Cheers, Matt. I’m glad I “discovered “ your channel. I very much enjoy your right to the point approach. I’d appreciate you shared some dry land exercise recommendations for each stroke. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Hey Matt -- great work on these! I'm curious about Peaty's body position during the breath -- obviously super high out of the water and face turned up all the way to looking straight forward. I've been trying to emphasize high body position with breast stroke pull drills as a way to get higher on the breath during my ordinary breast stroke, which then translates into more undulation with a deeper chest drive into streamline. How do I work toward the right level of undulation without suffering the inefficiency of too much "up and down" motion or too much "bobblehead" motion? Is Peaty overcoming suboptimal form with his incredible strength, or would you say his form is nearly perfect? Thanks -- Zak
Also -- remind me to work on getting more shoulder shrug a la Lilly King. I keep meaning to work on that. Great meet for me last weekend by the way -- those were PBs in the breast stroke 50 and 100 (as an adult anyway), and I'm looking forward to more! z
Great questions @Zakslab What I have found with breaststroke is it's all about where your hips are. You really want them to be up at the surface as much as possible. Some people are super flexible and can come up high on their breath without their hips dropping. Other people aren't as flexible and if they come up high their hips drop. You gotta do what works best for you. I've seen fast breaststrokers do it both ways. Peaty is super strong and probably pretty flexible too. He's able to get up high without adding extra drag. When it comes to finding the right balance with your undulation, you want to make sure your hips stay high when you come up to take the breath. When you shoot forward in your line, you just want to just slip under the water and press your chest down so your hips can pop up a little. Have someone record you so you can see what things are actually looking like. I bet your coach would be happy to take care of that :)
Ha! Yeah, you do want to pray while you swim/race breaststroke. At least I do! HAHAHA!😂 (I mean that spiritually to get me through it. LOL) Thanks for the tips, they’re GREAT! 🏊♀️

Hopefully these drills will make it so you don't feel like you need to pray to get through the swim :)
