Very small book but the quality of the painting tell so much about the dedication in the making of that little book. The coloring, the writing, the decorations.. everything was made nicely wow amazing

Beautiful; one of our great cultural shortfalls is a lack of rich and easily accessible documentation that really builds on our rich cultural heritage on illuminated manuscripts.

"They were books made for the average man and woman of the middle ages." So the average man and woman had their own illuminated manuscripts... are you sure about that?

Great stuff, but definitely none of which were made for the "average man, and woman", unless the definition of "average" used here specifically omits the masses who certainly couldn't afford any of these objects now, and/or then. One of these days, I'll become average myself.

Please excuse my ignorance but why would you touch these books without gloves on

Remember, these books are made out of parchment or vellum, derived from animal skins. These aren’t fragile paper, they are a much hardier surface and material.

Some institutions actually prefer clean, dry hands to gloves. The thinking is that gloves might distort or mask your sense of pressure, movement, grasp etc. and you might accidentally be too rough, simply because the gloves don't allow you to accurately feel the fragility of a page and so forth.

You should use gloves when you handle books that old.

Absolutely not! It's an old myth and they put the books at risk.
