I’m blown away, overwhelmed & slightly emotional about how this video has been received. At a time where we’re all re evaluating our priorities, I’m so happy that my dad & I decided to do this. Dad - If you ever decide to come out of retirement the door is open for you to have your own show. Thanks for everything, love you loads.
A great guy and a great role model. You are very lucky to have such a fantastic father. Greetings to you both from Thailand and stay safe in these uncertain times.
Lee, you guys are a great inspiration around the world ( all the way over here in the US ) and the main reason I personally got back into playing in 2017 after taking a break in 2012. I look forward to your guys uploads every day and hope you, your family, and Andertons staff are staying safe at home and getting a good break! Thanks for sharing this awesome look into your family history and legacy of Andertons! Cheers man! Also, make sure to check on Pete every now and then while he's locked down at the shop 😉 he seemed to be going a lil whacky the last video 😅😂
Dad is way cooler. I am 62 and he seems younger than I. He balances that bottle of water on his knee as if it were a bottle of whiskey. You know Lee has heard all of his shit before but laughs like its all new.
Ive had a rocky relationship with my father, havnt spoken to him in close to 9 years! after watching this, with eyes full of tears, Ive decided its well time to catch up! Thank you Lee, and thank you Admiral!!!!
Dad-son relationship. Most difficult and important one for a guy. But what can we do? I I guess forgive the old men and ourselves for whatever and thank them for bringing us here. They did what they could and knew.
You get ONE LIFE....ONE FATHER....get on it dude....throw pride aside....talk to Jesus....ask HIM to soften your heart....HE will...my pops is my best friend....I’m sure yours loves you very much
He will never equal his dad who has the classic manner of speaking in the British accent that is super expressive and makes everything sound better than it is.
Brilliant stories, love this video. Sounds so much like my dads early music exploits. Great to hear - keep these videos coming, they are entertaining through lockdown.

As an American, I must say it's almost too relaxing to listen to older British men talk. They fade in and out a bir, raising and lowering their voices as they speak which is a bit distracting for me. I had to replay this video a few times to hear and understand some of the softer bits.
Honestly I entirely agree. This guy really reminds me of Brian May as to how they tell stories of "the good ol' days" and it's so fascinating to me. Funny to see that Lee's dad and Brian had a similar upbringing! London with dad's who loved building things because they had no money!
Lot's of practice. They have better stories to talk about as well. Rock instruments were just coming into vogue and he was a pioneer. Lee has it easy in comparison.
The Admiral and the Captain, what an epic interview. A massive lesson in doing the right thing - or things - at the right time. One of the best videos ever and not a minute too long. More fathers need to be like this.
Dear Lee, how lovely to see your Dad again! It's been at least 25 years since I last saw him (maybe more!). Come to think of it he would have been the same age you are now! Please give him my best and congratulations on your continued success! Many thanks Warren
Lovely to see the rapport between you two and to hear the whole story. Pete, you and I go back to the beginning at dear old Harry Webber’s shop and I well remember giving you all the Premier posters I had in the car to make Stoke Fields look busy as you had so little stock when you started. Remember your mum and Harry with great affection. You guys can be truly proud of a great achievement....well done !
I never had the opportunity to do that much with my dad. He passed away of cancer when I was 11. 38 years later, I can still remember all I knew about him to the very sound of his voice. To hear you talking with your dad, you following his footsteps, and just the stories. Wow, what an honor for you. So cool. God bless you both!

But at 2:44:46 i have to say, "this video is far too short" Thank you, I'm 66 and I'm pretty sure I won't look that good when I'm 74, but I do have a great relationship with my son. Fascinating video so glad I took the time watch it.

You could put up a video that explains the secrets of the universe and how to make a million dollars in 5 minutes, and some happy asshole would give it a thumbs down. In this case, it's either teenage guitar players who have a 5 minute attention span, or middle age guitar players who never grew up. Fortunately the vast majority of viewers of this channel are smart and appreciate what Lee has done with this awesome channel.

