  • @rrrrr7782

set up change: softer springs, maybe toe out the left rear. my thought is softer springs allow the suspension to extend with the weight transfer in the final corner when you lift off, versus stiffer springs almost pulling the tire up as the weight moves over the front/left on the lift; toe out maybe so that the tire angle is matching where the oversteer wants to send the rear. like it's fighting the oversteer by pointing the tire out a little so it turns the car rather than flexing the side wall.

Great insight. I been binging on your videos. I think number 1 is changing the gearing to a shorter one as your just shifting into 6th gear and then quickly braking on the grandstand straight aways. There's several ways to correct oversteering in a car; soften the front end in dampening of the struts as maybe there wasn't time to change springs or adjust the sway bars like changing the holes or adjust the camber via camberplates would take too long. Adjusting the swaybar bias to the rear more since rear wheel drive, increase tire pressure, as more tire pressure in the front would decrease sidewall rolling and decrease grip, lower tire pressure in the rear would increase grip. Changing tires to change the compound would be an another way, harder in the front or softer rear. I didn't know how much time elapsed and with a 2 driver car and you mentioning used tires rules that out. I'm thinking only 1-2 adjustments would of been made just to tweak the rotation. I think that 2-4 psi was lowered in the rear tires.
Autocrosser here for 25 years. I want jump into sim racing as i haven't autocrossed since the Porsche Parade in 2018. I want more seat time and be able to drive race cars as the eSport equipment has come a long ways.

I can't get enough of this kind of POV with explanation video. Thank you for taking the time.
And now for the challenge question:
My best guess is that you want to increase contact of the rear tires with the road in order to reduce oversteer during trail braking. To do that you might reduce rear tire pressure and/or soften the rear springs or anti-roll bar.
    * now I have to go research this a lot more to see if I could be close.

Best guess is that you put slightly more toe in on the rear to stabilize it - perhaps compromising slightly on top speed.
Based on the nervousness of the rear and the mid entry oversteer you had I also think you soften the anti roll bar slightly. That should also have helped you ride the kerbs more since it would give more suspension compliance.

Like in 1.8, only the McLaren 720S had more wear on the fronts... I would think the tire makers and the car manufacturers would be on the same page. Did ACC mess up? Here's my setup guess, as a total amateur lol. I think rear diff was loosened a bit, but a slightly firmer sway bar to pick up some of the slack, and possibly no suspension change. I'd love to know how close I am but I get it's confidential too! I just started learning how to set up my cars in sim a few weeks ago so this is all coming from thin air. 😄
Thanks again for sharing! I hope I can learn to approach tracks with the same clinical analysis eventually.

Amazing video, is really amazing to see a drivers view. Do you feel that the abs in real life is alot different to that we have in iracing? And there is more coasting?

I drive pretty similar. I’d say that the “on throttle” performance can improve a bit. There’s a very specific “timing” involved in iRacing throttle application where as it’s a lot more forgiving irl and you can make the car dance a little more with throttle

wow, i didn't even realize you were driving at NOLA, i was there driving in the skip barber F4 series that same weekend. The marbles that you GT cars leave are a nightmare for our cars. even when i stay away from them the pickup on the rubber is insane. and the lines that might be best for your cars (like turn 6 or turn 16) are not as good for us, but the grip is better so we had to drive a little weird all weekend

    • @danielmorad

For sure. It was weird and not forgiving. See you in Austin?

Be cool to see something like this from Your stint in Race 2 at COTA. if that footage is allowed to be shown.

Your vidoes are consistently informative and entertaining. If you haven't done a video on where to look when driving during turns and such, that would be very useful. I don't feel like i'm using my vision properly/efficiently, I find myself looking at the wrong places during some phases of a turn. keep up the amazing content!

This was great! Definitely learned a few things. Like I had no idea the steering wheel moved! And the brake bias screen! Aris, Kunos, are you watching?! LOL Also, the idea of setting up the car for the end of the stint, not the start. Good stuff!
