Gaming/lots of games being pushed to be online only/online service, singleplayer games starring to dwindle, microtransactions everywhere, less variety, there's lots of examples i can think.
I feel like a lot of people in general just go over the popular games in the catalog and wont try to do some research to get a better idea of what games are available in the direction they are looking at
Because you grew up. Things that exited you as a in kid don't exite you anymore. As well as that as you get older your either to busy or to tired to play them, which adds to the feeling of burnout. Games didn't stop being fun, you just had to move on. But hey, that's just a theory!
Nope, adults need to have fun too, including using imagination. It’s a skill we get told to avoid exercising because of stigma and stereotypes. In reality, playing games absolutely doesn’t need to impact your professionalism, career, physical health or relationships. Sure, time pressure becomes more of an issue… but you still need to let your hair down sometimes!
It used to be gaming pushed boundaries year after year, it was exciting to see what innovations and improvements there’d be. Over time the incentives shifted to monetary extraction rather than iterating on fidelity, mechanics and…. fun.
For me i grew up with the whole couch gaming where i would play splitscreen with my brothers, cousin but now im just playing by myself that what makes boring for me but recently i got into fallout and open world types of games.
Well Imo, is because most games are design to keep you busy rather than entretain you. Like this year I bought F.E.A.R. and Dante's Inferno and MAN I had so much fun. Then I decided to re-install the Division 2 and MAN. I satdown and just looked at my order history and was like: "I payed 60 bucks for THIS?" Everything is a goddamn grind and every activity is design not to entretain you but to keep me busy. Then I played Darksiders 1, Rainbow six vegas, The original modern warfare games. Now the only title I wanna get that is new is Space Marine 2 because it looks fun. I wanna have fun. Not a second job.
It’s not that games aren’t fun. You just haven’t found the game for you. You don’t have to play the game that came out that week either 🤯 just find a new one that’s new to you and you don’t even have to do that. And also you don’t have to ruin the whole thing in a single day either. If you enjoy it you’d play it in bits every day to have something to look forward to
I agree with your opinion on gaming. Sure, not all games coming out now have the same feeling or playability or whatever as older games, but there are still fun and great games out there that are always going to intrigue us and are fun
2:13 tbh that’s why helldivers 2 hit so damn hard, it was stupid, buggy and not polished, which made it perfect for that ‘dumb fun’ and random awesome moments
I have been playing my NES and N64 consoles more often than not. I may have an hour or two I can dedicate on most days for gaming. I feel overwhelmed sometimes with newer AAA games because of the size and scope of gameplay. Too many tasks and side quests to enjoy. I seem to gravitate back to more simpler games where I can enjoy in smaller bites at a time.
The dumb fun aspect is such a good shout! I've really enjoyed Star Wars Outlaws. The dumb fun part for me, is getting 5 stars wanted level, driving into the desert and watching the krayt dragon rampage over the chasing imperials. Never gets old. We need more dumb fun in games.
Another good example in addition to sparking zero is Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2. Great fun game the PvP feels like old school mo games, just pure fun
I think age isn't that much of a factor, as much as boredom and time is though... however I still believe the biggest problems in regards to newer games these days stems from microtransactions, the prices, and the content. Microtransactions became prevalent and too normalized in games, becoming more egregious the longer we tolerate them, like loot boxes, which border on gambling, with games built around the monetized mechanic (game games) being a thing, and cosmetics costing in the $20 or more. Prices increasing despite games not really improving much at all in terms of quality, and games coming out far too rushed more often than back in the 2000s and early 2010s, with the whole release now finish later mindset the industry is taking. I don't think they are partially, but major reasons why new games aren't enjoyed as much, there are still good games that come out though, but fewer compared to the past 20 years or so.
If you want dumb fun, you have to get into helldivers 2 and space marine 2. Both similar, but just so much fun. They are pretty much all I've played this year and had a blast.
Hence why my favorite dlc for the borderlands series is the zombie isle of doctor zed. It's good fun and while hard at time the humor is on point and the set pieces help really sell the horror aspects of it.
I honestly haven't felt this way cus I mostly just play older games, from insurgency sandstorm, mirrors edge, down to the first DMC, it's way more fun and affordable
I think it has to do with us growing up. Like I loved Fortnite, Minecraft and Spider-Man and would play for hours. But growing up, having more studies, dreams and aspirations, and other stuff soon to come, automatically, games might become obsolete for someone or just a side thing where they would just rather play a free casual game than spend hours progressing in a battle royale. Not just that, it also depends on the public preference of games in each target market for them, like for example, Star Wars fans rather play games with lightsabers than multiplayer shooters. So if your someone who is a star wars fan, who prefers it being a shooter, but now for example, Disney is putting out lightsaber fighting games with minimal shooting, you would definitely be uninterested.
It is just age. Even now I’ll go back and play games I loved and get bored a lot faster now. The older I get I find myself gaming less and less which I mean that’s what happens, I have kids and just other priorities that gaming just isn’t up there anymore, I still enjoy it here and there but I maybe game 6-7 hours a week, less most weeks.
I’m a 31 years old man and I still have fun with games. Both old and new. True I have brand new responsibilities in my early 30s but still I haven’t had that “gaming isn’t fun anymore” feeling. However, yes it’s true, the heavy reliance on live service gaming, micro transactions, some companies relying too much on “political messages”, and of course incomplete games(with mediocre stories) is a problem. That being said, the flyers with the entertainment industry, haven’t made me bitter over the years. I’m not gonna let that steal my joy. I have way too much in life to worry about. big companies fear to try something new and out of the box, making same games over and over small studios/indie projects lack resources, oftenly not managing to deliver experience they want to. result: copy-paste projects and buggydrome. its kinda funny that same 'Saint Grail' Fallen Order is just a shadow of JK series that had a lot more. And its even more funnier(strange and sad actually) that no one can deliver multiplayer game with stunning lightsaber fights where Revan kills Darth Jar Jar... dumb fun is real, but its a part of a problem.
I feel like nowadays, people are just spoiled over really good games like GTA, Spiderman, God of War, etc. that anything less than that is bad. Now that modern consoles can have bigger games, people expect that everytime, which just isn't possible with how much time and resources it takes for just 1 game. Also, a lot of people nowadays are "My way or the highway," types who hate any game that doesn't do what they want. I just enjoy games for what they are and have fun. Mortal Kombat 1, Fortnite, Battlefront 2, and Outlaws (once I have time for a long game session) are all games that I enjoy playing for what they are, not "what they should be."

Because Disney doesn’t give a f$ck about anything but the cash and not the writing or story or who is directing they only care about the money but they killed Luke which was dumb but I know why they killed Han and leia because they were no longer available but without him the main character they don’t have the money maker they should give Dave florm more power because he directed the clone wars and rebels which inspired Ashoka which is great and he’s getting his movie to direct and he is always asking gorge for questions that’s the one I want in a higher power and he knows the most about Star Wars and Disney also needs to fix their lightsabers
