    How times have changed in 2020 when I bought my Bosch 800 series dishwasher. Today both the 500 and the 800 series have the third rack. The 500 series (as well as the 300 series) is rated at 44DB (Silence Plus). The 800 series is rated at 42DB (Super Silence Plus). The biggest differences between the 500 and 800 series is that the 500 series has mechanical push buttons while the 800 series has electronic touch keys. While the 500 series has Auto Open Dry, the 800 series has a new system called Crystal Dry. Having two dishwashers looks like this is a household that either has a big family or does alot of entertaining. When demand for use is not high, I would recommend running both machines on a rotational basis so that they both receive equal or close to equal usage.

    For those of you looking at these dishwashers in 2015, this is NOT the 500 that she is comparing to the 800. She first says she's comparing the 300 to the 800 and then changes it to the 500. The thing that clued me in right away was the decibel number. The 500 has a decibel of 44, as well as the 800. The dishwasher on the left says 46 decibels. And the 500 DOES have the 3rd tray, just like the 800, and the controls on the left dishwasher are NOT the layout of the 500. I think this review needs to be changed to the correct model comparisons. So do NOT be swayed by this review if you are indeed trying to compare the Bosch 500 to the Bosch 800.

    Damn, this video is 9 years old. I just bought a Bosch 800 a week ago. Really like it so far. Don't have to pre-wash anything other than scraping off food particles. Just throw it in there and everything comes out sparkly. I like using the pods as well. Quiet as a mouse and the indicator light is a nice touch to let you know it's running because it's pretty stealth. My only gripe is I got the model that doesn't have wifi connectivity. Would've liked to control the washer from my phone.

    Thanks for taking the time to make the video and to post it. I have been wanting to have a better view of the interior of an 800 and you gave me a good opportunity to do that. (No one in my city is stocking the 800 series.)

    The dishwasher on the left is a 630 series, predecessor to the current 640 series on the right. Those drop downs are cup shelves, usually see them in the upper rack.

    Thank you for your review. I just purchased an 800 Bosch and can't wait for it to be installed which will be this coming Wednesday. The "quiet" is one of the many things I am looking forward to. By the way I never get people who make a comment that has nothing to do with what the presenter is trying to say. They are looking all over your kitchen and making useless comments about something that has nothing to do with what we originally tuned into to look at regarding your generous review. These people, I feel, should just not comment. Oh well, they just need to be ignored because they are truly showing how rude and ignorant they are. I see this all the time on Utube and some of them come out with vile comments. Really the limit. Anyway thank you for taking the time out of your day to do a review which I really appreciate. *_*

  • @TuBizzleFoRizzle
    @TuBizzleFoRizzle 9 лет назад +1

    This is helpful. Interestingly, Bosch's website shows that the 500-series dishwasher also has the upper 3rd rack. (It also shows that the bigger upper rack is adjustable up / down, so that you can put bigger glasses in that rack.) The only apparent difference that I've seen between the 500 and 800 is that the 800 has one additional wash cycle.

    Why two dishwashers?

  • @CarMaintenanceGuy
    @CarMaintenanceGuy 4 года назад +1

    I have the 800 model. Best dishwasher I ever owned. I bought it not knowing that it had a built-in water softener. I am SO GLAD that I have this. My water hardness is at a level 6 here. HORRIBLE water. Culligan wants nearly $3,000 to install a nice water softener. At least our dishes are clean. My co-workers ragged on me for spending such an outrageous amount of money on a dishwasher stating that any cheap dishwasher will do the trick. YEAH, RIGHT. Like $300-600 dishwashers all have water softeners built in. GOOD LUCK finding that.

    • @BDNADLER
      @BDNADLER 2 года назад

      Yes, a $300 to $600 dishwasher will do a decent job washing dishes. A budget dishwasher is also more likely to break down. I know someone who had a pump failure on such a machine. Now, where are your savings? Answer, they have been eaten up by the first repair, which occurred about 18 months after the machine was installed and put into service.

    • @CarMaintenanceGuy
      @CarMaintenanceGuy 2 года назад

      @@BDNADLER I'm done with those cheap dishwashers. I installed that Bosch years ago and it still work amazing. I bought it on eBay as a scratch and dent for $1500. Stop being so cheap. You're not a pharoah. You don't take your money with you when you die. Buy all top of the line stuff. You could have a heart attack and die tomorrow. And for what? To have mediocre, cheap appliances? NO THANKS. I'm happy having all expensive stuff in my house. I'm not moving anywhere, so I stay here enjoying it all. If you move every year or rent, then don't buy it. Who can afford rent increases anyway? I know I can't. It's cheaper to own a home and stay put.

