Looking at this video and I was thinking this is half the price of things in arkansas. This can't be right" then noticed it was 5 years ago. EVERYTHING in this video has doubled EXCEPT the paycheck!
My only suggestion is that someone who makes $30K a year isn't taking home the $2,500 monthly. The take home pay after taxes would be significantly less. Could you do a budget with a more realistic take home pay? I realize that will be different for everyone depending on if they are single, married or have dependents so I guess now that I'm writing this that might be hard 🤔 just a thought!
i'm saying $30k after tax, so $2500 take home! I guess I wasn't clear in the video, sorry about that! I definitely planned on doing a mock budget with a smaller take home pay!
Life With Sarah ohhhhh ok I got it now makes sense, but the concept was perfect!! I do have a question, let's just say for you guys you said you budget $400 a month on groceries, if you only use $325 do you add that left over $75 to the next months groceries budget or put it to the snowball for next month and do you add it another area like snowball ???
we normally moved it to another item in our budget if we were over on something else, or we put it towards our debt, I don't think we ever rolled it over to the next month
This is a good and realistic budget for your area! Here are some budget items that I have had to include over the years: Renters insurance Medical/dental co-pays Prescriptions Sinking fund for car maintenance Pet expenses Haircuts Gifts Sinking fund for annual trip/vacation, e.g., family reunion Clothing/shoes/accessories Hobby supplies Entertainment
She know better if she even bothered to look it up but I think she choose that number so the rest of it would work. Remember $250 and $300 are extra but even with double the rent the numbers can't work IMO....
Some suggestions I would also include (and have in my own budget) are: sinking funds for car inspection and registration, property taxes on any vehicles, Christmas gifts, other gifts (e.g., birthdays, non-Christmas holidays), medical costs, haircuts (3 or 4 a year), and pet-related expenses if you have a pet. Those are all things I would still spend money on even when in debt. I know some people don't use sinking funds but I think it's better to use them for those expenses that will definitely come up every year so you can be sure you can cover them.
Do you generally consider household essentials in with the grocery budget? Toilet paper, laundry detergent, shampoo, dish soap, toothpaste, etc. We make ours a separate category but I know a lot of budget youtubers include it in with groceries. It's such a tricky category to estimate because some months we only need a couple household items and then other months it seems everything runs out at once! Our household essentials budget varies anywhere between $50-120 a month. If it were included in food that would be a huge chunk out of our food budget so that's why we keep it separate. I love this video idea! Such a great practical tool! Congrats on finishing baby step #3!
I do add in household essentials into the grocery budget, $400 is max we have paid for all our groceries including household, so some months we are under and i'll either move that money to another account, use it for play money or just buy some extra things at the store that we normally wouldn't buy
Hi, Sarah! Sure miss your videos! I see in the comments that you've been busy at work. I wanted to suggest/request a RUclips live video where you give us a quick check in and update. And then you could tell everybody about your work schedule and you wouldn't have to reply to all of these comments asking where you are. Lol! Hope all is well!
It's actually best to keep it at the same temp. I was told so like try not to jeep it too high or too low of course but it makes it harder for your a/c to work to get it cooler when you do it up and down
Great budget! I also want to say that I got Sling TV on my Roku for $25. After adding diy channels for me and a sports package for my husband, it still only comes to $36, and you can binge watch shows or watch what's currently scheduled!
It was nice to hear her work was a budget lower than 50,000 because a lot of other people on RUclips work with budget/income 50,000 or more. Also, it would be nice to figure in health insurance. I just recently recently recently switch states in my health insurance has gone up because the state that I live in does not have mediccare/Medicaid for lower income people. And my previous state they had lower income options for healthcare. Overall, I thought the video was very helpful. Great job.
Look into rural health clinics. They offer self pay for people without insurance. They charge based on income. For hospitals look up charity hospitals in your area and ask if they offer discounts for self pay patients. You should qualify if you make under $40k a year.
I’m so happy you added tithe, because I’m paying that. I live in London and my starting salary is £30,000 and I’ve been trying to find a way to save enough money. I don’t have debt fortunately but I do have bills like rent, phone bills and will soon start driving and obviously my tithe as well
If you pay your auto insurance 6 months at a time you can save. Don't pay it monthly. We save around $135+ by paying our auto insurance 6 months at a time.
