Sounds like the soup nazi episode (Seinfeld)you need to play the roll of being grateful just to be there because what they have is so good to pass up that you’re going to deal with the bad service.
I had a similar experience with Star Wars collecting dude wouldn’t let me touch things then he was put off when I didn’t want to buy something he would ask me why. So I walked out with nothing even though I did want to buy some of it.
I find it bizarre that many of the Steranko Strange Tales covers can be had cheaper than the solo Nick Fury ones. I like these grabs. I just need one more of those Campbell covers to complete the trifecta. I'm a little jealous about getting to see the Peppers.
I was visiting a friend in April. He lives near Fredericksburg. Took us to VA beach to hunt. This was one if the stops. That first case had a Casey Jones first app. Ended up getting some end of the run GI Joe marvel though.
It's not uncommon for antique store workers to hover. Just gotta either focus on the search or talk with them about your passion. I've traveled through my state for years and after a while, it's not a bother, and most staff will be happy when you buy a ton of stuff.
That ASM is a great comic. I do wish they did a cover for it instead of straight black. I have a hard time finding ones that don’t have some sort of color rub for cheap
As annoying as it probably was that they were looking over your shoulder, it's probably smart. There are a couple of antique consignment shops in my area. One has comics and they don't really watch them enough, although I'm pretty sure I've seen cameras in the area, so maybe they're recording. My biggest problem there is when you're trying to check out and the line is backed up because you have a ton of old folks talking to the cashier and they're trying to mark everything off of their consignment list while they're checking you out. I'm just put stuff back up and left because they had a line a mile long. Maybe they should just write down what people are buying and do the list later? Or maybe I should just go when I have time to wait. Which is what I do now when I go. The other antique mall I go to pays no attention to what is going on. Since they don't have comics, I've thought about trying to get a booth. But they pay zero attention to what is going on and only have a camera over the main door. I wouldn't trust my stuff in there. I'm honest when I buy items there, but I wouldn't trust everyone to be like me.
Weird how many different ways to approach this hobby. I wouldn’t know a key if it slapped me in the face, certainly have no clue about value. I just flip through boxes looking for zombie stuff, or post apoc stuff, or filling some obscure run from 5 years ago that I thought was interesting to read, etc... so, with that being the case, antique malls are a no-go. flipping through box after box of dollar comics with $5 price stickers on each and every one them is a complete waste of time for me, lol.
Where the heck did you see Ice Cube & RHCP in one venue at the same time? I’ve seen both at Louder Than Life in Louisville KY but different years. Both were incredible but they didn’t play on the same bill. Oh & Cube is a quite a bigger dude than he comes across as in the media 😉
SG. There are thieves out there and some of them are very good at it. General Antique staff are usually not going to catch anyone that has switched tags. Just part of doing business. And as I said in Mikes reply. Thieves I have encountered are very very nice people on the surface. I pray for the people the people that steal from me. I suggest u pray for anyone that stares at u
You should be allowed to browse without a chaperone by letting them hold onto your ID. I would be really uncomfortable in your shoes especially since most like us browse for a bit of time in a place like that.☺
Great pick up.I got the 9/11 asm and asm#601 CGC 9.8. I am just trying to get TMNT#1 then i am done collecting comics cause after 17 years ,there is nothing else i want cause X-Men#1 and Batman#1 isn't gonna happen.
Everybody steals😮 no surprise there😮 but if you cannot identify a buyer from a thief, you allow the person to touch the item. Let them have a box enjoy themselves and then put the box back and check it 😮 Nobody wants to spend with someone Hawking over them. It’s bad enough to do that at the mall with a corporation, but not a family run business. Let the people look let the people touch or get out of the business and start collecting you’re a collector or salesman. You are a pitch man or you’re a cop which one are you? Omg Mike. I speak from experience. The people that steal from you are the nicest people u would ever want to meet. Very sociable . But u turn your back and boom your good stuff is gone or prices switched. Got hit recently. My own fault not staff and I let my guard down and boom $250 or more inventory gone. I pray for them.
There is a local comic shop near me, went in with my wife, she saw ASM # 20 first scorpion , she asked to look at it. While doing so, his hands were still out, I saw this and quickly said..here is your book back. It's a shame that good people have to suffer for the bad one's. My wife just loves ❤️ 😍 old ASM, That is why she an almost complete collection. I understand your anxiety as well as the shop keeper. It is just the world we live in. 😮

I saw the Chili Peppers in 1985. I saw Ice Cube with Rage Against The Machine, Alice In Chains, and Primus ( Lalapalooza. 👍 The last concert I attended was in Richmond Va. - Dweezil Zappa. Three days before that, I saw King Crimson in DC. Music is one of the few things I enjoy more than comics.