My father too was a piano and organ player. He also was a policeman for 25yrs and moonlighted at Shafers piano in Silverspring Maryland. Just loved this video. I've been a fan of Andertons videos since the beginning. This was a great watch. Thank you.
Easily the greatest Captain Meets ever! So great! A history lesson. Got to learn about a great man that I hadn't known before. Got to learn more about the Captain and Andertons. Got a bit of an unintentional inspiring motivational story (be kind, work hard and just look at the amazing Legacy you can create). And had a bunch of laughs! Chuckled at the Admiral and then laughed even harder every time I heard Pete laughing in the background lmao Oh, and actually long enough for a change 😉
This has been such an emotional watch for me, I am 64 and am the son of a self made man via the family business route and so many things your dad has talked of remind me of that classic father son relationship. I am honoured to be a customer and I have benefited from your customer approach, wishing you both all the best and thank you for this unique insight.
Man, what a video that was. Lee, thank you for what you do and for making Andertons such an amazing place to shop. Peter, thank you for starting it all in the first place and helping to create one of the best musicians' stores not only in the UK but the world. Also, Peter comes across as the kind of guy who would be awesome to have a few pints with at the pub.
From the mention of being in a band as a young teen with Peter Green, to the presentation of the Harmony H75 (which I may or may not have cried during), this was worth EVERY MINUTE! And it's definitely the longest RUclips video I've ever watched. But man, it brought me down my own memory lane with my dad and with the music store my musical journey began in. And I feel awful for the miserable sh!ts who couldn't help their despicable selves and hit the 👎🏻. Those poor, pathetic souls. Thank you!
Amazing to listen to the stories and history. Nearly 3 hours passed like 10 minutes. Riveted to the seat watching. Your dads an amazing guy and glad he has kept his direct non PC ways. Real star of the show!
My wife and I traveled to London with friends last October, and the 2 of us went to Guilford to visit Anderton's store. I made up some excuse about wanting to see Guilford Castle, but my wife knew better. We were truly blown away by the staff. They were incredibly informed and helpful . I understand why they wone the Customer Choice award at NAMM.
What a great story. I can’t tell you how important Andertons TV is to my well being. I’m from Canada and have yet purchased anything from Andertons, but I have purchased many things from my friendly neighbourhood music store because of you guys. I think the music industry owes Andertons and Lee (The Captain) much gratitude. I also think that Danish Pete deserves a pay raise from Andertons and Fender. ;) Keep up the great work guys. I really appreciate what you’re doing. Cheers.
In 15 years from now you will look at this program and think to yourself " I am so glad I sat down with Dad and did this." It is heartwarming to watch. I lost my Dad 20 years ago and would love to have had a video of his memory's . Treasure it mate.❤️
9:42 To answer Pete's question: The producer who did Telstar by the Tornados was Joe Meek. Very fun interview, we need more Pete in this channel. cheers
Well this is a heartwarming video. My father and yours would have been around the same age, 73, sadly he passed seven years ago. He bought me my two first guitars, a cheap acoustic and a solid Yamaha electric starter pack few years later back in 2008 when I was turning 15. He wasn't a musical person himself, but he was supportive and never told me to turn my volume down, hehe. I miss him every day, make sure you hug your pops extra hard when these strange times subside.
Dear Captain, Thanks so much for sharing this, I'm a contemporary of your fathers, he reminded me so much of my own experience in taking my fathers company forward. We shared the same Nat West experience. I had been a guitarist , playing the same circuit of London clubs and my first guitar was a Harmony sovereign. I now collect Martins , Fenders and Gibson's, (pride of place is a 1941 D28.) When your store re- opens please let me know I should love to visit!