Maybe shop for insurance .some will decrease it drastically but it’s .... kinda of like a fake built in discount if that makes sense. I have had SF my whole life and sold insurance for them. THey are expensive yes but I think I pay ..a buck or two extra for sfpp -which is their monthly plan and their competitors are similar. I gladly pay that5- 10 bucks for the entire 6 months for the flexibility of having a recurring payment ! If anyone says your bill goes from 7464747 down to 400 magically by paying in full... it’s basically a sales gimmick lol. Insurance is still a for profit business at the end of the day
There is someone who lives in an rv in Southern California off of 10k a year. It’s possible..just takes a lot of work and sacrifice..there’s no need to starve yourself. It doesn’t matter what expensive place you go to, there are always ways to be cheap.
People really be thinking ca is not affordable off a salary under 100k well guess what kids you can I been in CA my whole life and living a life I love... You guys probably live above your means
Are you going to put up another video sometime? I'm a new subscriber and I noticed your newest video is several months old, but I love your videos so I'm hoping you will put more up soon!
It's interesting to see how your budget stacks up against other budgets. Maybe you could make a location where others could post their budgets? Might help :)
I'd be interested to see one in the 4-5k range for a family of 4 (and if possible, using higher rent because we need more bedrooms and higher food costs because of the little humans). Thanks for the video!
I need to move to Texas...$700 for rent and $100 for car insurance for 2 people? I pay $110 for one car for myself in Atlanta and that is with flawless driving record, very basic coverage, and a credit score over 700. Minimum rent in ATL even 20-30 miles outside the city is about $1000/mo for a one bedroom before you even factor in utilities. I will have to check out that Zander website and see what they can do.
Do you use credit cards or stick strictly to the "pay in cash" rule by Dave Ramsey? I know several people who put everything on cards to gain points but then pay off the credit card every month.
Great video for budgeting! It'll be super helpful for those that need to see it written out. Perhaps for future videos keep in mind that Hulu and Netflix raised their prices and apartments aren't really that cheap anymore. I also agree with the others that $2500 take home on $30k a year isn't realistic. It might be helpful in preparation for future videos to check current pricing on these things and draft mock budgets from those numbers.
Oh I gotcha! Thanks for clarifying that. Again, great video, the mock budget is a great idea that I haven't seen yet on yt! Thank you! (all the exclamation points!)
I need the community help with answering this question. How do you inform your friends and family you are debt free without coming across as a show-off or being cocky? When you tell them you are broke and can't pay your bills, they show you sympathy, but when you say you are debt free, they despise you. Thanks for your response.
PLENTEOUZ There's certainly a difference between what you say and how you say it. You can certainly inform them that you are debt-free in a non-braggadocios way. I guess a question that I would encourage you to consider is, do I feel I need to tell them that information and, if so, why do I feel compelled to do that? At the end of the day, you can control what information you are sharing, rather than the impact that information will have on their lives.
Thanks for the feedback. My objective of sharing is to encourage my friends and family to embark on the debt free journey. But to your point I have to assess the situation and ask a few questions before divulging this kind of information.
PLENTEOUZ I agree that it is definitely in the presentation. My sister-in-law shared her journey along the way with us. We were just as excited for her as she was because we remembered the days of her working 3 jobs and eating Goldfish because that's what was left until the next week. She started a non-profit organization around financial knowledge called Generation Wealthy (you can search their videos on RUclips). I think the biggest problem she faced after reaching debt freedom was people expected her to have all this money all of a sudden, but she was saving for other goals and her emergency fund and some people didn't get that.
Plenteouz I agree with you, I told my family I was debt free last March when my student loans were finally paid off and I wasn't saying it to put friends and family out We lived on a 14,000 dollar a year budget so my family knew we were broke. (we used to do handmade Christmas gifts because I couldn't see going to my families Christmas party with out anything to give. I'd make Homemade bread for my husbands mom for Christmas as well, because we couldn't afford lavage items.) I told them because if Shawn and I could do it I knew that anyone can do it. it wasn't like Ah Ha I got out of Debt and you didn't. no it was because we wanted to help other people know. if that makes since.
I live in Austin also, and rent is a big! But you can definitely find something cheaper than $1500 ... Yes you might be in not the greatest part of Austin l, but it's doable.
Hello Sarah...my daughter's name is Karah. She is a 22 year old, in debt and living on her own. She's barely getting by....and I'd LOVE to see a video geared towards such aged young women dealing with school-debt, car payments, insurance, ect...so on and so forth. THANKS and great video kiddo.

