We travel to Patagonia in search of back country rivers to dry fly fish with big foam beetle patterns. The rainbow trout were alive this day, keyed into anything landing on the way and traveling through the water to hammer our big foam beetle patterns. It was simply beetle mania dry fly fishing. The peak of summer sees the best terrestrial dry fly fishing and we timed this day perfectly!

If I was ever asked to explain what it is that I love about Nature & Fly fishing- I’d show them this- Awesome, you nailed it,from every angle
Thank You
Thanks for this compliment. It's really great that it connected so well with you:)
That is the best fly fishing camera work I have ever seen …
Thanks for this! It's wonderful to hear your appreciation of it.
Wow,What a video thanks guys!
Some neat moments in this one 😊 glad you enjoyed it 🍻
Just stunning film, Love it..... realy "tight" dry fly fishing and good music.
Wonderful to hear:) Yes, we loved getting in so close and letting a bow and arrow cast do the trick!
That action and eat at 11:44 is insane! So awesome!
That's one of our favorites too!
Beautiful rainbows...
an amazing afternoon :)
Absolutely amazing! Some of the best collection of shots ever!!!!
Crazy how it came to be "the day". You never know. How it all unfolded to give us all tight shots and neat fish in perfect locations and light. Gorgeous! :) And grateful for the opportunity :)
That water color!! and the trout!! Oh the trout!!
isn't it gorgeous :) Loved putting the camera and flies in this one!
Must be the best fishing video I have seen.Amazing, great music choice and great pleasure
to watch.Thank you so much.
Wow, thanks - glad you enjoyed this one. It was a great day in a stunning part of the world :)
I had a great trip a few years ago in summer in a less frequently patronised area of Patagonia. On big dries to freely rising bows and browns. This video reminded me of it not just because it was in Patagonia but because we had a few days like that in this place. Thanks for rekindling the memories.
It is wonderful when we connect with something that keys up our mind's eye of our own experience. So glad to hear this helped fire up yours :) And better to hear you had such an experience too! :)
My God, such stunning video and editing. The very best not just fly fish but on the web. Thank you!
Thank you - so glad you enjoyed it. We lucked into a perfect situation and location thanks to our guide's plan. What a location and simply stunning water, scenery, birds, fish... :)
World Class production. Your video has me searching for lodges and guides
Thank you :) Consider joining us at Magic Waters Lodge? We'll be there mid Nov to end Jan. www.jensenflyfishing.com :)
the Spielberg of fly fishing, an other great video thank you guys. my only way to travel right now is by watching you
Maybe as prolific? :) We'll keep editing, chipping away at the footage mountain. Tho we're set to head south here next month so lots to come :)
Awesome video, awesome fishing…. Watching this with headphones was an amazing experience. Thanks 😮
Ha, this was a fun trip! Cholila Tigre is a great piece of water!
I cant WAIT for this much fun!!! Soon.
They sure do love their beetles! We're looking forward to hosting you:)
Epic day!
Pretty amazing timing and location 😍
Your videos are absolutely stunning! I’m grinning from ear to ear. It’s obvious you enjoy the process of getting these shots as much as you enjoy landing these fish!
So great to hear you enjoyed this one. We love getting these shots and just letting loose and having fun on the rod and camera :)
Speechless, top notch editing as usual, and loved that intro, and those missed takes!!
So glad you enjoyed this one. The missed takes and last-micro-second refusals are just awesome to watch - maybe more than the solid eats, really :)
Awesome ! Love any beetle patterns.
no better fun playing with rainbows than with foam! :)
We appreciate the hours of work that goes into a video production of this quality. Well done. Effortlessly watched the eighteen minutes. Thank you for sharing it!🥂
:) Thank you for that acknowledgement, it is certainly appreciated. :) You are right, there are heaps of hours in something like this: tho it is only 17 minutes and rolls quite smoothly it started with a 9 hr timeline and was chiseled rather extensively. :) Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic filming guys thanks so much
Glad you enjoyed it. It was a ton of fun working in tight with those hot rainbows :)
I am speechless... I have seen a lot of fantastic stuff from you, but this was really special, so close, so action packed and spectacular. Congrats and thanks for sharing¡¡
It was a unique day of having to fish close, film extremely close, launch the flies into stunning water in a stunning setting and.... let's just have a go and see what comes of it all. And in they came, rainbow after rainbow :)
I clicked into this video with low expectations (im just weird like that, nothing personal) but left with high rewards! I actually appreciate the fact that you don't talk too much , im definitely a new subscriber 😌
Thanks for checking us out and deciding to follow our channel:) we appreciate you taking a flyer on us!
