  • This Technics SA-700 is the beast to test your speakers with, powerful and really great sound,
Rated @ 100 w but clocked the receiver at 130w, distortion started @90w but who’s counting, I’d say if your listening above 40 w, you must be sitting a mile away, this particular unit had cosmetic issues along with FM stereo light was not working that was easily fixed, this was a long project for me, ran into big problems with the potentiometer VR801, hard to get at so took some work but you’ll get the hang of it fast enough. Hope you enjoyed my video and PLS subscribe to my channel.

A beautiful piece of vintage receiver. I've owned the exact model 44 years

Nice and roomy in there; you don't often see these higher power Technics receivers this nice. Your customer will be pleased. Thanks for your time!

I love your attention to detail joe, went above and beyond with taking time to straighten that back and bottom plate for me. I never even noticed. Glad you are a perfectionist. Great job fixing all the issues with the receiver. Am antenna looks and works great. All the tunner issues sorted out nicely. Great video!

Hoping you can help- restoring an SA700 and someone has previously run a 47uf cap (on the back of the pcb no less) from the bottom leg of C450 (normally unused) over to R205. Can you tell me what this was intending to accomplish? Thanks so much in advance.

This is fantastic video and I gladly subbed after this. So I own this one and an SA-500. My 500 has some issues that I would love to fix. Where can I get the info on what all the pots mean? Also, I have the issues in both where the volume pot cuts in and out, and the left channel constantly disappears. Any good way to fix that?

If one channel cuts in and out ..I'd say mostly dirty potentiometer or a lose wire ...could even be soldering that needs retouching.... regardless of the issue..im sure it's nothing major...

@@VintageAudioFever Yeah I think its oxidation honestly. Are you in the US? From the plugs on your wall it looks like US power. I would be more than happy to pay you to document the unit if so. If not I am just not sure how to clean the volume potentiometer on them properly. Also on mine the meter lights not working on the SA500 which is what i use mainly in my studio. Either way, thanks for taking the time to respond.

I am in Moncton NB Canada, I would buy contact cleaner and spray some inside then volume balance switches etc first before I would send it or taking it to anyone....but it's up to you really

I bought a SA-400 and SA-500 two weeks ago (accidentally won both auctions 😅)
came here, because on the 400 the FM-stereo isn't working. reception is 4,7 and with FM-auto engaged, mono-sound is cut off exactly when the tuning needle leaves the marked center range. so that is working fine, but no stereo reception. have to figure out the correct pot for adjustment for the 400. the second issue is, that the balance knob is doing absolutely nothing. and the (little) third issue was covered in your video too. it's that my tuning scale is also off by ~0,5 MHz.
on the SA-500 everything seems to work. but ever knob and switch on the front plate is having contact issues. and in 4 of 5 cases of switching ON the unit, the left channel is not working. my guess is, that the speaker protection relay has an contact issue too.
interesting to see and learn regarding the bias and DC-offset. hope I can figure out more details about it, to at least measure it on my units. and then I have to decide which one I use with my SR-641. the 400 has the same width to place the device on top of each other. but I like the flashy power LED meter of the 500. this is 2cm wider, but has the same height as the tape deck. could place them side by side.
