Piastri has the temper and approach to be a World Champ. Lando is far to self-critical and as such, indecisive. Time after time Lando has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

So far the only edge i can comfortably say Lando has over Oscar right now is raw pace. But that's something Oscar is actively developing, i mean this is only his 2nd season afterall. Oscar will shortly surpass Lando in all categories is my guess. Not to discredit Lando, i simply just think Oscar is that much of a talent, and he will be a wildcard taking the fight to Max next year

I think Lando has dropped 15 first lap positions this season and gained none while Oscar has gained 5 first lap positions and lost none. Oscar is also the only driver to have completed every lap this season which is remarkable for a second year driver. McLaren would love Oscar as he never argues with his engineer or manager, he always obeys their orders without question, he never gets flustered and he almost always brings the car home undamaged. He is also costing McLaren less than a tenth of Lando's salary. He is the ultimate employee.

He was offered a pit stop for inters when it started raining and he literally yelled back at his engineer “NOOOO!” That lost him the race. I dont really get why people keep talking about lead driver, number 1 drivers. There is only one team that operates like that, and that is Red Bull Racing, they are the exception not the rule.
let them race and the better driver will come out on top. Over this season thus far, Lando has edged it - OScar is coming up fast - but let's see them race in a measured and controlled way given they are team mates.

Either way they're certainly a teammate battle to watch for the future! Thanks for watching!

No matter who is better between the two and no matter who McLaren sticks with the most, the truth is that both cannot drive the same car as long as it remains the fastest on the grid. One of them would leave and be number 1 somewhere else. But, let's wait and see the 2026 car or even next year's. McLaren has had so many slow starts to the season, even 2024 Bahrain level would be a disaster if they really want to fight for the championship next year.

Lando cracks under pressure too much and the race starts are his weakness. He has experience but he needs to be more focused on the races...
Piastri shows more maturity under pressure, but he still lacks of experience and he also needs to improve his 1 LAP pace on Saturdays if he wants to have a chance. He has solved the tyre management issue he had, now he needs to improve in qualy...

Alright, I’ll bite even though this is shameless engagement bating.
Based on a selected few races, you could say many thing that aren’t true. You could say that lance is better than Alonso for example, if you just look at a few races. But looking at selective data doesn’t give you a view of reality, it’s just confirming your own bias.
Oscar has improved, for sure. But let’s look at the data you refer to in context. Why has Oscar gotten more points?
Lando had a DNF when Max tell him out in Austria
McLaren used team orders to keep him behind Oscar when a faulty gearbox at the start lead to him losing the lead in Hungary.
In Spa, Lando made an Error at the start, and then he was on a track where overtaking was basically impossible and with a Red Bull in front after McLaren let Max do an undercut.
These races are what lead to the point deficit. Only one of them, he ended up in front based on his own merit.
Lando did do some mistake at the second quarter of the season, but that’s because he’s pushing hard now that everyone is expecting him to challenge max. He can perform brilliantly, just think of Silverstone last year when he took the lead from Max in a slower car. He got over his qualifying mistakes last year, he’ll get over his start mishaps after the summer break.
Don’t get me wrong, Oscar is great, in one of two years, he’ll be eye to eye with lando, maybe even surpass him. But right now, he’s getting lucky with lando’s inconsistency and not being under the same amount of pressure. Lando is really open about his feelings, so when he’s in a slump, people love it. Putting that pressure on Oscar, who’s really good at hiding his emotions could be disastrous, don’t just do that to him because it makes for great content and engagement to invent some kind of team rivalry

It's just like the RB seat... Riccardio is probably going to get the seat because of his personality even though Yuki is the faster driver right now.

Are we ignoring the fact that Lando was on course to win in Austria until max took him out? So yeah the points are what they are but do they really tell the full story? Had that not happened Lando would be miles ahead. At the time max and Lando clashed Oscar was on course for p4/5 and was over a pitstop behind his teammate.
The recency bias in F1 is unreal. Yeah the starts need to improve but McLaren have made some awful strategy calls. It’s a narrative to discuss at the end of the season not off the back of Hungary and Spa. Two races is all it’s been and the f1 RUclips community are all running with this oh Oscar’s better stuff.
In every statistical measurement Lando is outperforming Oscar.

You know what they say, you’re only as good as your last race in Formula 1! All jokes aside, they’re certainly one of the closest teammate pairings on the grid! Thanks for watching!

Isn’t that the truth! It will be new story about a different driver after Zandvoort and Monza no doubt.
Huge McLaren fan and have huge respect for both Lando and Oscar. Just have the feeling everyone is writing off Lando way too soon.

You bring up about points don’t tell the full story yet Lando is favoured more in strategy and have better upgrades and are put on his car before Oscar. Not to mention he beat Lando in Monaco quite convincingly considering it’s a driver skill based track.

Not the upgrade lie stories again. They had half a spec difference for one race. They’ve had the same in all other races. And why was he prioritised for the upgrade? He had more points. Same as any other team does it.

Not every statistic. Lando has yet to gain a position on lap one and has an average of -0.9, Oscar has an average of +0.4.

Lando out qualify Oscar almost every single time, make the argument once Oscar get a better pace😂
