How could the device give a reliable reading while you didn't control the backlash of the coupling ??

This will not work on a vertical lineshaf machine with a rigid coupling. The pump shaft can not be rotated until it is coupled Also, the shaft does not sit on true center. How do you align such a machine if it is out of alignment.