The reality is that we offer both this style of video which focuses purely on slow-motion with music overlay as well as a more "how to" style in our "As It Happens" series that shares our experiences on the water with both 4K video and our voices, as well as some music. Hopefully you'll enjoy other video finds on our channel that connect with you. Our latest Spring Creeks video offers a similar feel to this one.
@@jensenflyfishing i sure do enjoy them, i dont like those channels that talk about unrelated stuff lol tutorials are definitely my cup of tea though, keep up the good work!!
This is very nice work.
Thank you - that was an incredible experience :)
That water is just so beautiful. Looks so much like NZ...
It could easily be a New Zealand river! Loved it :)
Your video is very beautiful and really cool. So awesome! 🤩😍
Thank you. So good to hear they are valued. A really wonderful experience in this video :)
Great video...you guys fish amazing places!
We've worked had to do exactly that through the years :)
Woo I love that story very much , all the footage are awesome and fantastic 👏
It's days like this that call us back again, and again, and again... and once a year you stumble onto such a day :)
Awesome footage. Brilliant.
A heap of fun for sure. The world needs more beetle eaters :)
This is my favorite video! That cast at the start was amazing
:) Great to hear. The bow & arrow cast just means you're in a cool situation :)
I can only think of an expletive laiden comment to describe what I just see.
This is now on my bucket list, all I need is a lotto win 🤣.
Great work guys!!
PS. The music was perfect
It was an amazing day to be sure! It is worth getting to Patagonia one day :) And thank you, so glad you enjoyed this :)
Wonderful vid, watched the whole 17 minutes, well done
Glad you enjoyed this one. Loved that day :)
Loved this Video.
Perfect. Thanks for sharing that.
Seriously, in every aspect, great vid!! Love the music you picked as well!
Thanks so much! And glad you like the music. It's a subjective thing but most seem to enjoy its different bent than the typical :) Our next video heads back to Patagonia again and it's another fun one :)
Awesome as always please keep videos coming been If stock in the house for coastal a year with a back injury can't wait to get back out there and Wet A-line Can even sit in pie flies that's how bad it isLike I said in the beginning please keep videos coming love everyone of them thank you God-bless
Glad you can enjoy these and hopefully you have a comfortable spot to watch them. Back injuries... are never good. Hopefully the coming months bring healing and you can regain comfort. We'll keep editing and publishing as we can! :)
@@jensenflyfishing thank you 🙏🎣
Beautiful 😍
😊😄 The beetles didn't disappoint!
They were some epic eats.
Loved that day!
Amazing video wow speechless beautiful editing and great fish
simply one of those days that had the entire package of location, scenery, water, forest... and a parade of rainbows. :)
The best river I have ever been to, such a magical walk. I wonder what it looked like 10 years ago before the fires.
Exactly! The changes that waters see over time is staggering.
You both do phenomenal work. I watch them all and learn a great deal. Thank you.
It's neat isn't it? On a day like this one was, filmed in tight because we had to be in tight to cast, there's a lot of subtle, inherent stuff without saying a word. Approach, cast, twitch :)
If I had to describe this video with only a couple of Words it would be..."piece of art"‼Can't believe it was at Chubut province, never heard about such fabulous places in it (thought it was at Chile). Very nice that you included a Martin Pescador Grande scenes and failed attacks, flabergasting bird in a unique river.
