    Thank you for the video. It was very helpful. We just purchased a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan from the dealership & during inspection of the vehicle I asked about the spare tire. 2 salesmen said it didn't come with one because it's a new car & all you have to do is call AAA nowadays. They knew nothing about the car🤦‍♂️. We asked if it came with a DVD player & they said it didn't, but it infact does🤦‍♂️. Thanks again 🙌

    So the only thing holding the spare tire in place under the car is a cable? What if that cable snaps while someone is driving down the highway and the spare tire falls out and tumbles under the van?

    Thanks for sharing! That was easy to follow. I bought a Caravan from Enterprise a few years ago, and got a flat yesterday. Followed your directions and found out I only had an air pump in the back. No tool, and not even a spare tire! 🤦🏻‍♂️

      I agree. I'm guessing it's because of the stow and go seats? I'm not sure. My KIA Sedona's rear seats fold into the floor and there's still room to attach the spare to the undercarriager...so who knows. I do think this is pretty ridiculous. There's just waaaaay to many steps.

      My old van did just that. The mechanism was in the "rear trunk" area under the carpet. You hand turned a large funky knob. It lowered the tire underneath. Fairly easy to get to. Safer than pulling it out on the driver's side ....if on the side of the road in traffic.
      This was either in a 1991 caravan or a 2000 voyager, or 2011 caravan.

    Something he doesn't show in the video is that you need to let the cable slack out A LOT. A whole lot, or you will not have enough slack to let you properly remove the tire from its holder. Let the tire down. Then pull it out a little, then let it down more, pull it out more. And keep doing this until til it's out far enough. You don't want to just crank out a bunch of slack without pulling it out from under the car a bit each time because the cable can become bound up in its mechanism if you don't keep it taught. So, crank a little, pull a little. Repeat.

    DON'T FORGET TO WIND THE CABLE BACK UP BEFORE DRIVING AWAY! It will drag and break. I say that, because nobody, when you're stuck alongside the road, is going to take the time to put the flat tire back inside the case. You're going to throw it into the back of the van and be on your way. So, don't forget to wind that thing back up.

  • @peterchannelpeter8581
    @peterchannelpeter8581 2 года назад +4

    I got a flat during a snow storm a few years ago. Everything was easy and straight forward until it came to the mechanism that holds the tire.
    It was rusted to the point that it would not fold to release the tire. Luckily I had penetrating oil and some tools to make it fold. I have since kept the spare tire in a bag in the cargo area. I cant describe what a dilema that was to do in a snow storm nevermind that I had to lie down in slush and snow to get the spare out from under the van. IMO a poor design.

    You're just talking about how to take a tire down away from a vehicle but not actually showing us how to take your tire off when it only keeps spinning when there's no lock nut and there ain't no anti-lock on it so how do we keep the car from moving and we can't get a jack underneath it and it's house completely down on the ground but it still spends

    • @kellyfinch1832
      @kellyfinch1832 2 года назад

      What I meant to say is you only supposed to lift the tire up so far up to get the lug nuts but the tire keeps spinning even though it's on the ground I'm putting so much force on it and that's how strong are not telling people how to take a tire out from underneath the car or taking things out of glove box you don't need to do all that we need to take the tire off somehow if we can't get underneath the car of a Dodge Caravan sport 2002 or any other car tag won't go further even though you got new Springs and whatever we should be able to get in there and take it off that's what people are asking and you're talkin to take your tire down and I'll from underneath the same way to do a video man you better do it over and listen to the people talking to you read between the lines or son you'll get it soon

    • @davewilson1411
      @davewilson1411 9 месяцев назад

      @@kellyfinch1832 While the car is still completely on the ground, the weight of it holds everything in place, use the lug wrench and loosen each of the lug nuts. The weight of the van keeps the wheel from spinning, so you can get some leverage to loosen the lug.
      Once lugs are loosened, then you jack the car up and get the tire off the ground. Once tire is off the ground, you then remove the lug nuts completely. IF you don't want to spin the lugs by hand here, place the spare tire up against the bottom left of the flat tire. Put lug wrench on a lug nut and spin. As the flat tire tries to spin from the torque, the spare tire wedged against it will prevent it from spinning. IF not, use your left hand to push the spare against the flat tire while using your right hand to operate the lug wrench.

What about a sidewall blowout, your screwed!! Cost me $140.00 for just the wheel rim due to the bizarre bolt pattern that only fits 3 cars in existence. These engineers get bonuses for ripping off the consumer! Their excuse is, they want to make the car lighter for better gas mileage. I'm not making this stuff up, I have a family member who is an engineer for G.M. Sure, you can still buy a donut from the dealer for approx. $500.00!!
