Literally just what I was looking for! I'm trans guy interested in leather, but I don't know much about it. I'm thankful to live in an area that has a vibrant LGBT+ community as well as a wonderfully unique kink community, but I'm so interested in learning about the history and culture of leather for someone like me. Glad I found you :)
Hearing that makes me absolutely ecstatic! I hope to cover more about leather history in the future, but in the meantime I'm working on some Kink 101 content. Thanks for watching!
@@MaximLupin I've retured! With updates! If you so care to hear them. Went to my first ever leather convention (kind of... the virtual SouthEast Leather Fest's Mayhem) and I met a leatherboy and pup who had the most passion for bootblacking I have ever seen. I hadn't heard the term leatherboy before, which resonates with me a lot more than leatherman, I think. I've asked a very prominent leatherman in our local community for guidance, and gratefully he's agreed to be my teacher. I think your video, when I saw it a few months ago, was the catalyst for me as I realized leather is for trans people, too. I've come back to watch it again. Thank you
@@MaximLupin Very important life update!! I may… have won SouthEast Bootblack 2022 at SELF last year 😅 you inspired my journey, really! I am now a transmasc in their early 20s as a Leather Titleholder. I am very proud to represent my community 🤍🖤❤💙
Great video! First of all, I was unaware of the history of the leather (or "lever" as my closed captioning kept putting it) community. I will definitely click the link to learn more. Secondly, it continues to confound me that people in the LGB community want to exclude trans people for the exact same reasons we have been excluded. P.S. I follow you on twitter also. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Yeah, I need to clean up all the auto-captioning on my channel. 😅 Likewise, especially considering trans folks were on the front lines... but are also the first that go under the bus.
@@MaximLupinActually that was a joke. My closed captioning does that a lot. You should see it when I'm watching a video by a British person. Yeah, what bugs me is how not new this is. I remember discussions in the 90's about ENDA and how we (LGB) people threw trans people under the bus because the Repugs were clutching their pearls. As is that would make them like us. People kept screaming, "They're just doing this so they do have to pass a bill at all and not look like the bigots they are!".
I think it's important to not define stealth trans people as those who are NEVER recognised as trans, but more like those who try to do so and are largely not out. Because otherwise what does the word mean you know?
I always assumed a Woman who wants to become a man was attracted to Straight women and wanted to find a woman to date or marry? So now a woman changes her sex and becomes a male to date gay men? It's just so confusing to me to try and understand.
A person's sexuality isn't determined by their gender. Sexuality is who you're attracted to, gender is what you identify as. I'm a trans man who is bisexual. I am not transitioning to date men or women, I am transitioning bc it feels better for my body and mental health. Same for other trans men, they transition for their own sake, not to date certain genders.
as a lifelong trans man & aspiring leatherman (with no plans to get surgery!) who has been hesitant to officially enter the community due to being visibly trans, this video means a lot! for me, the appeal of leather is that my trans body isn't the focus; i love my body AND i love being transgender, but not having to worry about harassment for it (while still being able to participate in a sensual environment!) is a huge relief. leather has meant a lot to me, even if i haven't linked up in the community yet- but i think i might get out there soon!!!! this video has given me a lot of confidence, keep being awesome :)
This video is perfect, as a trans leatherman who looks very femme with a partner/dom who is also trans and looks very masculine it’s really incredible how differently we’re treated. He passes very easily at this point and was checking out our local leather bar at one point and guys were seriously checking him out (because he’s a good looking masc guy with lots of tattoos) and he was just sort of infuriated knowing how they would have treated him when he was less gender conforming and how they’d likely treat me.
I don't want to sound too soppy, but thank you for taking the time to make and research this! I've just started looking into trans masc history to further my happiness with my Otherness, discovering the beauty in being trans and creating a self outside of societal rules etc, as I've just moved away from many anti-trans people in my life who caused me to create a lot of internalised hate. It's super interesting to hear about erased pasts, and you absolutely slay with that hat!

It's a real irony isn't it? It's beyond frustrating.
This video was very informative and I learned a lot thank you so much
Thank you for an excellent history lesson
No problem, thanks for watching!
Wow, such a great piece of history!
Thank you so much this is all great Information!
I had no idea Pat Califia is trans. Wow.

Trans men are men trapped in the wrong body. Some of those men happen to be gay. This isn't rocket science...

Sexuality and gender aren’t the same. Ppl don’t transition to date, they transition to feel normal in their bodies.
Very informative video
