Wow it’s insane what a difference of 3 years makes. I was born in 1990 and MKBHD was born in 1993 and I have memories of using AOL and AIM in middle school. I also had an older brother who was born in 85 so I think that played a huge role in exposing me to tech and popular culture of the late 80s and early 90s (but AIM was like an early 2000s thing).
The first thing that popped up in my mind was how Communication could get so much easier for someone who’d be def, dumb, a patient of autism, blind; the specially abled. The thoughts of the implications towards that direction is what’s blowing up my mind 🤯
The telepathy thing is scary. The first thing I thought of is how people can be harassed by others. If the harasser doesnt need to verbalize anything, there are no social consequences to deter them from committing that harrassment. Idk scary for women and poc and lgbt
I really enjoy what you are doing here. Looking forward sometimes means looking at the past. These videos you have allow us to do that. To answer your question.... we still haven't arrived and we have alot of work still to do on so many levels.
These series really make me appreciate how much we've accomplished so far.. And makes me think of how far we are yet to reach in like... 20 years from now.. Amazing
AR and VR communication definitely have a big part to play, before neural gear (though that's pretty cool on it's own). Imagine putting on a headset and suddenly your friend appears in front of you in the location of your choice.
Answering machines. One of the best features they ever put on the answering machine was the "toll saver". The feature before this was the ability to check messages remotely. You'd call your own number, enter a passcode, and then you could hear your recent messages. But if you were on a trip, that meant spending money on a long distance call to check messages. With toll saver, the answering machine would pick up after 4 rings when there were no messages, but 2 rings if there were new messages. So if it rang 3 times you hang up and don't pay for a long distance call. Picture phone. I was a kid back in 1973 and we went on a field trip to the Buhl Planetarium in Pittsburgh. They had the coolest science stuff there, and a really awesome miniature train room. In 1973 they had a picture phone. The screen was tiny, and in grainy black and white, but it worked. They had one here and another over there. I could make faces with my classmates over a real picture phone like on The Jetsons (only nowhere near as cool). The sound wasn't hooked up but they were going to fix that next week. Also, by 1975, every house in the country will have picture phones! So how cool is that? Needless to say, the 1975 thing never happened.
1:03 Every phone I've ever had? I never had voicemail at home until about 2004. I think I only had it on my cellphone before that. And that was only for a couple years.
Today's tech problem: People forgot to read Tomorrow's tech problem: people forgot to talk. We'll be mad at our kids for not saying a word in the past week cause communication will be telepathic
Brain thought "calling" seems like a bad idea. Other way that pool game goes: You: I'm going to win. Mate: Nah I'm winning. You: Damn my mates wife is hot. Mate: Excuse me! You: Ahh whoops.

So I've been watching this for years before finally releasing it :
😂😂hyperfast
Wait is this old???
I really enjoy what you are doing here. Looking forward sometimes means looking at the past. These videos you have allow us to do that. To answer your question.... we still haven't arrived and we have alot of work still to do on so many levels.
The Retro Tech series is incredibly well done ❤️
Damn he's dropping retro tech videos like crazy.
Keep em coming
I really hope we go back haha I hate being this connected.
old person alert
Boomer alert
Respect for the true Retro Tech fans who got here early enough to see this!
Best dope or nope so far
These series really make me appreciate how much we've accomplished so far.. And makes me think of how far we are yet to reach in like... 20 years from now.. Amazing
AR and VR communication definitely have a big part to play, before neural gear (though that's pretty cool on it's own). Imagine putting on a headset and suddenly your friend appears in front of you in the location of your choice.
The worst thing about this video is that.. it ends! 😢
I absolutely loved Dope or Nope with Chuck, so hilarious
I died when he picked up and said Whasuuuup!! 😂😂
Mind = 🤯 with the mind reading tech and dis not know we are so close with this. This is so amazing. Thanks for these episodes Marques 😊👍
This is simply NEXT LEVEL production! Well done for the information...
Great homework distraction !
But worth watching ...
That voicemail trick 🤣 🇯🇲
@Margues Brownlee lol ok fakey
@Margues Brownlee Margues 🤣
So no one is gonna talk about how he casualy facetimed "THE ROCK"👍
Shoot i was gonna comment this😅
ah, here it is... the comment I was looking for.
Loved this Season of RetroTech so far.. Good work Mr Brownlee.
Marques is on a role nowadays when it comes to uploading videos!
and i love it
Dude marques is going the extra Mile for us by uploading a lot Thanks Marques!
Wouldn’t want to accidentally hit send from my brain 😂
No, you wouldn't want to send THAT imagery off to your mom!
1:03 Every phone I've ever had? I never had voicemail at home until about 2004. I think I only had it on my cellphone before that. And that was only for a couple years.
Wow! I remember using AOL on dialup and now I'm doing graduate school on Zoom meeting with professors, students, and admin.
Marques way of not making conversation stale is asking "how's the weather" 😂😂😂😂.
"Most boring 6th grader" rip LOL
Today's tech problem: People forgot to read
Tomorrow's tech problem: people forgot to talk.
We'll be mad at our kids for not saying a word in the past week cause communication will be telepathic
The best episode of the season by far.
Opening up RUclips to see a new retro episode really is top tier. Watching this on a 4k TV in the lounge and you forget you're on RUclips ✨
Thank You Marques !!! This content was so entertaining :) So Well Produced.
Elon Musk: To The Mooooon!!!!!!
Future retro tech: *How did Humans spoil the moon.....*
Me who doesn't even know the meaning of science: *hmmm..... interesting.......*

@@ETBONIFACIO ok
Brain thought "calling" seems like a bad idea. Other way that pool game goes:
You: I'm going to win.
Mate: Nah I'm winning.
You: Damn my mates wife is hot.
Mate: Excuse me!
You: Ahh whoops.
I'm 23 and AIM was the absolute BOSS!!! You could choose your notification sound for the other person and KLAZON was the absolute best!
10:50 *YOUR BLIND THAT PHONE MOUSE WAS DEFINITELY DOPE*
