I've been a NYR fan since 1976 and I saw all of the above come up when they where rookies.. Ron Greschner's # 4 needs to be retired and hung up on the rafters in MSG.. Oh, We Want Nick !! Shoot The Puck Barry Shoot The Puck ! The Herb Brooks era coaching The Smurfs was one of my favorite times as a New York Ranger Fan, RIP.🌹
I believe the Flyer player that Nicky could remember his name was Harvey Bennett. He bounced around from several teams in the NHL and and a couple of brothers who played in the league.
@@RB12377 He never went after Fergie. Fergie was Gilbert's check when he scored four goals in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on February 24, 1968. Gilbert had 16 shots on goal that night embarrassing the proud Ferguson who never forgave him! My late Cousin worked for the Rangers from 1965 to 1978 and Ferguson wrote about Richie on five pages in his book calling Richie his Best NY Pal! They owned racehorses together! I met Fergie many times from 1976 to 1978 with his cigar. Richie told my late Dad and I that Gilbert was dividing the team and undermining Ferguson! The team was split in 1976 when Ferguson arrived. The young guys were with Espo and the older guys were with Gilbert and Ferguson respected Esposito and did not respect Gilbert. Gilbert was there from 1960 to 1978 in parts of seasons and is the alltime Rangers scorer and yet was never Team Captain? What does that tell you? Espo was made Team Captain soon after joining the Rangers in 1975!
I would love to know the name of the guy Fergie wanted to retire and also the one Nicky alluded to who maybe wasn't the most liked guy on the team. I've met each one of these guys at various NY Rangers events and they were ALL so gracious and patient answering all my questions about those 70's and 80's teams. Great guys.
Fotiu Steve Durbano great video. Chadwick there better be a cop between nick n him...Durbano mooned crowd. Durbano rip. Fotiu scored that goal one handed vs isles at msg. ..
Those late 70's/early 80's teams were fun to root for, a great bunch of guys and different characters. Todays game is faster and more skilled, but as far as entertainment, its not even close to the 70's/80s hockey. I missed a family wedding for a Sat afternoon game against the Flyers, before VCR's. It was must see tv!!
After Nick got traded to Hartford and the Whalers were coming to town for the first time after the trade, the NY Post ran an interview with Nick where he stated that there was one Ranger with whom he was going to go after for whatever reason but he made it plain that he did not like the guy. I forget the exact words Nick used. I watched the game and nothing really happened except for a couple of minor altercations with Carol Vadnais. I don't it was ever made public who Nick was after or why.
In my youth I went to a lot of Garden games also. Based on my experiences in big arenas so far in my life, nothing has been more exciting than being in MSG with a packed crowd when a Ranger scores a goal!!
Nick beat the hell out of Holmgren and Wilson in Philly in 78/79. He also destroyed Cunningham in the 1978 preseason and broke his nose. Fotiu was 5-0 against Philly in 78/79. Then in the playoffs they won in 5 outscoring the Flyers 28-8. Fotiu went 3-0 in series against the Flyers in the playoffs winning 10-12 games outscoring the Flyers 65-32.
@@MrVictoria69 That must be it, the only guy with balls to fight Fotiu was Holmgren and he was 1-4 against Nick. His only so-called win was when he stayed in tight hugging Nick who just missed his jaw with a huge left and Holmgren fell on top of Nick. Fotiu beat him in NY in 1977, beat him in Philly in the preseason of 77 that continued up the runway, beat him in Philly in 78, and beat him in Hartford in 80 before Holmgren's WWE move in 83. Wilson twice allowed Fotiu to get right in his face in the 79 and 82 playoffs and took it and for good measure Fotiu beat Al Hill badly in Philly in 77 and Jim Cunningham in NY in preseason 78 breaking his nose. Cochrane was hiding behind 10 guys! Cochrane equals impotent!
It hear you. While Bossy was a superstar (and a Rangers killer), Duguay was not a bust and had a really good career. Duguay scored many big goals and was the only Ranger to fight Gillies, Hoyda and Plett. If I had his looks and skills, I'd have avoided anyone of those guys.
Bossy wasn't rated that high...he came from a very offensive qmjhl juniors. Duguay was good player. Same islanders Torrey drafted duds later on..its an unknown. Islesndrafted dineen..boutilier....dalgarno...mats hallin...
Islanders were far from the greatest just like gillies was a great fighter he was a really good player and a good fighter but he lost to Byers 2x Wilson gotten paradise split with terry O and a much smaller buffalo player

That was so funny and you guys should be on all the time. Those were classic stories.
Best thing I have ever watched on you tube
My favorite Nicky fight was when he kicked Behn Wilson's ass.
I met Nick and a bunch of ex NHL players at the bar and grill I used to work at when I was young. This was out on coram ny in the mid ninties
This is great

These guys bring back great memories from when I was a rabid NY Rangers fan.
Rod Gilbert is who Fergie wanted Nick to beat up.
I remember Fergie had a hard on for #7.
There’s rumors that he went after Ferguson

They should make a movie of Nickey.
Fantastic bunch of guys. Good to see you all.

I believe it was later revealed as Rod Gilbert.
Rod Gilbert
@@RB12377 Wow, I knew Fergie didn't like Rod but wasn't aware that he wasn't liked by other Rangers.

Wonder what ranger they didn’t like boxcar or beck

My childhood revisited. Loved going to the Garden. All four of these guys made for a great NY Rangers team to watch.

I forgot Nick didn't suit up in game 1 in 1979, the 3-2 OT loss. So he was 10-1 against the Flyers outscoring the Flyers 63-29.
Wonder what player they don’t like boxcar? Bubba ?
