      Now it is the size of a normal phone, due to the reduce size, instead of the frequent brick size with the added case…

      At least now the S25 Edge goes for 700€. Frankly, what it should've costed from the get go along with iPhone Air. Both would be gems at 650-700€ but, of course Samsung and Apple have to be greedy.

      I'd disagree with my iphone 13 mini. It's "less phone" in a different way, but the same equation applies. Battery and some features are exchanged for a better form factor. It's not for everyone, but that was never the goal.

    Hot take: I don't think speaker quality on high end phones matters beyond a baseline anymore.
    Everyone has headphones of some sort. Call quality requires a baseline, and the niche instances when you have to use your phone because you don't have a bluetooth speaker lying around to share music; but apart from those the quality of "thump" you get from a phone shouldn't matter all that much.

    Watched MKBHDs video first and then yours and outside of overall good production quality and checking out all the boxes required by Samsung, I appreciate that you actually added some real value by mentioning the real world, current price of S25 Ultra, and you also said a few words about silicon-carbon batteries, coz it's a big shame the biggest phone manufacturers don't use that tech yet. Those two things change picture a lot in my opinion. These details, they clearly define if you just want to make a quick and profitable video, or a video that brings awareness , shows different perspectives and makes people think.

      Right. For unfamiliar folks, you unscrew the top part of the pot and put ground coffee (not beans) into a removable funnel which is in the bottom part, no filter needed.
      So in total, AI made 3 mistakes: 1: you don't put in beans but ground coffee; 2: you don't put them into the top part, but into the bottom part; 3: you don't need no damn filter.

      @Laoguang09: phones are already absurdly difficult to hold in one hand when you try to reach the corner of a screen, especially slim phones slip like crazy out of my hands. Im currently using a 10.000mAh battery case for my S24 ultra, some say it feels like a brick, but for me the phone is actually more useful because holding it with one hand has become a lot easier due to the thick case that has some nice structure on the back.

    Very good point at the end here, if it was a silicon carbide battery it wouldve been a different conversation, as the main drawback here is the small battery

      @0LLy796 I definitely agree, but it's a fairly new tech so it's not outlandish that it's not in the 25 / ultra but I expect it next year

      @nigelthornberry7513 three to five years isn't much for battery tech I think, as it's much more a matter of chemistry research and less new than the rest of phone stuff, but I do agree that they're lagging behind

  • @lettuceplus1
    @lettuceplus1 11 months ago +540

    i think the real answer here is investors. they want to see tech companies do new things, but phones have already reached an absurd level of form factor that makes innovation hardly possible. i dont think it's bad to branch out and try doing new things like this, but there's a very clear tradeoff and you know the phone is sacrificing all the features of the sister device at the same price point just to fit in a smaller frame. it's obviously going to be criticized, but samsung doesnt care because people are bound to buy it anyways and they can say "hey, we're innovating!" in a market that's hitting physical limits on what they can add

    • @kryptonian69

      @riku861 just to be clear i dont agree with it either, but i can only imagine this is their way of pushing "new" tech into the field. this is a far cry from innovation, but it's enough of a change in the lineup to act like they're doing anything of interest

      Edge looked and felt great until after purchase when the edge kept triggering the screen in fullscreen mode and the glass was so exposed above the frame it was an accident waiting to happen.
      Would have bought a Xiaomi long ago if they hadn't copied Samsung's exposed edge idea.

    If I'm paying the same price, I definitely want those features. Even if I don't use them. Because, as you said, this is a device I'm keeping for at least 5 years. I may not wan them *now* but I might want them later. And since I'm paying the same price, I may as well get them. And while the camera may be "good enough" I'd rather get the better camera, especially since, again, it's the same price. And I don't think there's ever been anyone who said "you know what this phone needs? A smaller battery! .... for the same price!"

      That and also the more features they remove, the more likely they are to catch one that you actually WERE using. Removing the IR blaster didn’t piss me off because I was using it, it pissed me off because I knew “desperately removing features out of desperation to be Apple” was becoming a business “strategy” that was eventually going to enshitificate the phone and remove features I actually did use. Next thing you know, no more expandable storage, no more headphone jack, no more 3rd party ROMs, no more 10x optical zoom, no more bluetooth pen, VMs for desktop operating systems and remote desktop support are both garbage now (iphones and ipads are literally better at the latter now than anything oneui offers thanks to jump desktop), Dex is all but dead except for the Galaxy S Tab and even then who knows how long it will last? On and on the list goes and now that all of the money is going into this AI ponzi scheme combined with the obsession with cutting costs everywhere else we’re almost certainly not going to see any good features getting added in the foreseeable future - if ever at all.
      It’s wild how short the timeframe of android flagship phones actually being good lasted. Now your illusion of choice is between an iPhone and a bunch of imitation iDroids, the most blatant of which being the latest Galaxy Ultra.

      I actually thought about that before he mentioned it😅. Your mom isn't gonna play Genshin Impact on max settings. It'd make sense to get her a rarer and less functional phone that's more aesthetic.

    That camera bump on an ultra "slim" phone should be illegal!

    • @JayneDoeAFK
      @JayneDoeAFK 11 months ago +31

      Agreed. If slimness is the gimmick, might as well go all in on it. Feels incredibly pointless otherwise.

      Especially the gap between the back of the phone and the camera bump. 3:56

      @barabbasiii 11 months ago +9

      Literally. The thickness of a phone should be measured from the front screen to the tip of the camera module, which (I would hope) would incentivise you companies to make a phone that is flush/flat on the back. Like the RedMagic 10 Pro does! (Which is pretty good looking phone in my opinion)

      Everyone’s freaking out over how thin the Fold 7 is looking to be as if making sure it’s impossible to have anything but shitty battery, cameras, speakers, and the most fragile device on the market is somehow a feature, let alone something any sane person would pay $2k for.
      Don’t pretend Android users are so far above this - if they were, the market wouldn’t be completely fubar with no going back.

      I like the idea of making thinner phones. The smaller the tech the better, which gives room to a bigger battery. The only thing that really matters to most people is having a phone that lasts

      @s13kuminachu just buy one.
      But I'm guessing you want everything that makes a smartphone smart like apps and a decent camera
      You can't have both. Besides those buttons actually sucks to use you just miss it because you wanna be different.

    Bro, iPhone 17 review felt like pure praise, but when it’s Samsung you cut it short and focus only on the negatives 🤔.
    Looks more like Apple promotion than a neutral review.
    People actually prefer Samsung these days - give us balance, not bias.

    3:33 So what it basically means is that you really want to spend a 1000 dollars on a phone but you don't want those features...so here's the phone with less features and same price. What a brilliant idea.🤯

    You know what, I'm tired of everyone using the "who asked" as an argument. I ASKED. I want thinner phones. I want a phone that doesn't look like a god damn boulder in my pocket. Phones are already so inflated in screen size, at least make them thinner. A slight hit to battery is worth it for me.

      when he don't able to fold that tab s9ultra w aluminum which is also more thin than this just 5.5mm n 13 inch then how u expect that this phone breaks

    • @Unknown_Genius
      @Unknown_Genius 11 months ago

      @vaibhavkashyap4079 Just because one phone doesn't break it doesn't mean that another that's thicker doesn't break.
      What do you attribute it to that it won't be able to break? That both are aluminium? There's not a singular aluminium, depending on what alloy specifically is used and how it's further processed it can range from breaking instantly to being what feels like indestructible, they can easily make it lighter to boost the sale point at the cost of it breaking by far easier just to save a gram.
