5:44 this is so interesting seeing cate practicing her reacting in this shot where Therese tells Carol she can’t smoke on the sales floor. Even when no one is rehearsing, she is.
Seaorsei Ronan said that while making a movie with Cate, she went to buy something in a small market located in the town they were filming and there was Cate in front of the meat or veggies practicing her lines. Seaorsei said “I just looked at her silently in admiration”, Cate never knew she was being observed by her. Cate is a PRO, that’s why her talent.
When you see all the little details and consistency things that must be done and maintained for even the smallest of scenes, you realize why it takes so many people, takes and retakes, time, etc. to make a movie. I was the "producer" of several in-house commercials and training films for my job, even though my background was not in that area. I was tossed into it by my boss and learned on the spot. The hardest part was using the volunteer employees as talent, who had no clue what it took to make the production. They whined and complained about how much time it took, had no patience, would intentionally screw up or goof off, etc. Such drama queens they were.
Enjoyed watching the making of CAROL! I was a child back in 1954 and this brings back great memories of those wonderful days! The store scene was realistic! The cars and buses! Wow!
Todd Hynes was excellent. Phyllis Nage wrote a great screenplay. Cate Blanchet is the best actress and Rooney Mara is the best supporting actress. Todd and the movie should have been nominated.
does anyone know where this was shot? the buildings look as if they have been caught in a 1940s-50s time warp. such beautiful architecture. i can't imagine production green screened all the cinematography. they styling, composition, colour palette of this movie is marvellous. acting, first class. glad to see the ladies take out the oscars. imagine what cities of the western world would look like if they kept to their original architecture, instead many buildings were transformed into the uglies.
I never liked bloopers, mixing real life with movies is not attractive. I remember myself asking to my dad when I was a kid how was that the sound, and the color, and the people on the movies looked so alive, like wraped in a mysterious cloth that seemed all so better than in real life, and I remember him saying "that's the magic of the movies, hun".
Bodea Alex, do you really think any movie is shot ‘as screened’? ‘Behind the scenes’, if they are filmed, would all look similar. Just enjoy the end product, and see videos like this as an insight into the movie making process.
She rehearsing alone the scene when Therese (Rooney) explain to her she's not able to smoke inside the store at the begining of the movie. She rehearsing her astonishment, what she have to look at this moment (Therese), the movement she have to do, etc). There has nothing to do with what Todd says or the fact Rooney don't look at her
Would anybody interested in cinematography care to answer me a few questions? They're viewing stuff on monitors but it's shot on film, how's that work? I assumed you could only review in real time when it's shot digitally. At 5:02 they're holding nets/scrims either side of the camera, I'm wondering why? That's all, thanks!
All men except for Mara and Blanchett... I wonder how it must be having to play a love story between two women with all of these men directing and watching you.
Hmmm..interesting. I felt maybe Cate was rehearsing the scene of realizing she's not able to smoke inside the store. It's like she's mentally rehearsing at first but then the second part looks like she was frustrated that Rooney was talking to the guy and wasn't focused on rehearsing maybe? Cate is such a beautiful perfectionist that's so involved with her work!! Love her
Rooney Mara is so mysterious even in behind the scenes.
Ada Wong I'm not sure if she's autistic. Mysterious yes.
You know my last name is Mara too and aunt is called Therese lol
Flung out of space
Can we just appreciate those extra people that appear in each scene to make it totally perfect?

@@horaciocapanelli-soto4710 I love that so much. Hanna is a great movie too!
@@horaciocapanelli-soto4710 saoirse ronan? how tf did you spell her name 💀
5:43 While Todd is explaining something to the crew, Cate is rehearsing her part where Therese tells her she can't smoke inside the building.
I just noticed that too! I love that scene.
Cates eye roll @ 5:54 im living for it 😍

My god i want to see all the behind the scenes footage

Cate❤️. Rooney is the most lucky girl in the world

Very nice comment and description tobthe development of the Film and the scences.❤🎉❤
Très grand film
Rooney doesn’t even say anything behind the scenes
Amazing film!

4:14 YES
Filme excelente!!
I wish that they would do a Prequel about Carol & Abby. Who would you like to see play them?
When filmed from "behind the scenes" angle, great movies look like nonsense crap.

Can you explain for me what Carol was saying at 6:01?
She rehearsing alone the scene when Therese (Rooney) explain to her she's not able to smoke inside the store at the begining of the movie. Oh I see! Thanks so much !
you're welcome !

At 54 seconds, what is Todd Haynes looking through and why?
Wrk Hrse probably a screen that shows what the camera's capturing at the moment and adjusting rooney's position in the shot
5:39
Being the boom mic guy looks painful. rotator cuff being worn down.
It kinda weirds me out, how the set is full of old white men, when it’s literally a movie about two women falling in love.
Tops like with Rooney Mara
All men except for Mara and Blanchett... I wonder how it must be having to play a love story between two women with all of these men directing and watching you.
+kfdksjf I think Cate is angry with Rooney because in the minute 5:53 to 6:15. I think Cate wants practice but Rooney is in other world.
Hmmm..interesting. I felt maybe Cate was rehearsing the scene of realizing she's not able to smoke inside the store. not at all , she is just rehearsing at mind , she looks at Rooney just as reference
ббб
Cate seems annoying at 6:10
I can’t imagine working that close to Cate! She’s absolutely amazing in everything she does!
The world would definitely go gay for her!