Great video Lee and a period I know well as I had a similar journey to your dad working at Jones & Crossland in the early 70's in Birmingham. Eventually bought the business in 84 & would meet your dad at dealer events for the likes of Roland & Simmons. I seem to remember him at an event for Yamaha held in Monaco, all very glamorous:) Great Story & my has he aged well! Sold my store to Carlsbro in the 90's but had a brief return in 2004 when I started World Guitars which the late Jeff Pumfrett bought from me in 2008. My best wishes & regards to both you and all the best in these unbelievably difficult times.
I bought my first guitar from JC's. It was, is, a left hand Gibson SG. I bought it new in about 1973 but it was made in 1966. I still have it, $$$$$ ??? Maybe it was you that sold it to me. Thanks for that if you did!
Ok - when I started watching this I hadn't realised it was almost 3 hours long. When it finished watching I couldn't believe almost 3 hours had passed. Absolutely hands down one of the best things I have watched on RUclips. Thanks for letting us all in. Fantastic, insightful and entertaining. If he hasn't already done so Peter needs to write a book and do a TED talk. Thanks Guys.
You may not realize how special this video is right now, but you will always have this to look back on and enjoy the stories that were shared. I lost my dad 18 months ago and would have loved to have him in a video sharing stories from years past. Well done and congratulations to you both on your successes!
That was utterly fantastic, could listen to that man tell his stories forever and all of us join Lee in thanking Mr. Anderton for his contribution to the music community because I am sure he has in one way or another influenced more people directly or indirectly than he can ever imagine.
Such an interesting conversation, I was drawn in from the start. What a legend of a dad you have lee. I think he’s very proud of you and how you’ve brought the business forward. Really well done.👍❤️
Have been following for years and been in the store many times but never commented before. This is probably the best video you've made to date! Well worth the past few hours. Shows why you've been so successful.
I saw this vlog in my feed, noted the length - 2h:44m, you have to be joking! Sunday afternoon I decided to watch it in 20 minute chunks but I was so fascinated that I watched the whole thing, occasionally picking up my ukulele. Andertons really need to get behind the Ukulele, the ultimate introduction to string instruments for young and old.
What a fantastic interview. I can see where the Captain gets his cheerful, enthusiastic, conversational disposition. The Admiral's such a great storyteller. Good stuff!
This might be my favorite episode, and it certainly has the best like-to-dislike ratio I’ve ever seen on RUclips. It’s also touching that Lee’s dad was much more interested in the old photo (history) than the beautiful vintage guitar that he was gifted.
God damn Captain, where to start. Just sat through all of that in one sitting and enjoyed every minute. What an absolute joy to watch. It completely reinforces my belief that as a musician of any level you get to be part of a wonderful family that just lives for the music. I can't thank you and your dad enough for being so honest and open and letting us all in. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you \m/
Fun fact about the instrumental 'Telstar' mentioned 9:33 (producer was Joe Meek btw) is the rhythm guitarist on the track was George Bellamy father of Matt Bellemy of Muse.
My wife and I really enjoyed your story " "Lee and Dad"...so beautiful to see two men, Dad and Son discuss Family History...we need Andertons ' USA" store(s)...your different and there are many Vintage Stores but G.C. sucks and Andertons Rocks..do it in the USA...we need you Blokes!
