Denon DCD-3000 A very unique player with 4 x PCM-1702 DACs, DAC Input (!) and balanced output. +More

This player was brought to me with faults of unreliable reading and tray that kept retracting. The reading, which was almost perfect in my tests might be helped with slight laser power increase (form its very low 0.06mW level) and the tray retraction should be dealt with by cleaning of the limit switch.
But what is interesting, is that this unit has list of features found in player in $2000+ category.
- 4 x Burr-Brown PCM-1702 laser trimmed, resistor ladder DAC ccips
- balanced outputs (which XLR connectors I plan to replace)
- digital inputs to the DACs; both Toslink and SPDIF
- absolute phase inversion
Quality built and with Sony KSS-240A laser mechanism, it is not an ordinary player.

​@@hear-net-au I really dont want to bother, but its like the player doesnt get the table of contents of the discs and just don't want to read any CD or CD-R first try.
Some months ago I managed to get it to read the cds by selecting any random track upon inserting the disk on the machine so it make it spin and it seems that way he got to read alright, once its set it will play the CD flawlessly from start to end or going back and forward between the tracks.
Now that method works but like with 60% success rate.
I opened it , cleaned the lil bit of dust it had (almost nothing), cleaned the lens also but nothing changed.

Could be something mechanical, like hardened grease at the beginning of the guides or the turntable being pushed in too far down and laser having difficulties in focusing. But KSS-213 being only $15, you could try getting a new one to see what happens. When replacing, use static electricity precautions (ground yourself and don't wear synthetic clothing).

i AM a first owner of a dcd 3000 and last year i had an issue with the tray not opening. IT has been fixed by the hifi dealer. I also use IT as a dac for my Marantz music streamer na-6006. in 96 i paid 1134 EURO for this incredible cd-player

I still haven't Been able to replace the XLR sockets. Just cannot find ones with the right size (they have to be longer than usual, because the PCB design). Also, the balanced output board mounts on them. But I am looking forward to seriously evaluating it and maybe keeping it and I always knew it had to have been expensive with such good parts and design. Thanks for the pricing info. Was it Germany or Austria?

@@hear-net-au No Netherlands. 2500 dutch guilders . That was equal to 2500 DM. Only the S10 was more expensive. The S10 has exactly the same internal components
