept trying to tighten the line on the tube to the line to create the bobber stop... I’m going to get some more and figure this out once and for all because I want to try this technique!!!
Haha well now you know! Honestly the packaging doesn't do a good job of educating people. It makes sense you had issues. Hopefully you have fun with this rig now that you understand it better :)
Caught a 2lb 6oz and 2lb 11oz today on the Horsefly. I was happy to find that it works as good as the Donkey Tail Jr. Literally 40 fish today on a single plastic. I suspect these minnows will replace all my Bobby Garland baby shad plastics.
@@FishAnything just saw this Video again, it's been a few months! This is my favorite way to Fish your stuff my man. Been tearing em up on the 1/80 oz. with the 1.2" bodies this Winter under the tiny bobber!
So interestingly enough when i worm fish for bass I will use a 4 inch worm with just an offset hook and let it sink naturally. Then do really slow raise once it hits bottom back up like 4-6 feet. Tend to catch a lot of bass on the natural drop. Sometimes hard to pick up hits on the drop if you have to much slack line. Slip float might actually really help with that especially with fluoro.
Almost nothing doesn’t taste better with bacon 🤤. Spent some time today out with my son. We were chasing stocked trout, but it was a little slow. Happy to report the Donkey Tail, Jr. was the only thing to land the trout. I should probably get some slip bobbers so it’s less likely one of my kids hooks me 🤔😂.
Haha always bring more snacks! And I am glad you scored a big perch at the bare minimum. Hang in there, I have had some tough trips so far this year too.
I tried this rig the other day using a 1/80oz mule jig with a 1.2 minnow but found that rig was floating on the water and not going through the slip float. I'm using 4lb mono. I assume this is why you mentioned the split shot. Where do I put the split shot? Right next to the jig head where I tie on the line or somewhere above the jig head? I'd love some feedback here.
Sorry I just got to this! Yeah, I would add your split shot about 10-24" above your jig. That will keep your float from hitting the jig and will help it sink down. The super light weights with a slip float are a bit tricky so the split shot helps.
Well at least before April 15 th I should have 4 packages of your lures delivered. Hardest part is watch the videos and not doing it myself.... lol I hope they a good for salmon too since I upgraded my license this season. Mike from Canada 🇨🇦
I will be trying this rod this year. From what I can tell, the shorter GX2 rods would be fine but I would probably advise going with a 13 Fishing Defy Silver if you are choosing between the two. Or a Shimano Sensilite. Both of those rods are better than the Ugly Stik for this style of fishing and are similar price range.
@@FishAnything awesome. I have a medium rod that is super parabolic, but I hear you say that isn’t great for the jigs, so I’m going to go for another UL rod
@@FishAnything either way, a longer rod definitely helps setting the hook on a long cast. You notice the difference more with harder fighting fish from the salt. Whatever suits your fancy in all honesty 😂. That said, love your content man. Keep it up!
@@FishAnything and further more you achieved something I aspire to try. When I fish it is intense for me, like zen with a touch of ruthless drive to succeed. At this stage I'd burn the darn fillet minion.
Hey so I realized your floats don't actually have the slit down their side which lets you slide them onto your line as a normal bobber, which is a bit of a shame. Most foam slip bobbers like this come with a slit in them and it allows it to have additional functionality, is there a specific reason why yours don't?
Hey there! Yeah I avoided the slot because I have found they have less issues with tangling up in the line and causing line twist or damage to your line. While is is a bit less convenient to have to re-rig, I feel it works better once rigged up.
Depends on how deep you set the float to go. You adjust the little bobber stop and can set your depth accordingly. In this case, my jig was about 5 feet under the surface.

Ethan, can you try the uglystik gx2 ultralight? Would it be good? I would be fishing with the mule jigs and plastics

@@FishAnything however I did see the defy silver for 30 dollars!
Have you not got any weight near the hook ?
From a science stand point, you get less leverage with a longer rod, but you do still get a longer cast and more line pick up on the set
I am certainly not a scientist. Maybe not leverage but more line pickup and casting distance lol
@@FishAnything either way, a longer rod definitely helps setting the hook on a long cast. You notice the difference more with harder fighting fish from the salt. Whatever suits your fancy in all honesty 😂. That said, love your content man. Keep it up!

Depends on my rod. With braid, I run a leader. With mono, I keep it straight main line.

I used a few in this video. Dobyns Sierra Trout & Panfish, Daiwa Procyon, & TFO Trout & Panfish. All Daiwa size 1000 reels
How low does your jig sit from your bobber?
Depends on how deep you set the float to go. You adjust the little bobber stop and can set your depth accordingly. In this case, my jig was about 5 feet under the surface.
