Bought this album in 2000 around the time i started smoking weed, the song always meant something to me but i recently quit and just remembered this track, just gave me goosebumps like crazy after all this time, what a lyrically genius track, Thanks Mike.
What a great album. I remember the singles from the time but I've not listened to it all the way through until just now. It's so much his own, so UK, and so tied into what was going on in both US and UK music before that. It's brilliant.
I was the same way, but Mike Skinner is a lyrical legend up there with the likes of most real hip hop legends. They just never got the respect because they were labeled as “alternative” or “indie”.
Crazy to think, how young Mike was when he wrote this. I seen friends go to Smack & everytime they were heavy weed smokers. I smoke a lot myself when younger but always was in CBD heavy hash. It never happened to me the smack thing though been though enough low points when being numb seemed better than picking myself up again, but it was line I was never going to cross plus I am lucky enough to have a girlfriend/now fiancé& family who care enough to help overcome set backs. It’s so hard to get them out of it with getting dragged in, to the point as I am older I have just let them know I am there for them when they clean up or attempt it. I hope you both do until then try to stay positive.
Came out too early in history, and went unnoticed! Such a shame cuz this is genius
