I first started working on this video a short time after Michael Jackson passed away and I'm so glad it's finally come together. Stupid me for choosing this video to learn FinalCut on! Anyway, this video is my tribute to the incredible dancer/choreographer Bob Fosse. I've included in this tribute: films Fosse choreographed, ones he appeared in himself, and, also, the film versions of some of the Broadway shows he choreographed (which is why films like "Chicago" and "Bells Are Ringing" are on here). All of them show the hallmarks of Fosse's iconic style (as did Michael Jackson's original "Smooth Criminal" video, actually). So, tilt your hat to the side, relax and enjoy Michael Jackson "Fosse-style"! ;)
I would rather watch Bob Fosse dance himself than everything he choreographed. The man was absolutely flawless. Just fluid in his motions. What a talent!
If anyone knows anything about MJ ,you know he loved this man,his Muse ❤😮😊
Awesome! They don't make them like that anymore. I was raised on Bob Fosse, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The older I get the more I miss those kinds of shows and movies. They remind me of my mom.😢
Totally agree. My late mother would take me to cinema to see all the musicals as soon as they came out. Such a great. Now when I see them on tv, I she'd a tear remembering those times and teaching me to appreciate the arts.
Rayne, yes I totally agree, I too was raised in that great era of Wonderful Musicals, great dancers. Jane Powell, Tommy Rall, Gwen Verdon, 3rd wife of Bob Fossie. I loved when Bob and Gwen would dance together, they were so cute. Bob was such a wonderful dancer himself. All the ones you mentioned, Daddy Long Legs movie Fred Astire, Leslie Caron. It was on TV today. Wow. I have bought alot of great Musical Dvds of alot of these wonderful Musicals. ❤ They always made you feel so after. 🥰
Insanely well edited...
Yes and insane dancing from these people.
Oh man. That piece with Tommy Rall. One of my favs ever with Bob Fosse. That, and with Gwen in Damn Yankees. I love sharing "The Snake" from "The Little Prince" with people who think MJ came up with those moves on his own. As Fosse himself said about MJ, "Clean, neat, fast, with a sensuality that comes through. Maybe he's more a synthesizer than an innovator, but it's never the steps that are most important. It's the style. That's what Michael has." When MJ first exploded in the '80s, my mom was the one who would say very dismissively, "No, that's Bob Fosse." You could tell she was thinking "teenagers today, they don't know a thing." That was how I fell in love with Fosse.
Fosse was a GENIUS.
Michael learned from the masters and became the master.
more like ripped them off
OH my, the sheer power, the fluid motion, the perfect timing! Fosse pure stuff of Legend, MJ the KING, mixed total completion. I love me some MJ I love me some Fosse...TO THE GREATS!
This makes MJ a legend performance,,, they he collected all these in one dance,,, AMAZING
Freakin LOVE LOVE LOVE Bob Fosse. His style was so sexy cool. I forgot how many films and plays he was involved in (director, choreographer AND sometimes actor/dancer). Awesome!
Absolutely BRILLIANT editing of some of the work of the best choreographer bar none! Especially to this great MJ song. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I second your comment@
The strong beat changes the rhythm of your heart. While every move may seem random, when that beat pops, the feeling is "yes, that's real that's exactly what I want to see." Thank you for this. Felt it down deep
I've always loved Fosses' and Michaels' killer dance moves. This a great video! Many, many thanks
Fosse is the Original
Great job. I've just discovered Bob Fosse very recently. I love all of his choreography! I've watched so many movies that has his choreography in them! He was truly talented.
Isn't he great? I've loved a lot of these movies since I was a kid (esp Damn Yankees-
Brilliant! What an incredible tribute to all the performers, Michael and Fosse. Bravo👏👏👏❤
Thank you so much!! 🥰
Excellent tribute to a great choreographer with such a strong landmark. Congratulations for your effort
“strong landmark” great word(s) choice, his unique understanding of dimension is a marvel, Fosse’ that is.
Love all the dance moves. I watched the "Fosse" Broadway musical in New York, and it was fantastic.
MASTERPIECE.. BRAVO FOR THE SYNCHRONIZATION..AND THE TRUTH
LOVE LOVE LOVE. if this does not make you want to get up and move your body, you are dead. this brought me joy! thanks!
