  • The National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS) is the first and only South African national longitudinal (panel) study and has been following the same group of individuals since it was first implemented in 2008.
    It provides unique insights into the livelihoods of South Africans over time. The study aims to facilitate evidence-based policy-making and contribute to the monitoring of policy implementation.
    NIDS is an initiative of the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) implemented by the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
