Thank you so much for uploading this. I went to another one of their shows, post-breakup, and had never heard "The 1" before that night. I have wanted to relisten to these songs back-to-back, so good job on taking such a great video, and thanks again for posting.

Way better than Taylor’s version! Adam’s vocals are still amazing. Thank you for sharing!

I’d never heard of Taylor’s version until this. It’s a brilliantly written song-she is a really good songwriter. But does anybody know the story of how he started playing this? Did he just hear it and liked it, and thought it’d work well with “A Long December?” I’ve always been intrigued with how he picks songs to go before or stick into the middle of theirs. Is it a musical theme he hears? A lyrical theme? Like “Thunder Road” in the middle of “Rain King?” Or “Doris Day” and “Red Hill Mining Town” in “A Murder of One?” Sometimes he’d do it based on where they were playing like when he did a piano version of “Live Forever” right into “A Long December” when they were playing a leg in the U.K. Whatever his methods, he makes them work. And I’m glad he made this one work. “The 1” is a heartbreakingly beautiful song about regret or what could have been. I don’t think her version hits the same way or evokes the same emotion of the lyrics. But it may work great for her fan base. Anyway, thanks for recording and sharing this.
