Salvatore Gravano, better known as Sammy the Bull, is one of the most famous and at the same time most controversial Mafia figures of the 1980s. Starting his criminal career in one of New York City's numerous teenage gangs, he eventually climbed the ranks to become the underboss of the Gambino mafia family. He owned dozens of clubs and restaurants, and his influence in the construction industry of the Big Apple was envied even by Donald Trump himself.
Gravano had every chance to eventually join the ranks of such gangsters as Frank Costello or Carlo Gambino, but instead, he ended up being mentioned next to the names of Buscetta and Valachi.
In late 1991, he made a deal with the government to become a witness and spilled the beans, helping put John Gotti, the boss of the Gambino family, behind bars for life with his testimony.
As a result, he not only escaped death for his betrayal, but also outlived his boss, becoming one of the first gangster video bloggers.
