Hi Pastor Ntxoov Lis Yaj . I am new to your channel and I really enjoy watching your videos so far. This is also a great video and message. Praise God.
However, I do have a concern. I once heard from another pastor that we shouldn’t use the words zaj and dab. They are words that represent a dragon (Satan) and his demons.
God’s word is perfect, true and beautiful but it seems that we use these two words to start off and introduce God’s word many times; it sounds really wrong. For example, “Cia peb los kawm txog zaj dabneeg….. or zaj nkauj qhuas Vajtswv or the word dabtsi.”
I understand these are old traditional Hmong words but we as Christ followers, do you think we should discontinue using these words and use them only for what their actual meanings are, dragon and demons?
Instead, should we find something more appropriate to use when speaking of God’s word?
I just wanted to hear your thoughts.
Kathy, some people take those words way too literally. It does not mean those things. When we say "dabneeg" we never meant "demon story" or the "devil's story." "Dabneeg" as a word from the old Hmong language means "story." Those people have some theological beliefs that cause them to be over concern about those terms. I do not see those terms as wrong or "of the devil" at all. It's how our traditional Hmong language has always been.
You may be right Pastor. Although, I do wish that the Hmong language wouldn’t be so limited in their word to express themselves and to cover most things on earth, I also understand a little bit about our Hmong background.
The extermination of our race by the Chinese did a lot of damage to our people and educational background.