So interesting watching Lee and his dad talk about the history of Andertons, I could easily watch this for 2 hours and 44 minutes...oh wait, looks like I did! Great video! Thanks Lee.
Really lovely watching this. Reminds me of my old man talking about the 50's/60/70's music scene in Australia and how he and friends played gigs all over the place. They never amounted to much but the tales of the people he mixed with.....all the boys from The Easybeats, Masters Apprentices, Billy thorpe and the Aztecs, The Atlantics and later the boys from AC/DC all sitting in our house over the years. I was lucky to have a 'hack' old bassist as my father to influence my music exposure.
Wow that was a trip down memory lane. Born in Guildford in 1958 and still here. Bought my first electric in the early 70s from the Stoke Fields shop - a Columbus Les Paul copy. Also bought my first proper amp - a WEM ER40 with 2x12 cab. I certainly remember Harry in the shop. I also hired some PA equipment for my first gig from the small shop across the road (perhaps that was the original store). That would have been 1975/76. The gig was at the hall in West Clandon opposite the Onslow Arms (where my current band played quite recently). Recruited Peter our bass player via the notice board (I think the advert said something like "own teeth and private income preferred"!). So still a customer after all these years and fascinating to hear how it all started. And yes, Lee, your dad is correct about the Guildford accent - more of a Hampshire burr, but not heard so much these days. Had forgotten about the North Street shop!
What an absolutely amazing episode this is. Your father has had an amazing life and you can hear it in his voice how much he enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Great job Lee
I started watching this episode at 1am, near 4am it ended and I was captivated until the end. Absolutely fantastic Lee, having been self employed my entire working life from a gardener to owning a cycle shop, I can relate to so much of this, it's not a job you ever switch off from at the end of the day. By far the most enjoyable "programme" I've seen all year. Thank you Lee and Lee Dad!
In my opinion, this is a prime example of a fantastic history lesson. First-class story-telling, the occasional joke, and really engaging. Thanks, Admiral Anderton!
What a cool dad, i have no one in my family that was musical before me but i love listening to friends parents who were in bands back in the day., by the way i watched the whole thing. Great!
Just finished the entire interview in one go! Absolutely fascinating hearing about the history of Anderton's. Best Captain Meets ever! Mr. Anderton is an entertaining story teller and a cool guy. I appreciate and identify with his determination to not repeat his difficult relatinship with his father with his son. Sometimes in life we learn the right way to be by being shown the wrong thing. Lee, thank you so much for sharing this engaging conversation with your dad with us all. You both are so proud of each other, and that is so nice to see.
I had to watch the entirety of this in segments throughout the day, but, I gotta say: it’s worth watching the entire thing. The history of Andertons is actually incredible. Also, what an amazing time capsule piece this interview will be years from now! Thanks for this.
Yeah, I had that problem when my twenty two year old girlfriend met my fifty year old father and subsequently told me that she found him extremely attractive!
Enjoyable and interesting watch. Mr Anderton is clearly a switched and savvy business man with his heart in the right place. It would complete the story for me even more to have just as detailed account of how internet retail, and the RUclips phase contributed to the Anderson's growth. As an Aussie I know of say Mannys and Guitar Centers, but feel an personal attachment to a famous store in a place called Guildford run by a character called The Captain who exudes enthusiasm for music and gear that is contagious (maybe not the best choice of words at the moment). Keep it up Lee you are a chip off the old block.