FOSSE ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHOREOGRAPHERS.. PURE GENIUS!!! LOVE THIS DEDICATION
Bob said he liked “hungry” artists and having delved a bit for a few weeks it seemed that Fosse never lost his drive, perfectionists can be irritating but they create some of the most innovative and beautiful art, the human art of dance. He never lost his hunger for perfection. This also haunted him. MJ and Bob Fosse we’re kindred spirits
LOVE some Bob Fosse; The Original ❤
What a beautiful tribute to the remarkable, once in a life time gift Bob Fosse was. "All That Jazz" be damned! lol
Fosse was Mj's main inspiration choreographically if thats a word
@nemoran billy jean and the moon walk is pretty much a snake in the grass from the little prince. Even the clothes is fosse.
@@amateurwave3593 I agree on the Billie Jean/Snake in the Grass similarities/inspiration. But Fosse did not invent the moonwalk. Astaire did it, Cab Calloway did it, and so did many other tap dancers from the 1930s and possibly before that.
@@jamihede4440 While that is true, and the moonwalk isn't Fosse's, he was a huge inspiration and Michael had Fosse down to the tip of his hat. Michael is the GOAT of dance choreography and movement IMHO. But Fosse was one of his main inspirations and a GOAT in his own right, without a doubt.
It was Fred Astaire and James Brown and Sammy Davis who inspired his style.
@@terrencemalbrough1173 Well, there was a time when Bob Fosse wanted to be the next Fred Astaire. And Jackson was undoubtedly influenced by those who choreographed his performances as a child. He did as many dancers do, took his inspiration from a variety of sources. But it's impossible to deny that some of his movements are named for Fosse, and are taught in classes of the Fosse style.
One of the most amazing pieces of editing I have ever seen! The melding of Jackson's music and song with the Fosse dance moves so effortlessly makes it seem like Fosse choreographed his dances for "Smooth Criminal."
Brilliantly and exceptionally done.
That. Was. GREAT!!
Sharp editing. Nice.
BEYOND FIERCE!! Thank you for creating this amazing tribute to 2 incredible artists!!
Please add my thanks to this long list of grateful admirers!! I only discovered this now ( 4/13./2019) and its as relevant now as it ever was! A fabulous tribute to so much phenomenal lost talent that we all miss and mourn! THANK YOU!
Love Bob Fosse's choreography. I especially love those crisp clean moves, no sloppy ones! Put a cap on, and I'm in love! 💜🦋💜
This is GENIUS WORK you did' Bravo'
Just saw this for the first time. It's beyond awesome and is now my favorite video on RUclips.
Aww! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
OMG!! This is AWESOME!! It is so very well edited. I watch it every day! The music chosen - the dancing. I love Bob Fosse and Michael Jackson. You make it seem as if Fosse actually choreographed just for this song. As Johnnythefirst says - Insanely well edited.
It is not the edit, it is MJ that always copied Fosse.
Can't get enough of this video...
Bob Fosse is one of the world's best choreographers this videos demonstrates that.
Incredible!!!! What a man can do in choreography history... Fosse
That is TERRIFIC!!! I absolutely loved it! Thank you for doing this!
Well done. Smooth Criminal works beautifully with the Fosse choreography. Excellent job in editing this. Thank you!
Wonderful Fosse❤❤❤
This is my favorite dance video of all time
One of the most brilliant things I've ever seen!
If you've ever watched the documentary "This is It" you may notice several classic Fosse moves incorporated into Michael's choreography.
Wow! I love this! Bob Fosse and Michael Jackson? This is magic!
Thank you so much!! ❤️
This is just wonderful! Thank you for sharing it!
Wonderful, wonderful compilation! Fosse was pure genius. Find him as A Snake in the Grass in "The Little Prince". Best thing in a great, quirky little movie...
Also Michael is on record stating this is his fav movie
Sammy Davis Jr, Fred Astaire, James Brown, Bob Fosse, Charlie Chaplin, and even John Travolta in Grease were all huge influences on MJ.
I will say, there’s influence from Bob Fosse’s snake in the grass dances, in The Way You Make Me Feel, Bad, and obviously Billie Jean.
GREAT compilation!! Well done thank you.
Kiss Me Kate, brilliant movie and the birth of Bob as a choreographer. The dance scene in question is probably the greatest ever.@cardona89
Bob Fosse style was mesmerizing. I went to see Dancin' twice. It's the type of show that be permanently on Broadway.
