      We got lucky with weather windows this month, as otherwise it was blowing 30-35knots in the North Sea. Maalie is a tank and took everything we threw at her! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

    Exactly, then turn the engine over , the added advantage being diesel is hydroscopic and removes any water inside the engine. As I said earlier we used this as a standard flush for engines that had suffered immersion/ freezing after a rebuild. You have a good channel going here , keep it real 👍

      This makes alot of sense, thanks very much for sharing it - I will work this into our normal servicing. If I have any engine questions I might ask in the videos/look for your name in the comments - hope that's OK! Much appreciated for following along, cheers!

    Just found your channel. I did the same passage, Peterhead - Blyth - Scarborough - Lowestoft, Dover then west to Plymouth in 2021. Departing Peterhead in to a 6 metre swell was interesting, but with a northerly wind and sailing south with the tide we made some great passage times.
    The 'clubhouse' at Blyth was stunning.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  9 месяцев назад

      Exiting Peterhead harbour with a 6m swell must have been spicy! It's a great run down to Blyth though, we had a cracking sail. We would have done the same and tied up in Dover but the big front that came in stopped us at Ramsgate. Thanks for stopping by and commenting 👍🏼

      Hey Ron, great to meet you in Eastbourne and chat all things Hebridean and schengen, thanks again for all the tips and coffee! Some of the finest cruising we've experienced was on the west coast, spent about 5 yrs there in various smaller boats before finding this one. A tip about the wind vane - there is a section of threaded rod that comes out of the carbon fibre push rod (bottom end). Leave an extra 10-15mm on this piece, as it allows for extra adjustment of the pendulum if required. Hope that makes sense!

    When you say "twin reef in the Genoa" do you mean two full turns or something else? What boat is it? I take it you bought 2 impellers so you have a spare , some silicone grease is good when fitting a new one but once the water is there its fine.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  9 месяцев назад

      Generally when we reef, we match the sail areas. So 2 reefs in the genoa would make the head of the genoa the same height as the main with 2 reefs. Does that make sense? And yes, spare impellers now on board! This still turned out to not be this issue, as the problems persisted on future passages

    Twin main sheet? There when you got her, or did you install? I’m in a R36, currently with a knackered old traveller and keep seeing twin systems and they are giving me pause for thought…..do you like it?

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  9 месяцев назад +1

      We added a 2nd mainsheet to allow us to use our new spray hood 'cockpit cover' whilst sailing.There's a snap shackle on the bottom of main sheet fiddle block, which attaches to a big dyneema soft shackle on a coaming cleat. This way its very easy to remove when we don't need it. In terms of sail trim it's fantastic, much more control than a single mainsheet. The 'windward' mainsheet acts like the traveller, whilst the leeward mainsheet controls leech tension. We'll do a boat tour vid soon with details, otherwise there is more footage in our North Sea crossing vids. Hope that makes sense! Cheers