Send you virtual hug, Tomi the biologist 🙌
Hi Tomi! :) Glad to hear you enjoyed this one so much. You can DM us on IG if you ever want to know exactly where we were if you get over that way. The Martin was the hilight of many days there, to be honest. We long to get back in order to spend proper time to capture what deserves to be captured :) Wily birds tho - they hold off forever and make sure you are just far enough away before they commit to diving for dinner. :)
Well done to you both on the exceptional footage and editing 👏🏼
Hey, glad you saw this one. Was heaps of fun that day! :) We'll have to get together when borders open to do some video messaging :)
Perfect timing, i leave in 5 days for my 4th full season of fishing Chile and Argentina. You two are really good at capturing the moment.
Aw man, that sounds like a great time! :) Glad you enjoyed this video but we suspect your trip might be amazing :) Have a great season!
Great footage... Thanks
Was a fun day to share :)
Thanks for the great video. Makes me wish I was back in Patagonia again.
Us too! Hard to edit this knowing winter is coming our way soon. But the good news is that Chile & Argentina are opening borders without quarantine (but with other restrictions, certainly) Nov 1, for those with the time and/or $. Glad you enjoyed this one :)
In awe the whole edit guys. Absolutely amazing session.
Thank you - you have to get lucky and jump all over it when it happens :)
Awesome video guys, just amazing fishing action wow, it was certainly one of those days, we had one of those days yesterday chasing Sea Bass around the south coast of England, Bass where just hitting bait fish shoals and our Clouser grey ghosts, epic morning. Thank you for sharing just brilliant. Tight lines
Thanks again for watching and commenting! There's nothing better than "those" days. Really stoked for you that you just experienced that with Sea Bass. Those determined and relentless eats are so great!
@@jensenflyfishing thank you
Amazing. Great job on the video.
thank you! :) loved this day.
The stuff dreams are made of!
It's good to live in a dream once in a while! :)
Outstanding work from both of us! This is the kind of dry fly fishing we love to do in Patagonia! Hope you can be back this season now that borders will be open. Cheers from Argentina and keep it up guys!
Thank you. :) I think this is the kind of dry fly fishing EVERYONE loves! :) We'll see how the season shapes up and hopefully we can get there!
The clip of the kingfisher. Wow.
kind of our favorite part, really :)
@@jensenflyfishing Same :) The rest is great as usual, too.
Very nice movie Dave & Amelia, I know this place, my wife and I were camping in the National Park in the summer of 2019 and fished the river were it flows out of the first big lake, we did quite a bit of research before the trip and ended up tying a lot of big terrestrials....everything we caught was on size 16 and 18 black midge patterns lol. Its an amazing area, I can't wait to visit again
Thank you. If you know it (and it sounds like you do!) then you know how stunning the scenery and the water :) We were fortunate as a rain had come through and we were fishing a dropping & clearing river and the fish were KEEN! The late summer season and PRESSURED trout are so used to big beetles. We actually spent most of our trip fishing small dries & droppers on lighter tippet and caught most everything - but boy did the fish not want to commit on the bigger foam stuff (except for this video of course!). So, similar to you! :)
@@jensenflyfishing Interestingly we noticed that even with the small flies, giving them a twitch was often the difference between a take or a refusal. I was surprised how much animation you gave the beetle patterns but man did it ever work. We were joking that next time we go down there we will tie up a bunch of Earwigs, everywhere we pitched out tent seemed to be infested with them at night, i'm still finding them in the tent seems !
@@oliverwilliamson3910 :) funny you say that - this weekend's video on a tiny spring creek showed exactly that - a minor twitch got them committed. Fun stuff. Yeah, we twitched the bejeebes out of our beetles because of the conditions - a little murky and up. Lower and clearer, nope! And yes, earwigs and wasps seemed to dominate.
Awesome video. Super technical casting and fighting fish though 😁
Glad you enjoyed it! One of those locations you just say "let's get at it" and just have a go! :)
Great . Patagonia Beetles . Thank you very much .

So glad to hear you enjoyed it :) Was a great day
Amazing video guys, particularly from Patagonia where I am from!!!
