A bit of construction site info for you and anyone who is using expanding foam, maybe for the first time. A: the cans are made to be used upside down. If used the other way up, you may run out of pressure before you have got all of the material from the can. 2: it cures with moisture, so a sprits with an atomiser spray bottle can set the surface when you have it to desired size. And want it to slow down-stop. I know no-one asked but sometimes you don't know what you don't know until you do. 😝 I hope I have not masplained anything and offended minimum amount of people.👍
Hey folks, this is going to be amazing. I'm the voice actor that voiced the Great Unclean One for Totalwar Warhammer 3. I've also recently got back into Warhammer with my kids, so we're excited to see this finished build. Also expanding foam for the win.
That's awesome. I feel like we've met before but you maybe had some grizzly indigestion or a bubonic plague, you didn't sound so well at the time... lol
Thanks for mention! Yours is looking HUMONGOUS, which can only be a good thing. Also, how are there not more 3 headed Nurgle models out there? Can't wait to see more. ❤
Material recommendation: Bohs foam clay. It's non toxic, air drying, sticks to card, foam and stuff, and is great for soft, rounded, organic forms. I've been really enjoying it for scenery builds lately.
Please wear a respirator when hot cutting foams. Many of them can give off rather toxic fumes and we really don´t want you guys getting sick from doing awesome builds and paintjobs for us.
Cling film hung over a washing line covered in PVA work amazingly as skin and if you cover it in flock before you paint it it looks like flakes of skin or patchy sores depending on the paint job
Ok Guy and Hattie... three ongoing series I'm fully commited to now. 1 - Huge Unclean One; 2 - Hero Quest; and 3 - Space Marine Chapters (Is this dead?). This one is absolutely amazing (as are the other ones) and incredibly creative.
Using a model railroader technique for mountains, they rough out the shape with foam and wads of newspaper. Kind of how you did here. But they coat it with woodland scenics plaster cloth. It's basically what cast are made of. Cut strips dunk them in water and smooth them on. Less messy and quicker than decoupage or paper maché. Plus it'll have a more durable shell. Then if you're feeling up to it you can use bondo to really give it strength. I imagine you'll be transporting this around so the stronger the better.
as a certified Nurgle Enjoyer i approve and i may even make a titanic Great uncle one day as well. I think if nothing else having it as a terrain piece for some games would be awesome
The lore reason the minis are a very different scale to the artwork is that a great unclean one has the ability to change its size, I believe, from reading the Dark Imperium series
Fantastic vid and free from garbage paid paint reviews etc. When the rest of youtube goes to the crapper, i can always pray at the altar of hatty and guy for quality viewing. Thank you both, you are legends!
As a Nurgle player myself, this thing is already a bit hard to look at. So you're on the right track for a disgusting, hulking plague monstrosity! So exciting to watch
That's the kind of project I love! My two favourite techniques to simulate organic stuff in terrain making are wet towels and cotton. You can stretch a dried towel to create decayed skin texture. Cotton also gives a nice organic texture using thin coats of it, and the end fibers does a nice effect too. You can apply both with pva glue or mod podge. And a trick about insulation foam I love: to use plastic bottles, blisters, whatever... as a mold to get a polyurethane shape of my choice.
Cool project. You defnetly need to go crazy on tiny details to make him look like a proper gigantic monster instead of just a big lad. If theres enough room I would do a tiny garden of nurgle inbetween the heads or on his shoulders, tendet too by a nurgling or two, with a tiny fence and tiny dead tree.
After seeing some of your models in person at the store they’re displayed at I’m really excited to see this project come to fruition, your models are amazing really inspire my own conversions.
looks like you guys had a great time, excellent video! side note to those reading this, if you use the expanding foam, DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR HANDS. I made this mistake about 15 years ago and, no exaggeration, it took over a week to come off of my hands.
It’s so fitting that the imperial titan was made using an official kit and instructions; the ork titan was made out of scrap tools, toys, and instruments; and the nurgle titan is made out of nasty gooey foam
I remember seeing you post this on Instagram asking what the mound of styrofoam was going to be. I was WAY off by guessing the watchtower location in Lord of the Rings where Frodo was stabbed by the Nazguul. Now hearing it’s a “Greatest Unclean One” has me absolutely mind blown, since I had recently got into assembling Deathguard units BECAUSE of your Nurgle Tank video! Honestly can’t wait to see how this big behemoth turns out :)
I loved the warlord titan, can wait to see how the biggest of thicc bois comes out. Please please PLEASE put the videos in a playlist or label the parts though, watching them as they come out its easy to tell the order but for the newcomers/returnee's it would definitely help in case they accidently skip an episode.
love that you're doing a longer series again! if i had to give any input for the future, it'd be this: do not skimp on the fat rolls! they add a ton of weight and uniqueness to the modern GUO kit and could probably be done all during the clay sculpting phase. a bit more roundness as a whole could help as well but that's up to your design ofc
I love love love, the longer style videos, it has way much more info and process added into it. At some points, 15 minutes video just leave you wanting more, but this feels gratifying and actually nice when you watch it.
