I believe I watched this video a year ago. I became envious because I couldn’t have this set up and didn’t have the finances to have the setup I wanted. I’m watching this video a year later. I still don’t have the fancy multi cam look and fancy lights. But I came a long way and I’m thankful and content of where I am. Jesus loves you more Ben 🙏🏽

New to podcasting...I have a few questions. How are you recording long form videos with the sony cameras? Do they force you to stop every 30 minutes or so? Are you having to piece together clips? Do you record the whole video ? Are you recording the whole podcast on the phone as well? Are you cutting down the footage for youtube shorts / tiktok in editing software or just on the phone? Thank you in advance!!!! Love the vid!
The newer cameras don’t have the record limit. I sync my footage and audio in post I sometimes record the whole thing in my phone too, just depends on if I plan to repurpose it for short form vertical
I absolutely love this. It’s extremely straight to the point and so much easier for me to grasp when learning how to light my set and achieve performance with my equipment. This is wonderful, thank you. Ps: Lovin the hat!
Here’s a budget key light: ruclips.net/video/1KempxwpwFk/видео.htmlsi=ky9mwxIkDkFtJAS0 For the background tubes you could do this as a budget option: ruclips.net/video/aHskXN-yGso/видео.htmlsi=D_aKXmQcGSmwp2p0
Awesome video and setup! How do you sync all the camera angles to match together along with the audio???!!!! I always thought you had to hit record on each camera at the same time for them to match up 😂
@benjohnsoncreative even after clipping your videos from muktiole cameras, or will you rely on editing to line the audio back to certain frames to get back on track.
I sync the full clips (before cutting anything out). As I begin cutting things out I cut all the way through all clips and audio, Final Cut’s magnetic timeline makes it so I don’t have to drag anything back or realign clips with audio
1st time here, excellent video. I started a podcast 3wks ago, dont know alot but i just started. I record on my pjone upload to buzzsprout and podcastle then to youtube for video. Have a monocaster machine but dont know how to work it yet. I'll just doing this way until i learn better or get help.
This is a great video! Can I ask why two different camera types are used for side angles? As a beginner podcaster, I am looking to buy the Sony ZVe10 and wonder if two of the same cameras would be sufficient to capture side angles? I would love a video outlining more budget friendly camera gear for us beginners. Thank you!
I noticed you use the Shure MV7 as your mic, my question is, do you use a cloud lifter with your zoom H6 device or no need for that? And my second question is, do you use a camera switcher or do you record all angles then edit them post production?
I use the MV7, no cloud lifter needed! (But pro tip: buy the Shure sm7b POP FILTER, it is only like $15 and works much better than the stock mv7 one) I record the angles separate then sync it in post and do my cuts
Thanks Ben for all your great tips! I'm setting up a video podcast in my small home studio and I'm looking for a small table that can have 2 to 3 people seated. What's the table you're using in this video? Thanks
What color profile is best for shooting podcast. Because slog3 takes very long time to color grade and everything. So I am thinking that the podcast may not need that high dynamic range. So what do you suggest? which can be a best color profile for a video podcast?
I have a Sony A6400 with a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens, and I’m planning to start shooting talking head videos indoors. I’m considering replacing the Sony A6400 with either the Sony FX30, Sony A6700, or Sony A7C II, but I’m totally confused about which one to choose. I haven’t shot any videos yet. Should I upgrade the camera and lens now, or wait a few months until I build a base audience for my RUclips channel before upgrading?
I’m always a fan of using what you have to start with and then upgrading as time goes on. Do you freelance or create anything with your current set up?
Ben, what do you do for monitioring audio while recording? It looks like maybe you don't, do you just check to make sure levels are good before hitting record? What would you do if you wanted both people to be able to monitor with headphones during the entire recording session? Does the Zoom H6 allow for that, or would you suggest another recording device? Thanks!
I don’t monitor I just look at levels, if you want to monitor the zoom h6 has an audio out, you could use a splitter cable with it but you wouldn’t have separate monitor mixes for each person
Thanks for the response! My wife and I are starting a podcast, and ideally I'd like to have us both be able to monitor audio with individual mixes. I'm thinking of going with the Zoom Podtrak P4 instead of the H6 for that reason. Thanks for all you do, I'm getting a lot out of your videos!
But the Sony A7iii stops recordering after like 20 mins, do the other Sony cameras do that too? Seems like you should be using something that can roll for a couple hours?
just like I said this isn’t the perfect set up but it works for me. The best camera is the one you have on you 😎 newer Sony cameras don’t have the 30 minute record limit
Do you have any suggestion on budget cameras? We have a 3 camera setup but are using a GoPro and two c922, the quality just isn't there but we don't want to break the bank.
Great video… I have a question about the audio subject… I am planning to build 2 gaming setups in a gaming room (me & wife) We both are using hd58x headphones. i use rode podmic with a goxlr and she’s using samson q9u with scarlett and dbx 286s preamp What should I consider to prevent my voice to be picked up with her mic and vise versa Any advice ?
I’d look into noise gates and careful positioning of the set ups. If you still have issues you could try hanging a curtain between the set ups to deaden outside noise
By default you can do four, but it has a separate attachment you can get to add two more lines, so technically 6 total It is a instrument cable/xlr input
Thanks Ben! I’d like to figure out a solution for travel video and podcast video without overheating. I was liking the zve1 or a7c2 any takes ? Or will Both overheat 4k24?
It’s not ideal, since this video I’ve actually sold my A7iii and plan to upgrade to either the A7iv or a newer camera (there are always rumors about new Sony cameras!)
If I wanted 3 camera angles, do I need to connect all three cameras to a zoom recorder or is just one camera that needs to be connected then just sync all audio to video when editing?
No cameras need to be connected, only the microphones to the zoom recorder, then you can sync everything in post. Most editing platforms have easy to sync options. Here's a vid on how I do it: ruclips.net/video/YHNksm7zCug/видео.html
