just realized when they're talking about dates at the Three Broomsticks, Merula looks away from the MC, when the MC looks at the other apprentices, she has a much different face. she must really like the MC but doesn't show it
I personally don’t mind the pairing of Merula as a date for anything because I noticed that she definitely has a soft spot and she does definitely has a crush on the MC but is trying her best to hide it. I personally picked Penny because her actions and statements seem to be much more genuine and suit a love interest more than anyone else’s.
Agreed! But personally I think Penny is too perfect. Merula definitely seems like she needs someone, she needs love in her life and I'm willing to give her that love.

i used to have a hard time picking either penny or merula. but based on the latest HM loading screen, now i can add in my headcanon that penny has got something going on with skye parkins, which what makes it a bit easier for me to let her go and pick merula instead.

It's weird. At first, Merula was my Draco Malfoy, my enemy, my rival. But over time, I grew to feel sorry for her. And I caught on that she's a tsundere and she likes me. Our witty banter is how we love. I tried asking her out during that note sidequest, but life kept me too busy to finish it. Also, Barnaby seems to like you a lot. I find that interesting.

Merula is, well, complicated. _Most_ people who come from her type of background don't have a happy ending no matter how much you try to help, whether it's as simple as burning social bridges and living entirely alone or as extreme as becoming a criminal. I'm not saying don't be with her (she's actually my preferred option due to me liking her almost always persistent honesty), just be rather careful because, as shown by things like the Thestral quest and repeatedly asking if Azkaban prisoners can send/receive letters, she's still got this major issue hanging over her head. Hope we don't meet her parents at any point in time, especially considering our character may not be pure-blood...
It's stupid! Why my friends, my brothers asking my man-character out? How could I trust them then? It's be more correct if we could choose orientation of our character, and don't see all these shit!!!

Yeah I think it's laziness on the producers behalf. They could program a change of who is eligible for dating or romance depending on your characters gender, with a male and a female bisexual or gay option. But that may be too hard on the technological side. Dunno.

I picked Penny since the beginning. I had the highest friend level for her when the ball showed up so I kept picking her.