Wish I could rent for 700. 1000 min where I live and its 1 bedroom. Saving 300 dollars a month is way way way to low. You will never retire. I think 800-1000 for this is income is better
good budget planning. Cutting corners if only for a short time until you get the budget under control is a great idea. Get creative on things you can do for free. Plan a picnic at the park, go to the library and share quiet time reading your favorite books....
Hey Laura! Things are good, I've decided to step back from YT for the time being. I'm working basically full-time and just don't have the time to film and edit videos right now. I'm leaving my channel up bc I'd like to come back at some point! I'm sorry :(
aww thanks Angie!! :) I've had a lot of stuff going on at work and have had to start working on Wednesdays which is when I used to film, so I just haven't had the time! I'm hoping things will slow down soon so I can come back! I miss you guys too!!
With this income, it would take you 5 years of saving 600$ per month just to put a 20% down payment on a 175k dollar house. I would double that to have extra savings. So almost 10 years just to buy a average priced house. Ouch.
Hey Alisha! Things are okay, I've decided to step back from YT for the time being. I'm working basically full-time and just don't have the time to film and edit videos right now. I'm leaving my channel up bc I'd like to come back at some point! I'm sorry :(

Andrea S. Garcia I agree I'm at 37 a year and after taxes and stuff I bring home abt $2050 monthly but I get the concept tho it was helpful

Andrea S. Garcia I know i make it 23000 a year before taxes. i think a 30000 income would probably get 1875 home a month?
This is a good and realistic budget for your area! Here are some budget items that I have had to include over the years:
Renters insurance
Medical/dental co-pays
Prescriptions
Sinking fund for car maintenance
Pet expenses
Haircuts
Gifts
Sinking fund for annual trip/vacation, e.g., family reunion
Clothing/shoes/accessories
Hobby supplies
Entertainment
$700 is not typical for the rest of the US. It would have been nice to do a budget based on the average rent in America.
She know better if she even bothered to look it up but I think she choose that number so the rest of it would work. Remember $250 and $300 are extra but even with double the rent the numbers can't work IMO....
I’m here in 2021 , let’s get it lol. Hope this helps
I just stumbled onto your video and really needed this! I am teying to learn to budget and this is my current salary. Perfect!
Dang, I pay way more in rent than that as a single person splitting three ways w/ roommates.
Thank you so much!! Just what i needed, since this is right in line with the amount that is take home pay. Thank you again :)
Thank you so much!! This was a great help, really appreciate the advice and walk through!!
Hi Sarah, really missing you and your videos, found them so helpful - are you planning on coming back ? xx
Hi Sarah! I just wanted to pop in and say I miss you and your channel! You always had such great videos! Hope all is well with you and your family! 💜

Try this 30k budget in southern california. good luck not starving to death

Good job Sarah!

Anyone here in 2019? 🤣
I'm trying to find her on instagram!
I wish we had an update or something! I wonder if she has another channel or if she just hasn’t felt like uploading.

Here 2020
Here in 2020! 😂

Can you make a pros and cons video about living in Texas? I'm thinking about moving there
So this is pre-tax after all deductions including 401k contributions?
Where do you take out for personal hygiene 🪥 and household products from?!
I wish rent was that affordable in NYC.
Were in TX do you live ??? I live in Austin and the rent is 1500 for my home .
we live in a small town in between waco and austin!
I live in Austin also, and rent is a big! But you can definitely find something cheaper than $1500 ... Yes you might be in not the greatest part of Austin l, but it's doable.
She said she was renting to save. Do you rent a house or live in an apartment?
Well, in my country, if u can save 500 per month for an year, you can actually afford a decent house with 3bhk :)
GA rent is cheep also we got a wooden floor and almost granite counter top apartment with 3 bed rooms that looked really nice for only 1,400 a mouth
Hey Sarah - I noticed you haven't posted in a while. Hope everything is okay. Just wanted to drop you a note.
Hi Gelactic, I'm new here but will have seveal videos on budgeting/finance. Check out my chanel on 7/1/18.
Where you at girl? Hope everything is okay.

where'd you go?

No car pmt, life ins. Or car/house insurance?
What is that net or
Are you going to post another "Read With Me" video soon? :)
What about hygiene and cleaning products?
Hey girl! Missing your videos! I hope all is well 💜
The take home pay will be $1900 a month. There is no medical/ dental in this budget.
I so miss your videos!!!
Will u do a minimum wage budget maybe

The cost of living in Tx is so comfortable. I live in Arizona and $30k a yr is not enough for anything
we are definitely very fortunate to have such a low cost of living here

can you make a video on a single man with 50K a year income
forgot to include renters insurance
Where have you been?? Your viewers miss you :)
aww thanks Angie!! :) I've had a lot of stuff going on at work and have had to start working on Wednesdays which is when I used to film, so I just haven't had the time! I'm hoping things will slow down soon so I can come back! I miss you guys too!!
@@LifeWithSarah123 I have been thinking of you lately and praying you are okay. ❤
$2500 per month, less taxes, health insurance,$2000 and rent $1200 I also pay trash and sewer on top of all the other bills.
With this income, it would take you 5 years of saving 600$ per month just to put a 20% down payment on a 175k dollar house. I would double that to have extra savings. So almost 10 years just to buy a average priced house. Ouch.
Most homes are under $80k in cities that pay those salaries.
Where are you? I hope everything is okay. Do anyone know what happen to her?
