  • After visiting Dumaguete I realized Bacolod is only a 6 hour bus ride and well worth the visit. The city is very under the radar and even though it is very hot it still is a good size city with a lot of development ongoing. Also, the cost of living there is very, very good and is what you think it "should" considering the economy in the Philippines. I think a handful of individuals would consider this as a town they could retire in. Have a look for yourself. Enjoy!

Been to Bacolod. Great foods and people but this city needs to get organized. There are developments around, can be a beautiful city in the future next to Cebu, Iloilo and Dumaguete which are really nice places to live in the central Philippines.

Yeah Bacolod is nice a lot going on. I think Iloilo is cleaner though

@@aaronaround I agree, that’s very noticeable Iloilo is way more beautiful, clean and progressive than Bacolod. The way of life of ordinary people is better in Iloilo than Bacolod that when I got a chance to tour around both cities, I saw a lot of destitutes and more poverished places around Bacolod. There are still ways to make this city more livable in the future though.

When I visited Bacolod last year I saw that it was a very old city with alot of new construction projects going on. It has alot of standard malls and a few upscale restaurants. The weird thing I noticed is how some of the romantic restaurants didn't serve any mixed alcoholic beverages. They only sold entire bottles. The hotel restaurants did have more variety of mix drinks and food. The service is always nice but very slow so you will need alot of patience. Also some hotels have rooms that can have A/C issues or no internet. The best hotel was "Stonehill Suites" with excellent staff, service, and luxury rooms.

Bacolod, very dirty city, plenty of squatters, the single Publix plaza is dinghy, plenty prosties roaming around, jobless folks hanging around. Disappointing place. Public markets dirty and smelly. All the hype the residents tell you are the opposite of what you see in reality. The place has many bldgs, but you can see and feel the impoverished general atmosphere, there is a sharp contrast of nice and squalid areas. Very unlike the consistent clean, progressive, beautiful modern areas of Iloilo. Sorry for my family members here, but Iloilo is so much a better place than Bacolod. Between Cebu and Iloilo, two of the nicest places, I prefer Iloilo.

@@ernestdmenace3200Iloilo is richer than Bacolod. Iloilo City has bigger income and bigger GDP.
