    Say what? I've never heard of this Release to Layers tricks. I've wasted way too much time working back and forth between Illustrator and Photoshop, so thank you so much for sharing this trick.

    Nice tutorial. I appreciate the regular quality illustrator content. It's inspired me to try to get into Illustrator after a 4 year hiatus.

    Ive only watched a video so far. and im totally impressed by the detail you go into with step by step instruction. You dont fail to tell us every single keystroke. and you speak very clearly and really understandable. I wanna thank you so much for doing this. Ive been searching for a similar video that explains it well. You have a new subscriber. :)

    Great tutorial. To speed this process up you can create action presets for the layer copy and fill portion, and the gaussian blur/blend mode portion. Then the only time-consuming part is warping your layers.

    Thanks, Teela! Release to layers is great to know about along with how to create organic shadows. I didn't know I could alt drag a layer in PS to copy it. For anyone who may not know, just as an alternative way to create layer effects without seeing the layer in PS you can just set the fill to 0 for the layer.

    I am working on my portfolio to apply for an MFA in graphic design and needed some fresh pieces to add to the group to show at the least my abilities to learn. I have also seen these layered papers in amazing art galleries in Nashville and was so obsessed with them. I am stoked to be able to do this digitally, and for a reason that could change my life! Thank you so much! I have quietly watched your videos for a while now, and will continue to do so

    For that last effect, you'd save a quick sec by instead of setting it to white than hitting multiply, to just putting the fill at zero. Thanks for the video! Great tutorial!

    Hi Teela, since you're always very fruitful to the community and I always benefit from that, I thought I could share one little trick with regards to the beginning of the vid where you're drawing the hilly shapes, pressing v, selecting the new shape and sending it back. There's this command to switch to the "Draw Behind" mode where every object that you add to your work will be stacked below all the other layers instead of above (which is the default mode). You can press shift+D to switch modes, so that might save a little time during the process at the beginning :) thanks for this yet again ingenious tutorial! bye

    Great tutorial, thanks! Just a tip for anyone who uses filters a lot: cmd+F is a nice shortcut which applies the last filter used in Photoshop. It's limited because it applies the same parameters each time, but that makes it perfect for a project like this, where you know each layer will get the exact same filter with the same settings each time.

    Thanks for this cool tutorial! I have some tricks for you in gratitude :)
    You can use "alt+backspace" on pc or "option+delete" on mac for filling with foreground color. This would be a little bit convenient then "choose foreground color" then "flip foreground and background colors" and then "fill with background".
    In other way you can hold alt (option) when you pick color = "pick background color".

    Het Teela, great video. I wonder if you can use some kind of software or something to show the shortcuts instead of repeting them every time you use them, I guess that will be more easier to you. Just a suggestion.
    Regards from Argentina :)

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  8 лет назад

      Thanks for checking it out! Planning to do a few vids with an app that'll show every keystroke - hopefully that won't be too annoying, but it'll only show the mac keys - thanks for the feedback!

    • @lucasavalo
      @lucasavalo 8 лет назад

      1_It wont be annoying, if you already know the keys it easier to ignore it
      2_I use windows and it seems like the only difference are the keys "cmd" and "ctrl"
      Try it and ask the audience if they like it or its annoying :)
      Check my Behance portfolio :) www.behance.net/lucas-avalo

    Could this have effectively been done entirely in illustrator? If not, which steps in the workflow would be impeded most significantly?

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  7 лет назад

      you wouldn't be able to warp the shadows as well and as easily as you can in Photoshop - which is kind of the secret sauce to this technique :)

    • @ianrobinson5521
      @ianrobinson5521 7 лет назад +2

      Hey Teela, with Illustrator I used "Object -> Envelope Distort -> Make with mesh" (3 rows, 3 columns) to achieve a similar effect. Its a bit more tedious than it looks in Photoshop as you I think you have to direct select the anchor points when warping the object, but it works, and you can manipulate the warp with the bezier handles. I have never used Photoshop as I don't own it so I usually try to find a way in Illustrator.
      PS: Thanks so much for the great tutorials. I started with Illustrator a few months ago and was really struggling, I found your channel earlier this week and have improved so much already!
