Hello. I thought you would like to know that you helped me a lot here, in Brazil. First of all, the bouzouki is not a well known instrument here. We have the "viola caipira", a 10 strings guitar, tuned in a similar way to the bouzouki and the mandolin, but played in a very diferente style. I have been playing the mandolin recently and saw some vídeos of the irish bouzouki played in a folk style, wich I like since I was young. Well, that´s the beauty of modern times, I bought (thanks eBay) an irish bouzouki just to check the instrument, a very affordable one, and really loved it. It seems it will be the first in a row. Your vídeo came very helpfull to guide me in this new start, getting to know the resourses of the bouzouki. Maybe I will have to go a little deeper into the greek style, with this help you gave. Thanks!
Great excercise 👍🇺🇸 I started playing a mandolin but want an octave mandolin I think tuned the same for now but it's going to be a challenge to play tuned to GDAD OPPOSED TO GDAE
yiasou OUSAK.. yeah love playing the stas, pleasure to play.. I havnt had a teacher for the past year and have been learning on my own since then. My teacher was Yianni from the KOSMOS band.. excellent teacher and top bloke
hiya mate, thanks for the nice comment... they are not cheap this one cost me $3.5K but is pro quality instrument, but you can buy cheaper. I will make a recording with my six string bouzouki soon, it is tuned differently and has a different sound, more old skool.. the last exercise im not sure where it originated, I got it from my old bouzouki teacher who got it from another bouzouki player.. as for picks, I use 4 different types, they each make the bouzouki sound a little difft
What is the difference between the picks? I tend to only use one. Could you recommend any one in particular. Also, if I could ask, did you ever make that 6-string video?
Hi! I ordered myself a bouzouki that will arrive in a couple of days. I chose a 6-string. But I'm afraid it was the wrong decision. As I am mostly inspired by Johan Papaconstantino and other modern / folkish Greek music. Would you recommend me to send the 6-string back and order a 8 string? I have good musical sense and play the piano and drums. But my theoretical knowledge about keys and tuning (chromatic etc) is very little.
Hi mate... Congratulations on your bouzouki if I had known more about rebetika when I started and how much more fun they are to play I personally never would have bought an 8 string bouzouki.. You can play all modern songs both an 8 or a six string but only rebetika on a 6, if I were you I would keep it for sure..
@@aussiebouzouki Hi from the Netherlands! Thanks for responding. I ended up cancelling the string 6 and buying an 8 string twice as expensive. But I’m super happy I did. I love the bouzouki even more than I thought I would. I’ll check your videos for tips.
@@floorvandervrande4659 all good mate and you never know. As i mentioned my first was the 8 stringer which I still have, but my bouzouki journey took me to rebetika music and it ended up the Greek music i truly love. If you get some time check out Markos Vamvakaris, and if you like that check out his autobiography.. Rebetiko music was born from pain and suffering, like the blues... anyway congratulations on your bouzouki, i hope it give you many years of joy
Nice bouzouki man,i love that intsrument very much and i want to buy some, can u tell me how much cost your bouzouki, cause its very beautiful, and can u tell me what type of pick do u use.....the last exercise isnt from rock discipline by John Petrucci??
Do you pluck each string separately or in pairs in the first part of this exercise. It is not very clear how to pick or pluck. Thanks. I ordered a bouzouki from Crete shipping to California.
My bouzouki came yesterday, this video I will defiantly use! Thank you!
Thinking of starting bouzouki very soon, I will definitely look at your videos. BRAVO!
Great video I just bought my first one. Thanks for sharing your teachers tips

Hello, when playing bouzouki, you always pluck in pairs. We never ever pluck a single string, except if we want to experiment.
