@@santiagoferrari1973 I could be wrong but I don't believe nsima competes anymore, he's a jiu-jitsu competitor now. Which probably means he works on flexibility a lot more.
Coming from powerlifting, this position was incredibly challenging to adapt to when I started weightlifting. It really does takes time (and also intentional effort).
This was an EXCELLENT teaching methodology for a fundamental Weightlifting movement! This video made me even more regretful that I missed the chance to work with you when I was in Austin last year! Really enjoying these types of analytical videos, keep doing them!
It's great to see tutorials from Zack again. However, Nsima is an exceptional athlete with really developed mobility and strength. We would ideally need a regular person comparison.
@@harrypoderskis that comment was clearly a hate comment disguised as "constructive criticism" on a video i really enjoyed and zack clearly worked hard on. I think my response was justified
Been looking for a decent overhead squat method to get the necessary mobility in my mid back so I can actually start working on performing the movement. Thanks guys for this video. Please create more like this.
Awesome video. I'm a middle-aged guy with zero oly experience and one badly damaged (loose) shoulder from motorcycle racing earlier in life... got a 10kg technique bar and some plastic technique plates. Following your videos to see if I can carefully learn some of these techniques. It's a fun challenge. Really appreciate you taking the time to create this content.
This is great stuff, thanks for posting! These tips are useful and educational. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Have you ever used any of these custom meal plan tools? I got one from Next Level Diet to help me add some muscle and I actually like their plans. Was just wondering if you've heard of or tried any of them yourself. Thank you!
Great video. I am new to this channel, but the tips in this video makes it super simple. Just starting ro learn the Oly lifts in late 40's but enjoy your page and Garage Strength.
Great content! Thank you very much for the tips, I've been thinking about starting proper weightlifting drills, workouts for a while and being from and in Bulgaria, there is many places I can go to find professional help, just lacking the time to do so. So this video is very much appreciated! Happy holidays and keep rocking :)
Mobility work for shoulders and traps. Time under tension with light weights, really focus on bracing your core and staying tight everywhere. It takes time to build strength in new positions.
I wonder what happens with the spine when we squat up and down overhead. I felt my spine curved in slightly more overhead squatting with empty bar than my working weights on back squat
Hey zack! Love the content. I think it’s an oversimplification to say that lifting shoes are artificial df. They do a lot more for the bottom position than ankle rom. Small changes in foot inclination change all of your joint angles especially the hips where it leads to decreased hf and increased abduction which shortens the working length of the femur and brings the center of mass further forward over the mid foot
I'm kinda tired of people using the title "teaching a bodybuilder" when teaching Nsima lol Of course he's also a bodybuilder but the dude's not human, he was created in a lab or something
It's to get people interested in the video. I know what a bodybuilder is, but I didn't know who nsima is until the video. For people not already interested in watching Zach's videos, they might skip a video of teaching a specific named person but may watch a video of teaching a specific kind of person
@@sergiocalderon6325 yeah I agree. I'm not actually mad, I just noticed there's a lot of these videos with him and he's just an athletic guy so he usually does pretty well
@@wccrispy Yes, but that allows you to have less dorsal flexion in the squat while effectively giving you more simulated dorsiflexion. Just think about it; the angle of the tibia to the floor is decreased with weightlifting shoes in the squat.
Yeah, I think the point is that they give you more *available degrees* of dorsiflexion compared to the starting position, but they do that by making your beginning position more plantar flexed, so it's just a matter of how much energy you want to put into phrasing it :D
What are your thoughts on teaching styles? I try not to teach people "what not to do". I feel like if your teaching someone something...it's just extra information. Information on what bad technique looks like. Rather don't waist extra brain cells on filling them up with poor technique.

Thanks Sensei Telander, gonna sprinkle this into my movements for a bit! Things worked well because you gave great cues 🤘🏾

Zach, I don't know what kind of clips get you the most views, but these technique coaching videos are great.
The Overhead Squat and building strength in those shoulder positions has been such a journey for me. Way harder than it looks.
.. truly.. i cannot get in that position with my shoulders..
First time I did overhead squats, my shoulders were sore for a week. It felt so good🏋🏼
The bottom up approach for the snatch is a great teaching tool, really liked it....Also Gerudo Valley theme was a nice touch at the end there! :)
Very inspiring to see these techniques taught to someone and he then proceeds to absolutely demolish the weights.

Nice one! Great stuff.
Really helpful thanks for this!
Very overlooked move! Reps of them hit!
I always felt an incredible tension in my center back with OHSs. Also i still start rocking/shaking at the bottom when i get heavy. Any tips?
Mobility work for shoulders and traps. Time under tension with light weights, really focus on bracing your core and staying tight everywhere. It takes time to build strength in new positions.
Your lower traps are weak. Do shoulder dislocates and practice OHS with less weight (less than an unloaded oly bar if necessary)
This is going to be tons of fun
Great video. I’m stealing all these tips!

Plantar flexion 😉
The weightlifting shoes do give you artificial dorsal flexion in the squat, if that's what you're trying to correct.
