I have a bin for “book jail” in my kindergarten classroom in which i put books that kids faught over or books that were miss-treated or were not placed were they are supposed to go. I usually leave the books in there for a week, and then put them back in their regular bin.
I would do two “book quarantine” tiers on the cart! The kids might go through the books quickly if they’re shorter books or if they end up not finishing it.
In your reading area where you have that small white bookshelf you should switch out some on the books every week so it gives the kids something different to read and every week
I'm in the UK so not sure how old your kids will be. But i was thinking they might not fully understand quarantine? You could do a play for "book bath time" "book vacation" "book hospital"? So they know the books have to go away to be cleaned but its not a negative thing that they might not fully understand?x
Omg i loooove the burlap boarder its so new and refreshing to see something different! I love how different your room looks to other classrooms it has a very positive vibe!!
I’m not a teacher yet, and I’m not even studying elementary ed yet, but I’m a senior in HS and I definitely know I want to be a teacher. With all that said, I’m so glad I came across your channel!! Your classroom is beautiful, and I never even though about using matte finish over laminated paper!
Tip I’ve seen about putting up the paper alone: use a yard stick to smooth out as you staple. Also, using thumb tacks to temp attach in the corners First helps it to stay in place so you can use the yardstick method to staple in place.
You could do a book rotation once a month. Like fill the bookshelf and then every month switch them out with the other books in storage. That way the kids have something new to red every month.
For the Wayside School book or other books missing covers, you could try to find a high quality picture of the cover online then print it the same size as the book and laminate it then use clear tape to attach it to the book. Wayside School is 1000000% worth the extra work!
Scotch makes a book tape. Then I use clear contact paper to basically laminate the book. Also if the spine is broken- I try to use Elmers glue all in the spine and rubber band it until dry.
Everything is looking so good! An idea for the lower levels book is if you don’t think you will use them, you could always offer them to lower grade teachers for their libraries!
Nice to see the younger teachers so excited to get in and teach. Notice no talk of new guidelines or restrictions... Due to things going on... She makes me excited although our area isnt going back... So far. TFS
For the books that are ripped up or messed up on the rind, you could put cute washi tape over it and then put clear packing tape over that to seal it (because sometimes washing tape peels off and it adds another layer especially for younger kids)
One way you could fix broken books is you colorful duct tape. And because you have a big range of reading levels you could put one color of duct tape for lower levels and a different color for higher levels Or in dif colored baskets what you think😬👍❤
For the 3rd tier you could do a teacher favorites so that the students can read the books that you like. I would put that at the top so that they can see the books easily.
If you have any ELL/ESL kids or transfer kids from schools that may not be at the same level, it's good to keep some of those much lower level books. Maybe you could even gift them if you have too many to those kids to encourage them to read more at home? I used to be a refugee kids case worker and we never had enough of those lower level books. It can be discouraging for kids if they only have options that are grade-level if they're not quite there yet. :)
I really thought that the writing center looks good with the yellow pencils but will look great on the other side with the different color pencils. It ties in with all that is going on in your room better.
Oh my goodness, I just stumbled upon your channel and I love you! You are such a ray of sunshine!! I’m going into my third year of el. Ed. and am so excited to watch your journey!! Goodluck with everything! ❤️
Hi Lena! Is your School district not implementing social distancing requirements in the classroom? I’m not sure what the situation is in Arizona right now. Love the classroom setup so far!
Yes they are! Currently with our desks, it’s impossible because the desks fit two students! We are still waiting to here what the official plan of the school year is from our governor! ☺️
You could have the third tier be book donations. Like if the parents want to send books they don’t want or need anymore with their child to class so you could grow your library. Or you could use it for teachers favorites or books that the kids have been fighting over (like a “Book Jail”).
You can either do a lost and found books for the third level or have two level that are book quarantine because you may have more books in that section.
The third tier could be book recommendations/ book faves. Students could want to recommend these books to their peers and you could put them on display!
Hi Lena, you have such wonderful taste! I’ve never seen a classroom so pretty! Can you tell me where you got your alphabet pillow and paper sorter? The table is soo cute. I saw in your notes you did a DIY on it. Most classrooms have that area open with seats for the kids to sit in and put away. I love that your mom and sister contributed to your efforts. So sweet your mom found that globe. I was just as excited when my husband and I bought a globe for our children. I wish you the best of luck with the school year. Keep up your positivity and enthusiasm!
I put two book returns so then that is wear the books would go when the students are done reading. Then I am going to deep clean them everyday, also before they go back on the shelfs!
Do you use Eureka for math? I was a first year teacher last year and had no clue what to do with those whiteboard things you found, but found out they came with the Eureka curriculum for math! A bunch of lessons require students to use personal whiteboards, and they hold up the red side if they don’t understand.
Oh man! That sucks about the scrapbook cases! I have some from a few years ago that are still going strong. I almost bought some more the other day, but maybe quality went down on them!
@@lenamitzel If I remember correctly, Michael's put out their own brand of Recollections scrapbook cases and they tend to be a bit flimsier than the Iris brand ones that they initially carried. You can still get the Iris ones on the Micheal's website. I use one to hold all of my papers that I need to shred at the end of the school year. Happy teaching!
You need to make a list for your classroom set up video and then bins for your classroom set up video and Stages and name tags for there desk number and caddy number for your classroom set up video and then
Save those low level books and use them for guided reading, or for independent reading. You never know if you'll have kids that are really low. I've learned this the hard way before
I know you posted this a while back but I noticed you had a book called Pie I definitely recommend it. It has a plot twist at the end which changes the story, it’s amazing! Also it’s a chapter book.
In a lot of older schools many walls are are covered in cork. Otherwise drywall/wood work to staple things into also! Most homes and buildings in the states use drywall.
for the 3rd one you could do a piece of paper and it could say : I recomend the book ____ because _______. So then kids could go look at the sheet when they want something to read but don’t know what to read. If u did this u could also let them put the book in there or have another bin they can book the book in that they recommended on the price if paper! It is a good idea to put lost books like the comment you liked though! Maybe you could do both! But this one is kinda confusing so you might now want to do this one haha! Luc ya and your class room is amazing and looks so good!
Hi! I really enjoyed your video but I am getting a bit sea sick with all the fast camera jerks. Please slow down a bit and don't jerk the camera around so quickly. Thanks so much! X
Bins and name tags for there desk number and caddy number and the name tags for and storage bins for your math and caddy number and caddy for your classroom set up video and then you need to make a list book for you data folder and organize
Hi there, you are doing great work ... just please can you not move the camera alot ... and would like to see you while doing the work ... wish you the best always 🥰
I wish my teachers had cute classrooms like this when I was younger
I have a bin for “book jail” in my kindergarten classroom in which i put books that kids faught over or books that were miss-treated or were not placed were they are supposed to go. I usually leave the books in there for a week, and then put them back in their regular bin.
That’s really smart 😂 and naming it with the word “jail” in it is even smarter
I would do two “book quarantine” tiers on the cart! The kids might go through the books quickly if they’re shorter books or if they end up not finishing it.
The 3rd tier could be for lost books? If someone finds one laying around or isn’t sure where to put it back.
In your reading area where you have that small white bookshelf you should switch out some on the books every week so it gives the kids something different to read and every week