Hey, I am so excited to see how this comes out. I love your videos. You guys really brought me into painting and I respect the heck out of it. I’m excited to see how this pans out. You guys have a great rest your day.
I've made a few great unclean ones from scratch and I've found that paper mache and air dry clay work really well for the flesh, tentacles, organs, etc. Hot glue also works well for organs and bulbous extrusions. Also sticks, tree bark and cheap Dinosaur or animal toys work well for details.
For good skin texture, get some liquid latex, it's good for fx makeup prosthetics that look like skin. It'll peel off anything smooth, so make some thin sheets over cling film, feathering the edges, or other shapes from moulds. You could sculpt the face in clay, make a mask from it. Better yet, do a face cast of Guy in plaster (alginate and straws up the nose) and make the unclean one face on that.
A couple weeks ago i was cutting some trees that needed to go because they were blocking light to other plants. I found a somewhat dead stick that had some very interesting damage it had healed up when it was less dead. So i took a couple photographs and even a video in case the photos werent so good. Had forgotten i did that untill i saw this video. Your great unclean one is looking pretty great so far!

I think a really cool idea for the heads would be to make each one show an aspect of what different burgle demons look like such as an insect looking one, a grotesque wide mouthed one smiling, and one that looks more like a plant is taking over the structure of the skull. I'd really appreciate a bit of a tutorial vibe when it comes to Milliput though if you use any. I want to love that stuff, but it's just sooooo messy.
For dead skin, old leather like in vintage wallets or boots makes for pretty convincing effect with some thickness. Often it can be a bit stiff, but it can be loosened up with hot steam from a kettle. Also for the body I'd recommend a powered single-bladed hand saw (long, not rotary) meant for PVC/drywall instead of a plastic burner. While also being easier to sculpt with, the fumes will be insane from plastic+insulation, and the wooden sticks can catch the burner thread making it bend or break. Lovely video as always :D
Regarding the sword handle a thick heavy duty chain that is wrapped around and cutting into the wrist creating a load of oozing wounds. Also if you have any left over teeth from your landraider I think they would really add to the model and tie it into your Nurgle army
The real question, is anything on the lazy susan CD? In all seriousness, thank you for making these longer more thought put videos and for deciding this needed to be a series and not a one and done. I'll be watching, liking, and commenting each one to give the current algorithm a slap on the face because this is the content we need and that should be rewarded.
I don't think your audience will ever be able to truly convey how much we appreciate the ridiculous quality that MWM and all the other mini RUclipsrs bring to bear for us. Thanks y'all.
This build is genuinely looking humongous! I'd recommend to really go ham with detailing, plenty of nurglings playing on this big tri-daddy like he's a water park. Possibly sliding down the giant tongue when it comes to that? But yeah lots of mouths, weird diseased areas could make this an absolute smorgasbord of creativity! Nurgle montain here we come!!
I love this project already. Thank you so much. This inspired me to get back into the hobby! :D It's really so easy to get started, but sometimes we make our own problems by overthinking which materials to use for a new build :)
Nice tip I found out about expanding foam, it does not stick to bin bags. Allowing you to sort of mold it by hand while it dries. It does need enough air to dry and harden quickly and fully though. Maybe try building up the arm with this, to cut down on cutting it down 😋
As someone whos used Expanding Foam for big cosplay builds. Try not to leave it in direct heat. Even if you think its fully cured. Left my cosplay in the car, the next day it was hot and sunny. Rotting skin - chuck some pva or wood glue on a plate, chuck in the microwave for a few minutes and peel the dry layer off the top. The glue will dry in an uneven texture that looks really wrinkly, whilst still being flexible enough to stretch and manipulate as you see fit. Bonus is it already come with the glue applied so you dont have to worry. Used the same technique to make the mutated flesh for some oblitorators years ago
Rotting flesh material suggestion: Paper towel. Glued on, excess torn away, rinse repeat. Used this once to create lichen on a fake rock, and I bet painting it the colors of rotting flesh instead of shades of grey would work. Love the project, by the way.
Maybe a couple destroyed Tau vehicles on the base, as if he trampled over them. If He's gonna be squaring off against the Warlord, you might as well put some matching details on the base ; )
I don't usually comment, but you asked what to wrap the handle in, and I feel like tennis racket group could work really well, although I don't know what the prices are like for that when compared to string
jewelry chain as a sword handle wrap would be super unique and could look really cool, especially if you left dangling loops that could slip through it's fingers.

I can see a lot of Slimer from the ghostbusters in that model.