Thank you - it is special country and spectacular scenery for days like this to happen! :)
Sometimes the "Now, how am i gonna land it?" just has to wait until the fish is hooked😁👍
make it up as you go along.... 100% Calvinball :)
My goodness !I have never seen fly fishing so masterfully done .I salute you MASTER.By the way you have a new subscriber 🙏🏻🕷🐟🎣
We simply got on a great piece of water and put everything we had into it! Thanks so much and a warm welcome to our channel!
It is a pleasure to be able to enjoy your amazing work.
Incredible images. With your videos I trying learn speak English to. Thanks
that's neat. good for you doing that. We speak in some odd terms as well so be patient with us in what you hear :)
aye aye aye. winter heat!!
Better to be in Patagonia than Canada for winter! Let's hope we can get there again!
Epic!
it was! loved it and being able to film those eats was magic :)
That Dream ! 😀
never wake us up! :)
Sick!!!
heaps of sneezing fish here :);)
Impresionantes imágenes!!!
Merci!
that looks awesome
Worth the travel! 🙂
So beautiful 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
loved this day for sure! :)
Nice my friend place 🔔🔔👈👈🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗🤗
It is gorgeous! 😍😍🍻
Que linda que es la Patagonia Argentina cheee!!
gorgeous! :)
Insane poking fun!
in every sense! :)
very nice very
Glad you enjoyed this one - a gorgeous location to have fun :)
That was sick you definitely need to know how to slingshot nice work 👍👍🤜🤛
Yes! Don't leave home without the bow & arrow cast and 2x! :)
I've commented on many of your videos, and once again I love this one. One thing I've never mentioned is a question I often have...who chooses the music that goes with your videos? It's always spot on.
Hi Phil. Great to hear you enjoyed this one. It was a fun one for Dave to edit and us both to fish and film. Dave edits and picks the music from our music subscription service and really weeds and sifts the music to get it right. It takes a ton of time but it usually adds some fun angles to the video 😊🍻
@@jensenflyfishing thanks!
hello . nice miusik
Hi & thank you! :)
Epic beetle outing!!! Was this during spring runoff for water to be so blue or is the water always that color?
Your a lucky couple to enjoy so many beautiful places doing something you love together. I’ve tried many times to get my wife to fish with me but she has no interest.
Glad you enjoyed it. This was late summer, extended drought conditions tho on the back side of a weak front fresh that stirred things up just enough that the water was coming down an inch and clearing. Those rainbows were hunting. :) There's a lot of luck in what we do and how we live: we set out to do this and through the years have guided, owned a lodge, published a magazine, produced DVDs and here we are here now... a lot of hard work, some pivoting, but luck & fortune certainly weaves its way into every day. It's not always easy but when it smiles, it smiles :)
I would love to know the cameras you guys use. The footage is always crystal clear.
Hi & Thank you. We use the Lumix GH5 with a series of basic Oly lenses - all is in the text write up below the video also! :)
yes /
when they're lined up like that :)
EPIC lol woow ;)
Gorgeous day, water & fish :)
Awesome video as usual! Did have one question....what was that on the fish's back around 8:06? I thought it was a beetle that broke off at first, but noticed you didn't remove it before releasing the fish so it has me curious.
it was a skin tag infection from a wound. it looks like our fly but you can see it on the fish before it eats. just a wound and scar tissue
@@jensenflyfishing Thanks for the reply, the angle really made it look like the beetles you were throwing. :)
@@johnbush2499 no worries - as it was coming in we thought the same thing and then realized what it was and AJ kinda didn't want to stoke it on the release too much! :)
Ja ja, es verdad, el el río basta con un gesto. Se entiende todo-
Perfecto! There was some incredible beauty to be experienced this day:)
Unbelievable! Beautiful work! This summer we will be back there! What was the river?
Was amazing! Fun crawling in and out of the forest and bush on this one. It was in Chubut province :)
I take off my hat... 🤠
We were extremely fortunate on this day! :)
Beautifull a master piece, its in region de aysen chile but please which is the name of the river???