Well done and it is in good hands to keep it going, Lee!

By the stories your father must be in his 70's he looks like a man in his 50's,and his stories a gold.
mbsnyderc 63 or 64 considering he was born in ‘46, doesn’t look a day over 55
@@Kobejp8 If he was born in '46, he would be 73 or 74
He definitely looks young for his age though
Yes, Lee looks 30 and his dad 50. But in reality they must be 20 yrs older, if Lee was born in 1972
Easily the greatest Captain Meets ever!
Yes indeed @Hulk Slayer Could listen to this lovely man all day long. What a wonderful history he has created.
You can tell how much Lee looks up to his Dad. Sometimes I think the world needs more sons looking up to there Dad's!
True but don't underestimate the importance of grammar. Sons looking up to their dads.
Sometimes you need dad's to actually give a shit about their sons for this to happen.
World needs more dads worthy of being looked up to.

They're their there.
@@hughjass5156 Exactly what I thought!
From all the Anderton's videos this was by far one of my favourites. What a great Story.
I worked for this gentleman
a good few years ago, on a small week long project. Hasn’t changed a bit!
Amiable, erudite and genuine. A lovely man.
This has been such an emotional watch for me, I am 64 and am the son of a self made man via the family business route and so many things your dad has talked of remind me of that classic father son relationship. I am honoured to be a customer and I have benefited from your customer approach, wishing you both all the best and thank you for this unique insight.
The first time Lee hasn't had to interview someone. His dad was just on a roll.
Great storyteller
It was a great interview. I want his outfit too.
Now, that is a long one. But worth every second!
Admiral Anderton is like a wonderfully aged James Bond. How is the first we have seen of him, he is great!
Thank you!
Hear hear well said sir.
Guildford castle? Nah ... you could have used Hogs Back Brewery as a better excuse ;)
@@JonathanCooperGB Only if they have gluten free beer. :(
Outstanding....Your Dad is a legend....I cannot believe he is in in '70's.....Wow...
Cheers.
I purchased a Victory Amp from Anderstons from here in the US for that reason, a thanks for years of great material. This video being the best yet.
Agreed, best channel on RUclips
One of, if not my favorite Anderton's TV shows ever. It's great to see a dad and his son have a relationship like that. Well done!
Very fun interview, we need more Pete in this channel. cheers
“Pickled onion stabber” 😂😂👌 that’s a band name if ever there was one!
I can see the “POS” T-Shirts clearly in my mind. 😁
Love u'r Dad. I'm old, and can relate. Just in an American form.
your dad is a fascinating story teller. Great show
Well this is a heartwarming video.
Father and son moments warm my heart ❤️
What a gentleman!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder Captain Lee is such a nice guy!!!
Love the weight the gravity that your Dads words has on you. He must have been (and still)a great father.
Great stories and great sense of humour. Your dad seems like a top bloke Lee.
Need to start drinking after a while. Red wine.
Muse sucks
yayayaokoksure no one asked
@@yayayaokoksure their success tells otherwise
I mean, the puerile jealousy is quite evident in a statement made in that manner.
Real high brow dissertation on his irrational dislike of Muse.
Thanks Lee.
ikr?
Thanks, Admiral Anderton!
when andertons date and procreate they wear blindfolds to ensure there is no visual bias
Based on the Captain's wife, he has better luck at choosing women blindfolded than guitars.
Pete is prince Andrew's cousin.
your old man is a top bloke, great sense of humour, this interview is like an epic movie, nice one
What a cool dad, i have no one in my family that was musical before me but i love listening to friends parents who were in bands back in the day., by the way i watched the whole thing. Great!
Man... your dad seems like an awesome guy!!! Love this vid, long live the ANDERTONS!
Excellent video, Lee. Thanks for posting this. I totally agree with your statement at 2:37:45 - "playing music at its best is a spiritual experience".
I had to watch the entirety of this in segments throughout the day, but, I gotta say: it’s worth watching the entire thing. The history of Andertons is actually incredible. Also, what an amazing time capsule piece this interview will be years from now! Thanks for this.
i thought the same thing,,when lee's kids are older they can watch this and have a laugh for sure,,,and a history lesson too,,,
This was remarkable and thanks for sharing this amazing history. I got a little teary-eyed because I realized how much I miss my dad. Thanks again!
I love how Lee is nervous at the beginning. :-) The Admiral is very handsome :-)
Yeah, I had that problem when my twenty two year old girlfriend met my fifty year old father and subsequently told me that she found him extremely attractive!
Thank you Mr Anderson for sitting down with Lee and sharing with us your story, God Bless you!
Your Dad's stories are a treasure. Well done! Giving him the Harmony was absolute class
How does he look so young

Stuck at home working so over the course of 2 days i watched this entire, marathon video. Loved it, thanks for sharing. Great to hear the whole history of Andertons, as a small business owner in Florida I enjoyed hearing the ups and downs to bring a business to life. Well done and it is in good hands to keep it going, Lee!
What a wonderful story. You are lucky to have had the chance to capture your father's telling it for eternity.
This is without doubt the best video you have ever produced. Your father is a force of nature. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Lee. This is a fantastic story. Thanks for letting us see the Way Andertons has grown... Awsome 👍😆🎸🥁🎸🥁🎸

You're a great interviewer Lee - you give your subject the time and space to tell their story. It's becoming a lost art.
Best performance by the father of a Captain since Keith Richards.
Ive onky just watched this. What a thoroughly interersting chat! There's a real sense of the way the world has changed and the grit and courage of the man.
