One of my favorite things about your videos Tim, is that you actually take a few seconds to show the tiny little tips like holding the ruler a particular way to get a good line. Also, you aren’t afraid to show the little mistakes that everybody makes, even (especially?) the pros.
Can you use a spade instead of a drill bit? 7/8” bits get to be expensive quick and it seems that I can’t drill a 5”+ deep hole using the bit and my drill press.
Tim, when you drill the holes, why not start with a 7/8 bradpoint and drill a 1/8 or so spotface. Then you can use that center to drill a 1/2 spotface. Then use that center to start your small drill. This way when you come back to drill the larger holes each time you have a registration to start the drill and they will be perfectly centered.
Instead of measuring the distance from the blank to the square at 7:30, place a piece of straight stock (or maybe your 6 inch straight edge) vertically against the blank and bring the square to butt up to the straight edge.
Would it have been easier to mount the blank on the lathe, and put the drill bit fixed on the other side and then drive the blank through/past the bit? Similar to what I have seen machinists on a metal project? I have no clue, but my mind wanders around and thinks that might have been easier to accomplish. Just thinking out loud. Looking forward to the next stage of the video.
Hey Tim love the name (it’s my name too) getting more in to wood working and wood turning. Just got a question. What would be the best wood to use with a dark stain and a wood that won’t break easy??
Timothy Schneeberg I think the answer to this requires more questions first. What are you turning? Do you need to stain it or just need a dark wood that's easy to turn. What type of tools are you turning with?
You know that piece of metal that was on that ruler when you bought it (the thing in the background on the bench, as you showed using your fingers to find center), That can be used to find center!!!! Your welcome.
You inspired me with this video and I made this for a friend. I really look forward to what you’re going to put out next.

Can I do this with a spade bit ? I'm not willing to buy a drill bit.
Wood it be ok to use small clamps mid-way up & towards the top while drilling out the core?

Hi Tim can you send me a link where to buy the kit from please much appreciated Carl wood
Do you sell these cigars holders because I love to purchase some.
No, but Craft Supplies does. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/55/6539/artisan-Cigar-Case-with-Cutter-Punch-Tip-Kit
Hi. Where did you buy the kits please?
Could you please put a link on where are you buying the things you are using for sanding? I am tired of buying sandpaper all the time.
Tim, love your honesty! Love that Bocote, but wowsers, what a lot of waste material from this project?

I don't think a wood lathe does much except spin stuff.
Maybe you said and I missed it, but why wouldn't you drill the center holes on the lathe? Cheers! Chris.
You can do it but for such a deep hole it would be hard to securely hold it.

Nobody makes long cigar tubes. Couldn't find one to hold my 9" long La Unica's, so I finally just got fed up and made one out of PVC pipe.
I like that

Woodglut plans are amazing!
