I've been going through all of these videos after playing the levels- I do the playthrough to have fun, kill demons, enjoy myself- then I sink in 20-30 minutes trying to find the secrets XD I usually only get 1/3rd of them. It's amazing how well the textures blend in- a lot of modern games give 'secrets' away too easily, I now realize. You have to really search for some of these. It also freaks me out that half of them involve jumping right into the poison XD -On another note, I bought and played DOOM 2016 before I realized how much I wanted to experience the whole series, and to my surprise, I enjoy the first one better than the 2016 one (and 2016 is GOOD). I'm the head artist at a game design studio in Pittsburgh, and getting to look at how this game is constructed is an absolute treat. It really was revolutionary, especially the amount of movement and how the animated textures were applied to the '2.5D' visual framework of the game. I'm so happy I bought it :)

Thanks for posting! I couldn’t reach the second secret room near the yellow key area. It kept closing before I got to it. Realised it triggered open from the other secret area! I’ve made it now.
Yep, there are floor triggers a couple/few paces behind each of the secret panels, in addition to the trigger in the stairway leading up to the room. Each trigger affects both barriers in the room at the same time. Anyway, glad you made it. Doom on! :)
@@benthies9531 You'll need to 'Run' to get there in time (some players never knew about running/sprinting), so check the controls for your version of the game if you're unfamiliar. Start from the lower end of the stairway and try running up from there.

Albeit I prefer E1M7 this is the most iconic level of the first mapset. It redefined what classy gameplay and functional/aesthetic level design could be. The jump in quality from, the already very good, E1M2 is remarkable and the intricate secret section(s) were the icing on the cake.

I appreciate the vid but it'd be helpful it you had overlay text when the secret is found. I normally play source ports that notify you but I'm currently achievement hunting in PSX Doom on emulator without any way of knowing if I got all of them before ending the level. Any tips to make this easier? Thanks in advance.
If you can enable Closed Captions or Subtitles when viewing the video (click or tap the video and look for a little [CC] control icon), then a note should appear when each secret is found. Meantime, here are maps covering secret areas in every level: classicdoom.com/psxmaps.htm
@@daveweaver3886 Quite welcome. For what it's worth, most videos here are for the PC games and fully accurate ports. But many PSX Doom levels (especially in the 'Ultimate Doom' Episode) are notably different from the equivalent PC levels. So the webpage of PSX maps linked above might be more helpful.
Not sure which door you're referring to, but I'm guessing the two panels in the area where the yellow key is picked up. Those panels are initially accessible by crossing an invisible floor trigger in the staircase seen at about 0:11 in the video. The trigger makes the ledges in front of the panels drop down, granting access. Both ledges also affect each other when triggered.
@@ClassicDOOM haha thank you sir, i immediately figured it out when i went into the first door as you showed and figured it was timed for the second, i just needed to do it right. You can actually hear the audio queue when you cross the line, i found that impressive.
Yeah, part of the reason I leave the music off in these videos is to make it easier to hear those occasional audio hints coming from somewhere out of sight. :) Anyway, hope the video was useful. Cheers mate.
i always replayed this level many times and had no problem with the toxic bridge, i bought the new remaster that was released some months ago and the bridge doesn't raise for some reason, no ideia what i'm doing wrong.
At about 1:19 in the video there's a secret panel that's been opened. Go through and follow the path upstairs to a yellow-keyed door. This is in the southeast part of the map: classicdoom.com/maps/d1maps/e1m3.htm

The lower tip of the player's vertical axis must touch a Secret-flagged surface in order to get credit for it. Just re-checked the PS4 game, and it's possible to get 100%; So, odds are there was just a glitch when crossing one of those areas. See the video description for a map that might be useful if you wanna try again.
Aside from the pause button, if the video is too fast, click the gear (cog/sprocket) for *Settings* near the bottom right corner of the video, then click *Playback speed -> 0.5* Or if you just want to know where secrets are on any map in the game, see classicdoom.com/maps/d1secs/d1.htm
Oh, and a score of 99% Secrets on this level is definitely a glitch somewhere... There's 7 score-affecting Secrets on the map, and if you were to miss only one of them your max score would be 85%. Weird.
