Our first year students have been exploring the myth of Medusa.
The myth was explored from two contrasting standpoints. Through the patriarchal lens of 'the bad mother' who turns others to stone and therefore must be beheaded by Perseus and also from the standpoint of the goddess Kali. The force of compassionate destruction, to be honoured and revered. The life, death, life force cited in Jungian psychology that comes hand in hand with creation.
Students created their own personal version of Medusa and allowed their stories to speak through her. We reanimated and embodied her by healing the mind body split through artmaking.