    Thanks for the great comparison between the 500 and 800. One note, I think the 800 is the 800 plus because you have the water softener. Also, the 800 should have a red beam the shines to the floor to tell you that it's running. Lowes seems to have a pretty good price on the 500 and 800 this week. Looking at getting one. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this post- right now they've changed the 500 so it has that top rack- would you then recommend it? Also do they get things equally clean? Like if your kids are clearing the table, you know they barely scrape off before they put stuff in the dishwasher so with my GE it comes back out as dirty as it went in. Would they come out clean from your Bosch? Still 2 years later? Thanks!!

    At 3:08 those things are for holding large stem wine glasses in place. As you mentioned, there is less height due to the Vario drawer (the knife and fork drawer) unlike the 500 you can't fit large glasses in the top with the Vario drawer in place, therefore you place the large glass in the bottom and use either auto 35-45 or delicates 40/45 (depending on model).

    You may also not know that the filter on the bottom of the dishwashers comes out so that you can clean it in the sink. These dishwashers don't automatically clean their filters like all other American brands do like GE, Whirlpool etc. You have to take it out and clean it periodically like once a month or so or you will start seeing the dishwasher not clean well. If you see it not cleaning well then take the filter out and clean it. It's easy peezy. Just look at your manual. It sounds like a lot but it's not.

    (cont) @3:08sec ...Those auxiliary racks are for dessert cups or tea cups or small serving trays (butter dish top, large wine glasses, support rack, etc. Depending on how you have your dishwasher loaded, they're quite handy. @4:17sec. The dishwasher shows a "0" because it acts as an electronic "The dishes have been cleaned" sign. I don't know why this bothers so many people. . One last thing.. You should get the Bosch Benchmark series dishwasher that has a built-in water softener. That helps clean much better. I bought that one and love it. It's worth the money. Plus it has built-in lights. You buy special rock salt made by Finish and pour it in the bottom. It lasts a very long time. You set the dishwasher setting based on your water hardness. My dishes always come out spectacular. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy the same unit. Google: Bosch shx9pt75uc. That's the model I bought. It is awesome!

    Why did you put the glasses on the bottom rack tines? That's where plates, pots and pans etc. go. I have the Bosch Ascenta and it has the exact same racks as your Bosch 500. Also, it seems that you don't know that the silverware basket on the 500 model separates into 2. You can use them as the long way that you have them or take them apart and put them back to back to make a big basket style bigger than your 800 silverware holder or you can use them separately just take them apart. You can take them and move them anywhere on the bottom rack to make room for an item such as a casserole dish on the side. The hole that can't be blocked is the vent and on my ascenta it's on the left side not the right. That's the only difference on the inside of the ascenta versus the 500. The silverware tray on the 500 also has the net thingamajig that you flip up and cover the space and then you can put the silverware thru the holes to keep them separated better. You can keep it down and just use it with the open space. It doesn't seem like you've looked at the manual that came with the dishwashers. You really should. Oh yeah the Ascenta like I have doesn't have a place for salt to soften the water that's another difference.

    I noticed the timer for the dishwasher says 134 min. I can't believe over 2 hours to wash dishes is energy efficient. Or does energy efficint just mean water... I think I will stick with my old dishwasher..takes a lot less time..and the dishes come out clean

    • @JustlikeEric
      @JustlikeEric 8 лет назад

      +Frank meccia They are more energy efficient because they are longer cycle times. When you have a quick cycle on your dishwasher it actually uses more water to do it quicker. A lot of dishwashers have a "quick wash" option which in effect will use more energy and water to clean faster.

But the whole rack's height is adjustable if you squeeze the pulley clasps on sides of the rack. Is the 500 adjustable this way too?. @1:00sec The 500's silverware rack can be unfastened and refastened so it's shaped like a box just like your other d/washer @1:26sec, why try to squeeze dishes that don't fit into that area They fit fine elsewhere

      There's only 2 of us but we entertain often and our future dream house will have 2 dishwashers. We ALWAYS have dishes piled up after a party while the dishwasher is full and running. Yep, first world problem, but what's the big deal if you have the space? Instead of popping $2k for a Miele, you can spend under $1k each for 2 KitchenAids, or whatever non-euro brand you desire.

      Its very simple. Because the IDIOTS AT THE EPA ruined the dishwashers, making them take forever to wash. If the cycle times were 1 hour like the old days, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

    Terrible video. Moving too fast and jumping around.

    Just bought a 500, and it is horrible! Doesn’t have a heat element, like my last Bosch, which I loved. The dishes remain WET-so it’s a glorified $500 dish drainer. It’s crap!!! Such a bummer, since I’m 70 years old and will wind up washing and drying dishes by hand before replacing this European pice is junk that supposedly is helping to eliminate climate change. Such a disappointment.

    Stopped watching due to the crying child. I know RUclips isn't the most professional of settings, but why are you in so much of a hurry to record your review that you cannot attend to your child first? Also, it's probably a good idea to plan out what you're going to say during the review instead of just winging it and providing commentary ad hoc.
