I love the American TV reports, they capture the NTSC to Pal conversion from that era really well. All US TV used to looked like this on British TV in the 80s - kinda yellow and fuzzy!
"In January 2007, ISED stopped issuing licences within Canada for new television transmitters broadcasting in analogue.[1] All remaining analogue terrestrial television signals across Canada were scheduled to be shut down no later than 2022 under an ISED schedule published in 2017;[2] however, a number of analogue stations in smaller markets continue to operate as of December 2022.[3]" Do we know the status of these NOW?
I remember the opening credit sequence to this used to make us laugh like drains because it was so over the top. Now it's not that far off how things really are.
The Day Today and Brasseye. The absolute dogs bollocks. Me and my mates would watch that and be all nodding to each other, feeling the same thing "At last comedy that is trying to do more, trying to kick the establishment in the balls, as it so dearly deserves." An absolute godsend in the immediate post Thatcher era.
Im usually an excellent judge of character and i wouldn't hesitate to put down a beer and a joint with ya. I love genuine, down to earth folks. Subbed.
Nicely done intro. No need to ask if you guys "get" this. Kinda terrifying that since The Day Today and Brass Eye the news has become a LOT more like TDT and Brass Eye. If you can't get Brass Eye - watch it anyway just for the fun + give us a stoned synopsis of your reaction ;)
Good stuff. Just so you know, when they interview members of the public, they have no idea what's going on...they just try to see how "involved" the interviewee gets in the verbal madness :D
That's always been my suspicion but I've no idea how I came by the knowledge. A few years ago one of the producers did a 'behind the scenes' live show but I've been unable to find recordings. Does anyone know of good resources on how they made The Day Today, today preferably?
I remember when PC Plum in Balamory had his bike stolen, I think they contacted Lieutenant Horatio "H" Caine from CSI Balamory to find the culprit and retrieve it
This always reminds me of me and my housemates watching the verdict in the OJ trial...they suddenly cut from the main anchor to the story and my housemate said "SHUT IT MOIRA, I WANT YOU TO STOP" 😆
🤣, love your choices and reactions ! Can't wait for you to one day check out Aussie stand up Steve Hughes with his thought provoking view on "Political Correctness" , c'mon an Aussie talking about political correctness ! 🤣
That whole beginning of the video was from the Sinclair media group a conservative network of tv and radio. They have the local networks report all the federal news dictated by sinclair and re-read on the air.
Did ya note who the additional material is from in the credits..? On that, you should react to a half-hour special on Fr Ted.. 'Comedy Connections, Father Ted'
Intro - oh, goddam, shit in a bucket and tell 'em to suck it...Every time Chapman reincarnates in a new jail, his body count increases...An outtake on the DVD reveals that the no-one-died pool attendant is in fact disabled...imagine him in his wheelchair rolling around singing The NIght They Drove Old DIxie Down in female swimwear...This episode almost makes you miss Betty Double - but not for long. (The monarch can still annul the result of an election if the winning Party declares itself Republican and refuses to swear fealty - and the role of the police, army and navy is to defend the momarch against the so-called "government" and against the actual human population). First credits given to Bootsy Collins and now of course George Clinton.
Good reaction, but why on Earth do reaction channels keep removing music that has been free to use for decades!? The Planet suite is so far outside copyright, you can literally burn it to a CD and lawfully sell it for profit!
@@bradlucy How strange. Not sure the situation with appeal while posting videos, but if possible remind whatever human-donut that is working the controls at RUclips (likely automated) that the piece of music was from Holst's Planet Suite. He died in 1934 and there is a 70 year rule after death before work passes into the public domain. So from 2004 that piece of classical music has been free to use for everyone and should not have been flagged.
@Harbinger1978 Although the music is now public domain, that doesn't always cover a particular recording of it, to which someone may still own the rights.
@@jumbo4billion Fair point, but that also supposes that Chris Morris and producers said, well, we can have the free public domain recording, but, for no reason, let's pay for this recent, near identical version. It's unlikely.

Like Canada .. it still has the old system 👍
Me too. Rebecca Front as Barbara Wintergreen is brilliant. Love the neologisms like ‘elvocution’.

First full reactions I've seen to these. It's amazing how good this show still is. THIS IS THE NEWWWWWS

As a lifelong resident of Wabnasm, I can confirm that yes, it is a real town.
John Fashanu lives there, doesn’t he?
THIS IS THE NYOOOUUUSSE
The writers on this show include the great Stewart Lee and Richard Herring and of course Steve Coogan a real game changer on T.V.
I watched this when it first aired. It was my generations equivalent of Monty Python.

Jonathan Pie is the closest modem day to this I guess. Except it's not really satire
@@irreverend_ yeah, I just don't warm to it :/
Brass Eye was the best thing on telly at that time and well ahead of its time 😜
Great intro! It is a clown world out there in mainstream news. Please do the rest of The Day Today 🙂
I expect it's already been recommended: Brasseye. It's also by Chris Morris.
Yes, I found episodes on Dailymotion, but YT blocks them for some reason.

6:54 is basically EastEnders (1985-present) but set in a currency exchange shop, rather than an entire London neighbourhood centred on a square.
Eastenders meets El Dorado, that started around the same era as The Day Today.
I’m a Brit and I’ve been to North Bay! Ex-girlfriend moved back there from Toronto. I had fun there

I don't blame you for not getting the Christopher Biggins reference. Recently found your channel, good wholesome stuff.
Spartacus Mills is 2 minutes of the finest quality.
You'll have to watch the after-credits part of the war episode. It's so funny.

What are you trying to say with that opening B&L? Surely not something about the MSM having a script or agenda!🤣
Epic opening though!

Did they really try to copyright sting you for Jupiter? Either someone’s being overzealous or it’s run into copyright on the specific recording used.
Yes unfortunately
Can't speak for anyone else but I'd subscribe to the patreon for a Brass Eye run if RUclips is making it impossible here.
Yes, we would be willing to try it on Patreon 😁
