Canada Wildfire Smoke Harms Air Quality for Millions in US

  • Due to the wildfires that erupted in Canada, New York City topped the list of the world's worst air quality rankings. About 100 million people across 13 U.S. states are impacted by the flumes. The Federal Aviation Administration slowed air traffic from East Coast cities because of reduced visibility. The smoke is obscuring iconic U.S. skylines with an orange glow. Now, the startling scenery is coming with a serious health warning. Inside Edition's Steven Fabian has more.

If the air quality is bad miles away from the fire, imagine the small cities and towns in Canada directly near the wild fires. Good luck, Canada. Stay safe.

Then when I got in the car and started driving, I noticed the thick haze in the air, and I thought to myself: “Okay, WHAT is going on around here?” A few hours later, I learned from a friend that the haze was coming from the wildfires up in Canada.
It was just like that time when we saw the constant haze coming from the California wildfires two years ago… but it was much worse. And if the haze and air quality is bad, I dread to think about how bad it is up in Canada.

Malaysia used to be subjected to haze and smoke like this every year across the Malacca Straight from the island of Sumatra, Indonesia during the slash and burn season in July-August from 1996. Then the 2004 tsunami hit and they didn’t have enough ppl left to do it up to today. Of course it is very sad that people died in such a horrible, tragic way, some areas only 1/3 of the residents were left still alive, especially given most of their population lived along the inner coasts- right where the tsunami went through and destroyed everything. Now we do get haze occasionally but from wild peat fires rather than farming.

I live in central jersey next to the beach and when I was in school, I was messing with everyone because I walked to school, saw no difference nor smelt anything. At about 2:30 some kids in my class looked outside and it was a nice orange shade, we could smell it through the walls. I had really no issue walking home however I live 2 minutes away by foot so it's not really surprising that I experienced nothing much. Point is, it's not so bad here but prayers out to the people affected by the smoke and people suffering from the fires.

    A note from Michigan!
The air quality isn’t nearly as bad here, but we’re still seeing it. The sun here looks VERY red, and everything is in a sort of haze. It always looks like it’s going to rain, but it’s smoke. My eyes and throat have started to sting, and standing outside had my grandfather coughing badly. He hasn’t gone outside in a while.
But that’s far from the worst of it. Hang in there, Canada. And New York. We’re here for you.🤝
