Just wanted to say, thanks for making these videos. I'm from New Zealand as well, about to buy my first telescope and it's that one you have in these videos exactly, so these have been a HUGE help. Can't thank you enough. :) Cheers mate.
+Jason Tennant Hi Jason. Glad it has been helpful to you! I've really enjoyed this telescope. I think it has been one of the best purchases of my life!
HI Ben I've been a amateur observer for over 45 years and use a vast array of equipment but I must say that balloon idea for the torch is a great tip .Why didn't I think of it? Not only will preserve dark adaption but it will also protect the torch from damp. Now where are those balloons?!
where in 2020 and I am 72 and I just saw. Mars Mars was unbelievable that looks like a UFO up in the sky and it just made me fall in love with guy watching. I have a couple of binoculars which I find very helpful different strengths and I have a travel scope I also have the 130 it's about 5 in dobsonian reflector I love it so much.
Very helpful one more time, your tutorial list is so rare here on youtube especially for dobsodian utilisation , collimation and stuff. Good video & audio quality ! Thank you very much for the job !
I've just bought my first telescope and about to have my first lesson in how to use it, but your videos are super interesting and helpful. I can't wait to get started. P.S. Where do you plug your hairdryer?
Hello Ben, Great video! One question, I went to my apple app store and could not find the Twilight app. that reds out the screen on your phone. could you please post a link to it?thanks !
I made the mistake of ordering the wrong collimator and I got the non laser kind. I'd like to learn how to use one but I can't seem to find a video that isn't 3 hours long and boring to explain how to use a non laser collimator. If you have time can you post one??
Hi Samantha, I'll have to get back into making some videos! I spent a year travelling and moved from New Zealand to Australia so I haven't had heaps of time for astronomy. I will get back into it though! Hope you figure out the collimator.
+BEREND VijfentwintigNulZeven Hi Berend, thanks! I bought mine in a market in Bangkok, but here is a link I found to basically the same type of laser pointer. www.laserpointerpro.com/5-in-1-100mw-532nm-midopen-kaleidoscopic-green-laser-pointer-pen-p-308.html
A perfect guide for dummies like me. Thank you.
Fantastic job Benjamin........saving people a lot of time with this information.
The best thing about Stellarium is that it is never cloudy. It maybe cloudy outside but not on Stellarium.

This video is 3 yrs old... Please do an update on your fav accessories
great info!
If you use the hairdryer you will create air currents in your scope distorting your view.
Andy Gray correct. you need to rest a scope. meaning that it needs to be untouched for 30 minutes to match the outside temperature.
Andy Gray he uses on the eye pieces not the telescope come on now 😉
Thanks i like your vids im usa
Sky map app works extremely well.... The star chart is cool and all but the sky map is the best

"Don't shine laser pointers into people's eyes"
Shines laser pointer into camera lens XD
And what photons of the laser light goes through your computer screen and into your eyes?

what diameter is your telescope?and what diameter did you get your nephews?
Hi Bonnie, my telescope has a 10" diameter and I bought 8" diameter for my nephew. The 10" is great, but a lot to carry around.