I was thinking the same thing today!! Thank you!

Yay so amazing that you want to be a teacher!! I can’t wait for this new journey ! 💛💛

Sheril Brasher why didn't I think of that? ☺️thanks for sharing!
The third bin could be a “book hotel” for lost or misplaced books.
You are so passionate about your classroom! Your students are very lucky to have you. You'll do amazing!
Thank you so much! It’s been a dream of mine to be a teacher! I’m very grateful for this opportunity! 💛💛
Are you doing anything make new classroom videos 2023
The 3rd one could be for books that the kids recommend to eachother
sticky back plastic is great for repairing books. its what I used to use when I worked in a school library
I cover my paperback books that need some new life, in clear contact paper.
That is a great idea!! I would have never thought to do that. Thanks! I will be doing that to my books 🙂
You could do a book rotation once a month. Like fill the bookshelf and then every month switch them out with the other books in storage. That way the kids have something new to red every month.
Love the globe. You don’t see those much anymore. Love your design ideas for your room.
For the Wayside School book or other books missing covers, you could try to find a high quality picture of the cover online then print it the same size as the book and laminate it then use clear tape to attach it to the book. Wayside School is 1000000% worth the extra work!
For your book quarantine and hospital maybe use the third one for the supplies to help take care of them? Great channel!
Scotch makes a book tape. Then I use clear contact paper to basically laminate the book. Also if the spine is broken- I try to use Elmers glue all in the spine and rubber band it until dry.
Great idea on spraying the laminated papers with the matte finisher!
Your pause at 30:15 was such a moment. I was like omg no girl what did you forget? What’s happening? My heart stopped for you 😅