That is over in Argentina in the Alerces Nat Park region :)
Which of the 2 fly lines in the description (Orvis Hydros DT Fly Line/Orvis Pro Trout Fly Line Smooth) would be the most versatile line for both nymphing and Dry fly? Great content and amazing footage btw, it's always a great starter to my day!
Awesome to hear, glad you enjoyed this one. :) The Pro Trout would be the best all around line, certainly. The DT is one we use for short fly line/ long leader situations on small streams or short dry (or dry/dropper) fly casts. Hope that helps
@@jensenflyfishing Sure does, thanks!
I find it odd that I enjoyed refusals as much, if not even more, as takes. Nothing beats sight fishing.
The refusals were what made the actual eats just that much more satisfying :) We agree tho - something about a fish screaming and just flat-out refusing at the last second is so fun :)
Excellent video! I'm trying to go this year. Were you in Chile or Argentina? What time of year?
This particular film was shot just inside Argentina. You should come and join us at Magic Waters Lodge in Chile this year. Go to our website here to see more details jensenflyfishing.mykajabi.com/travel
We'll be there between the middle of November and the end of January. There is some great dry fly fishing to be had in December and January.
Great video, love to know who some of the artists that you used for music
They come straight from our license provider - just a grab & go. It's hard to track & share everything given how much content is being edited, scheduled and shared, sorry.
Sweet video! How did you get connected with your guide?
through Orvis Travel. Give Jeremy a call :)
Hagan más vídeos acá,en el spring creek del Rivadavia
That is a gorgeous spring creek - hopefully we can return with the intent of fishing it on our terms and to film it properly :)
Good filming.
Slightly goofy fishing though!
Glad you enjoyed it. How was it goofy? Twitch it how they want it and if this is how they want it, this is how they gets it! :)
Amazing! When was this footage filmed?
2 or 3 years ago now 'ish'. Finally have time to edit! 🍻
What an awesome day! Can you share what guide service you worked with?
We'd prefer not to, actually. The day was wonderful with Aldo but we can't recommend the main company and prefer to sidestep that discussion. Cheers
Who/what are the artists and songs on the song track? Great production, thanks.
Hi & thank you. This edit was a while ago and we can only say they come from Artlist. Cheers
Spectacular video, what river is it?
We can say it's Alerces National Park :)
Great video! What area of Patagonia is this? El Chaltén? Thanks
Thank you - this was in Chubut province :)
What was that bird at the latter part of the video? Did you have to wait to see it or did it just appear there?
That is the Ringed Kingfisher - aka to locals as the Martin. It's not very common but we saw one every other day on average. We had to take the time to film it! Gorgeous.
If you don't mind me asking, what program do you use to edit your videos?
We use a PC program called Cyberlink Powerdirector
Thank you great videos by the way.
the fishing is in the rivadavia river the larches ???
No, sorry, it isn't. We aren't going to name the location but if you stumble upon it we hope it is as good to you! :)
@@jensenflyfishing no problem, I already located, the color of the water is unique in that place, this summer I hope to arrive, very good video !!!
@@saludbucal7429 hope you time it well and it goes wonderfully for you :) (hope you appreciate we have 200K followers on social media)
what region of Patagonia is this?
That's the Cholila Tigre in perfect conditions - which doesn't happen terribly often apparently.
Are those spent caddis amongst your fly????
at what time code?
Futa Valley?
Sorry? Don't know that name but no!
@@jensenflyfishing Futaleufu River. The river valley just north of the Palena. That extinct volcano cone looks like the Tres Monjas in the Futa Valley, but the water did not look familiar. Serious river. 5,000 - 20,000 cfs dropping at 100 feet per mile. Seriously big fish if you have the skills to access them. Drains into Lago Yelcho. Ask Eduardo. Off of the Palena there is a gorgeous, gorgeous river that I have kayaked, but always wanted to fish. Let me know if you want an intro to that region.
@@martyg4483 we'd love to get through that region but we are here with Eduardo and to feature this region - so many waters and so little time. Hopefully next year? :)
Nice film. Better without the music
Oh, times and styles change through the years this was put out...
