- Video 2 in the Triton X17 Aluminum Boat review for the Great Tin Boat Search of 2022, so before you buy a new or used aluminum (I call them tin) boat, make sure and watch this! Today is the 8th video in the series, so far we have reviewed the G3 Sportsman 1810 powered by a 4 stroke Yamaha 115 and the Vexus AVX 1980 powered by the Mercury 4 Stroke 150. We will review a bunch of tin boats over the course of this review, including Ranger, Xpress, Lund, Polar Craft, Crestliner, SeaArk, Tracker, Gator Trax, Avid, and whatever else you guys come up with and help me find.
We are not going to start grading the boats until we have reviewed several so we have a good sense of what should be expected in a $30,000 - $40,000 aluminum boat. And YES, we know some of these are higher than that, and we will discuss when we review the more expensive boats, so stay tuned!

Avid Boats You Might want to look at those, just saying.
love to
Getting a wider hull will help the tipsy feeling.
A 60 inch bottom will lean more than 80" bottom like the Vexus tin rigs. The Vexus boats all run 80" bottoms.
Also length of the boat will play into effect here as well.
Since majority of weight in tin rigs is in the rear it's why there is more lean when comparing the back to the front in lean.
I like to think of a balance beam when looking at lists. The more weight you have on one side vs the other it will take more weight to affect the balance when you are moving weight around on the lighter side.
Where as if you are moving weight around on the heavy side it takes less weight and adjustment to affect the balance.
As for electronics mounting, getting a transom saver and mounting the transducer further away from the hull helps get it into cleaner water. I can get depth readings while at WOT. Side and down is also pretty clean to, something else that can help is making sure there is a smooth transition off the bottom hull to the transducer. Some people grind down the transom welds to make it smooth, I use JB weld marine grade to add material in front of the welds to make it as smooth as possible.
Also I had my box lids remade so I can run slam latches. Money well spent.
Hi, where can you find the bottom width you mention? Beam is readily available but I agree with what you are saying on stability. Do you happen to know ranger rt 188 bottom width?
@@paulryndak9916 finding the hull width is kinda guess work for most manufacturers as they dont list it. Easy to find it is to measure it yourself. Measure at the transom and your measuring corner to corner.
Corner = side walls meets the hull.
I don't know it exact but sometimes you can guess the bottom hull width from the beam. Since the beam should never be narrower than the hull. 80" beams generally land around 60-70" widths depending on how the side walls are built (glass boats are the exception to this since the handrail and/or rub rail is generally oversized a lot) there are other exceptions to such as custom built/ordered boats. Where Im at we run jet boats and one of the top players Alweld will custom make a 1866 (18ft long 66 inch bottom), or 1966 or a 1970 they will even go to a 2070. I think the biggest they can go is like 2480. Can't remember if their jig caps at 70 or 80. Most common and popular design is 1860 and 1960. The 1752s are close but they fall off once kids are involved, just a little bit to small. There are more sizes they make too but just the jist.
Sometimes you can get lucky and find the dimensions on forums or posts.
Just remember inside the hull is not going to be the real hull width as there are bracings and other things that make the inside narrower than the hull width
@@nathanmistler1186 ok thanks - yeah the Vexus are 94”-95” beams for aluminum, ranger is 92”,
@@paulryndak9916 According to the Googs, RT 188 is 65" bottom. That's a crazy offset from hull width to beam.
Get well! Thoughts and prays!
Glad to see you moving freer, heal up.
According to the Googs, this boat has a 64" hull width so I would expect a lot of list
Great content Ken! I have a 2022 G3 1710 sportsman love it. I fish small lakes here in central Texas.