Yes, I am so excited to teach! I talk about it more in my recent videos! But I will get more information once my training starts!
For the books that are ripped up or messed up on the rind, you could put cute washi tape over it and then put clear packing tape over that to seal it (because sometimes washing tape peels off and it adds another layer especially for younger kids)
I am amazed at the size of your classroom!
so happy i found your channel! i’m going to be a 1st year 3rd grade teacher in az this fall! : )
I use packing tape to bind books together. You can even reinforce books that aren't broken with packing tape.
Thats what I ended up doing!!
I watch these type of videos when I am cleaning an what not so THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THEM LONGER!!!
Your white board wall looks so cute, I was thinking it would be cute if you border the whole white board with the greenery!
Loved these set up videos! New subscriber here! The books that are old and torn, I'm sure some students would love to take them home!
I love your collection of books! Hair Love is one of my favs. I am teaching HS English and can't wait to put together my classroom library.
I’ve read hair love before! It’s a really good book :D
If you have any ELL/ESL kids or transfer kids from schools that may not be at the same level, it's good to keep some of those much lower level books. The third one could be new books in the library
The dry erase sleeves with the red and white paper is what you use in Eurkea math.
I really thought that the writing center looks good with the yellow pencils but will look great on the other side with the different color pencils. It ties in with all that is going on in your room better.
Just discovered your channel and I'm loving it😊 I'm looking forward to watching your channel 😁
Love your Callie Danielle shirt! She is one of my favorites! Your classroom is looking so great! ☺️
Thank you! I love the shirt so much! 😊
Use the 3rd part for your sanitizing solutions or sprays. You can call it book medicine or somethinbg
Will you be displaying the alphabets in manuscript too?
Oh my goodness, I just stumbled upon your channel and I love you! You are such a ray of sunshine!! I’m going into my third year of el. Ed. and am so excited to watch your journey!! Goodluck with everything! ❤️
I love your theme and color scheme!!! Definitely copying for next year 😉
you could do a tier for book accessories. different types of bookmarks etc
Have you thought about making another pink bulletin board on the other side of that white board?
You could have the third tier be book donations. Like if the parents want to send books they don’t want or need anymore with their child to class so you could grow your library. Or you could use it for teachers favorites or books that the kids have been fighting over (like a “Book Jail”).
What I did for a book that didn’t have a cover. I searched the cover printed in cardstock and taped it to the book.
You can either do a lost and found books for the third level or have two level that are book quarantine because you may have more books in that section.
omg OBSESSED with this room😍
The third tier could be book recommendations/ book faves. Students could want to recommend these books to their peers and you could put them on display!

I remember learning and watching Harry wongs stuff in school. 😆 the days I used to want to be a teacher. I keep thinking about going back.
The book with the missing cover, maybe you can print the cover from the internet and laminate it and secure it to the book with heavy packing tape
The top shelf on the cart could be book marks and book buddies? The other 2 could be the quarantine books/book buddies and book hospital
Or the 3rd shelf could be for return to library after they have been quarantined or repaired
you should put another cute pink bulletin board on the other side of your white board to balance the room! just an idea. love the theme 💕
Thank you so much!! 💛
Idk because im a student and because of corona i dont know whats happening but the 3rd book one could be donation books???
Maybe a book recycle? Like the book your students don’t really like or read and it can be put on "probation" and they can vote it stays or goes
The third teir could be "cured" so when the books are ready they could be on their
After they are deeply cleaned
I put two book returns so then that is wear the books would go when the students are done reading. Then I am going to deep clean them everyday, also before they go back on the shelfs!
for the books ruined on the edge I would tape the edge
Super cute! Is all the pink and floral too girly for a co ed classroom?
Color does not denote gender. 😒
Do you use Eureka for math? I was a first year teacher last year and had no clue what to do with those whiteboard things you found, but found out they came with the Eureka curriculum for math! Oh that’s awesome! Thank you so much! 💛
where is your alphabet wall above your white board from??
Idk if this would be good but book pharmacy?
the third shelf could be the "book hospital" for ripped books etc!
Oh man! That sucks about the scrapbook cases! I have some from a few years ago that are still going strong. I almost bought some more the other day, but maybe quality went down on them!

Awesome!! Loved the program so much! 💛
loving these videos!!!!!!
Yay! I’m so happy !!
Loved the video! You have some SUPER lucky future students!
Thank you so much!!! It means a lot ✨

THANK YOU!!!! 😻

This is so pretty. I am a teaching student :) Cant wait to see the rest of it !
Save those low level books and use them for guided reading, or for independent reading. You never know if you'll have kids that are really low. I've learned this the hard way before
Shannon Lee
I agree.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking!! I can just keep them in my storage closet until I need them!
I know you posted this a while back but I noticed you had a book called Pie I definitely recommend it. It has a plot twist at the end which changes the story, it’s amazing! Also it’s a chapter book.
This may be a stupid question, but what on earth are walls made from in America? How are you able to staple the walls?
In a lot of older schools many walls are are covered in cork. Otherwise drywall/wood work to staple things into also!
Most homes and buildings in the states use drywall.
@@AtsircEcarg Thank you! I'm from South African and all of our walls are brick so I was so confused
Bronwyn Davis Don’t worry. I had the same question before I got to the US 😂
Idk u got Chipotle because I love it so I am just jelly
book returns maybe
Omg that classroom is so cute
Those dry erase pockets are perfect for engage math!!! Don't get rid of them! You insert the templates given by the curriculum.
You should have the last bin in the rolling cart to be books that your students recommended you to read
21:37 the third thing for the books could be like suggested books or something idk
How many rolls to do the wall?
Can you do a desk tour
Yes! I am using my kidney table as my main "desk" table with storage behind it! So once I am done with it, I will! ✨
Is it me or it would be lit to be in a class room like this
for the 3rd one you could do a piece of paper and it could say : I recomend the book ____ because _______. for lost books
what is the name of your purse? I love it!!
Thank you so much!! I actually got it at the Santee Alley in Los Angeles for less than $100!! 😻👀