Absolutely amazing! I love Bob Fosse and the way you have syncopated the clips to the music in fantastic! Fantastic!
bravo bravo bravo, bellissimo, grazie 1000, BOB FOSSE is the big Maestro
This was really great!! I could watch Bob Fossie dance all day. He was fantastic. So was Tommy Rall, I love that dance number with both of them dancing. Spectacular!!!!
Thank you so much!! That dance number with Tommy Rall is one of my absolute favorites too.

Finally!!!!!! A perfectly edited dance video. This is one great piece of work!!!!
Perfect this edition. Congratulations!!!!
Simply wonderful!!!!!
I' m just being introduce to Bob Fosse's work never heard of him until now 2019! I see so much of Fosse in Michael Jackson! I thought maybe he was copying off of Liza Manilli! Just got hip to Gwen Verdon too boy these two had style! Love the way they move!!!
Now you know where a lot of singers get their moves from :)
CHICAGO the musical and Broadway show has great Fosse choreography.
It's called taking inspiration and Michael was mainly inspired by James Brown :)
Such editing! You see Fosse's skill and style through time. You also see where MJ got a lot of inspiration. Sublime.
That was simply amazing. Makes me want to get off my ass and learn every dance routine! Bravo!
This is so good it hurts.
Brilliant work! I have watched this at least twice a day for the week that I have been aware of it. I am a huge fan of Bob Fosse's work and was awestruck by your appreciation for the subtle nature of his choreography. Thank you.
Very ingenious.
You did a great job on this! What a lot of work that took. Thanks, enjoyed it : )
I agree with you
@hardballget thank you so much!! I remember that dance scene since the first time I saw it, over 50 years ago!! unforgettable. tks
Love this... I could watch an extended version all day.
Masterfully edited. Beautiful selection!
Great tribute to a great human being. :D Great job
Wow. Terrific compilation! Love it.
I really love what you've done with the song and the clips. I've always been a fan of both Bob Fosse and Michael Jackson. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing.
Bob Fosse was a dancer and a top choreographer he arranged the dancing for the movie Cabaret. If you want to see all the moves Michael Jackson learned watch Bob Fosse in a musical movie from the 1970's called The Little Prince, alternatively there is on RUclips the clip of the movie featuring Bob Fosse singing and dancing to a song called "A Snake In The Grass" his dancing is up there with the legend Fred Astaire another who Michael Jackson idolised.
Lin Joy Yes. There are a lot of dance moves in these clips Michael Jackson used in Thriller. Bob Fosse was one of Michael's heroes.
he did not copy he was influenced by it improved it and made it his own. and Michael used to do his own chorography with his team.
Michael also told a story with his dancing like human nature is a good example.
You superstar this video is actually amazing!
This is a great peice of work - smoothlessly done. You should be very proud of this
This was excellent..the music, timing..awesome!!!!
Wow. Fantastic stuff, awesome editing.
Awesome editing skills. By synching these clips to an entirely different music genre, you"ve given the dancers more soul than they might have even achieved if they danced to this music.
great video!
This is truly fantastic. I read something somewhere about Mr. Fosse's influence on Mr. Jackson so it's a perfect marriage of song and visual. I do take issue with the inclusion of the movie "Chicago" 's choreography since this was not nor even inspired by Mr. Fosse's workout and I hated that movie. I also disagree that you were stupid for choosing this project to learn Final Cut Pro because you did an amazing job...
Bob Fosse staged the original "Chicago" on Broadway for his wife, Gwen Verdon. So, to say that the film version of "Chicago's" choreography had NO INSPIRATION from Fosse seems overstating. How could it not have had at least some inspiration from Fosse? I've seen several stage versions and the film. They were all inspired by Bob Fosse, whether he cared for them or not.
wow! incredible editing! you did Fosse proud.
Great edit job!
Awesome Compilation!
buen trabajo!!!!!! ........... hace mucho que no disfrutaba un vídeo...
un buen homenaje a Bob Fosse.... vi la mayoría de las películas , son grandiosas....mi preferida "El Principito"
MY LEFT EAR jammed to this like no other
Exceptional presentation. You are so talented.
Bob Fosse was one of the coolest & best dancers that ever lived.
